I think it is safe to say that Widmore is the true Villain(along with Ms.Hawking) and Ben and Richard are the Good guys(I have always thought this from their introduction).
Reason why...1.Charles violent/mean streaks to kill as a solution.
2.Ms.Hawking is pushy,demanding,rude,and secretive.
3.Charles care free attitude about children dying(12yr
-old Ben,baby Alex and her Mother),explains a lot
about him and Penny's relationship.
4.I think Faraday knows this and is just caught up with
the whole "Mother says" scenario.
...But I'm getting off track here....I think Charles kinda got his way just a little bit and I will tell you why?
After watching "Dead is Dead", I came to realize that maybe when Charles sent the Mercs to the Island to get Ben,that maybe Widmore told Keamy that if he came across Rousseau the crazy French lady or Ben's daughter Alex-to kill them(I think Karl was just the wrong time,wrong place thing..it happens).I say that Charles did this to spite Ben for disobeying his orders from back in 88/89 by saving Daniel and Alex.Ben really made Charles look week that day.Charles did this as a "Gotcha back!" thing to Ben.
Charles wanted Alex and Daniel dead back in 1988/89,and now that he has found the island again(you know he has,he's lying about not knowing!),I would'nt put it past Him that he did not include Frechy and Alex on his Widmore Revenge World tour. Theory by Ralph
