Is it possible that The Dark Man or whatever it is that is occupying Locke's body lured Claire away from the group using the image of Christian to persuade her into following him. Perhaps Dark Man was trapped in the cabin due to the ash ring around it but still held some power to influence Smokey. I am sure we will be revisiting the night Claire vanished in some capacity next season and I am sure it will turn out to be Claire who broke the Ash ring around the cabin through Smokey's manipulation as Christian. Once the ring was broken, Dark Man was permanently freed from his bonds and what happened to Claire after that is anyone's guess?
Just one problem with this theory, something doesn't sit right with Christian being a bad guy. The name, Christian Shepard, has always implied to me that he was on the right side and would act as a source of help and hope for the Losties. He even pointed out that it was John who should have turned the wheel in the first place not Ben. Perhaps Christian was trying to remove John from the island, knowing what would happen if John stayed and who would take control of him. But then we have him telling Sun and Frank to wait for John Locke to arrive after John has died. Maybe Christian has been resurrected but Smokey can also take his form, leading to a complicated which Christian is which situation developing? Hmmm. All so confusing. Seriously starting to wonder if it is just being made up as they go along. Any ideas and thoughts on all these contradictions in plot. Really hoping season six ties all the issues up. 17 episodes seems far too few now with so much going on and unreso! lved.
