I am currently watching the episode, "Walkabout." I just watched Locke's first interaction with the smoke monster and had the following ideas in relation to "Dead is Dead." Let's think about who we have seen the monster live and who the monster has tried to take. The monster has tried to take John Locke and was successful at taking the french man. Ben was also allowed to live after his judgment. It seems that those with no sins and those that can truly repent are allowed to be on the island and it seems those that are taken by the monster are going through a process that seems to be related to Richard taking Ben to the temple. Ben lost his innocence according to Richard after becoming one of the Others. Maybe the monster is able to decide who gets to be with the Others as well. Also, Jacob's lists and the monster must be connected. I think the show offered a big clue on what the smoke monster does when i! t is not judging or killing people it is only taken the ones chosen by the island. Theory by Nick Moss
