Ok, this is a collection of thoughts to theorise Smokey...
On other shows and movies, a lot of dead people cannot move on until certain 'wrongs' have been righted. E.g. The Crow.
Now, bear with me, but people keep saying that Smokey IS someone we know. I feel the writers have already answered this and shown us this is not true.
We have been shown (and I did not expect them to teach us so much about smokey at this point in the show) it judges people. We can go from the information we have...
Eko. He was living a lie and un-repentant for Yemi's death. Was the view of Yemi ACTUALLY Yemi, or his spirit, not trancending until he found out what he needed to know? Hmmmm.
Ben. He was judged. Smokey brought forward Alex, but could her spirit be there as she needed to hear the sorry from Ben to be at peace and move on?
Locke. He was judged but didn't have anyone he had wronged in death (although this could was before he had killed a lot of people to save the island). I would say that the only person Locke would carry remorse and/or guilt for would be Boone. I feel though, that as Smokey gave Ben direction to follow Locke no matter what, that Locke has done nothing bad in the islands eyes.
This would somehow mean that Smokey just uses the energy of the deceased persons spirit not being able to transcend to judge them. This gives smokey this depth to understand what the judged really needs. In return the soul, so to speak, is free as it has its answer.
Not a theory just a thought. Discuss Smokey here as I want to put a rest to all these comments in other theories about WHO Smokey is as it is not relevant yet!! Theory by Jess
