There is a war brewing in the land of Lost.
There are many sides.
Jacob’s side.—The only two people who are, for sure, on Jacob’s side are Richard because of the deference he has shown with statements like “I don’t take orders from them (Charles and Ellie),” and John Locke because we know Jacob asked him for help. I also want to informally put the smoke monster in this camp because Richard and John seem to be on its good side somehow.
Now, as much as I love Locke (just a beautifully crafted character), we have been shown many times that he is easily manipulated. Based on this fact I can’t be sure that doing what Jacob says is the path to follow.
Also, the fact that no matter how well mannered Richard Alpert has been, the man still demands bodies, and readily undercuts the authority of the peoples he is aligned with.
Claire and Jack’s Dad.-- I am completely unconvinced, but I gotta think that Jack’s Dad and Claire will end up being good guys weather alive or dead.
Jack’s Dad has shown too much heart, and his son is our protagonist. Currently I think he is simply playing Darth Vader to Jack’s Luke.
Claire has never seemed anything but honest and instinctual, not bad qualities, and she is also mother to Aaron, a character I believe to be of substantial importance the story.
Then there are the Losties and the 316ers, the Dharma folk, Widmore, Eloise, and many more.
Back to the War.
Remember the scene where Kate walks in on phantasm Claire over the bed of Aaron? She tells Kate that she better not bring him back. The “him” we of course take to mean Aaron.
But what if she meant John Locke? What if she thought it was a given that Kate bring back her child? Claire based on this premise would be, assumedly with Jack’s Dad, against Widmore because she knows Aaron is supposed to be a big deal, raised by her on the island in the future.
Widmore really wants John Locke back on the island so he can help Widmore’s preferred side to win the war.
John Locke though, never seems to properly do the things he is supposed to do. While Jack always gets in the way of the island when he tries to do right, so does John as he tries in his own way. Man of science, man of faith same result. Why?
Because something is working against them.
Jack wanted to leave the island.
John wants to save the island from something because he knows Jacob asked him for help.
Now, I’m not trying to say Jacob is the island, or the smoke monster, but he may be the manifestation of many of the unusual properties we see on the show.
We can say with probability that Smokey’s home base is probably the temple, so he at least would be a long-term occupant of the island.
Widmore said he wanted John Locke to help him make sure the right side won the War. What if he meant he wanted John Locke to be the cause for loss of the side that loses the War with Widmore’s group being on the winning side. He never said he and John were on the same side. Please, correct me if I’m wrong.
So, if John Locke kept failing the test back in his youth, Charles Widmore would know this because at the time he was working with Richard. Charles would know that John Locke is an imperfect savior, and so would want to place Locke as his eventual adversary, knowing he has some fatal flaw. Follow?
I think that Aaron will somehow be the ideal doer of whatever it is that eventually needs to be done in the future. As a matter of fact, I am pretty sure we have already been to the future.
Didn’t we see a severely dilapidated Orchid station in one of our many time-flashes?
So in the end this would mean that the good side is Jack’s dad and Claire’s people including Aaron (and the rest of the 815ers) Richard Alpert is simply mistaken about John Locke, led to believe so by Charles Widmore.
Final Thought?
So what’s the War about? Theory by Man Thinking
