Jeri’s Lost Theory
I like everyone I think have 2 theories regarding our time traveling questions. The first is that you can change the past and the second is you can’t. Let me begin with the first one…
My first theory is that in the end it will be revealed that you CAN change the past…but you have to find the beginning of “the loop” to do it. (This is like the movie “The Butterfly Effect”. I will post the summary of this movie at the end of my theory for those who are not familiar with it.) I read a theory that said that the WTF moment will be when it is revealed that the losties can change things…I read it on here somewhere. I totally agree with that theory. I would like to expand on that by saying I think it will be revealed that the only way to “change” or “fix” things is quite simple- DON’T GET ON FLIGHT 815. This applies to Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sawyer, Claire, Jin, Sun, Sayid , Michael, Walt, Boone, Shannon, Charlie, and Locke. I will try to break it down easily- if our losties don’t get on the plane…
1. If they don’t crash, they don’t end up on the island.
2. If they are not on the island, they can’t meet Ben therefore cannot travel back to 1977.
3. If they are never in 1977, Sayid never shot little Ben, he didn’t get taken to others and at age 30 purge all of Dharma. The reason why little Ben is the way he is is because of the temple NOT because of his father, which is what we thought all along. When Ben did kill his father they were actually having a nice moment but Ben didn’t care and gassed him anyways. If Ben grows up like a normal child in Dharma land he would never become leader of the others and would never have had any reason to bring Juliet to the island at all. Richard would have been the leader of the others NOT BEN. Ben would have just been a Dharma dude plain and simple. Jacob would have been Richard’s problem not Ben’s. Ben never would have had to turn the wheel to move the island in the first place.
4. If Claire had not been on the plane she would not have given birth to Aaron on the island and the result would be that Kate would not have raised him as her own. The psychic said “no one else can raise him”. Now whether or not Claire would have given him up for adoption if 815 had not crashed is another question… but I say no. So that would mean that only Claire was raising him…as it was supposed to be.
5. If Jack had not been on the plane he would not have called the freighter which brought the freighter people to the island which includes Charlotte, Daniel and Miles. Daniel and Miles would not have been transported back to 1977 and Charlotte would not have died from the flashes. I think that something that Daniel does will have caused the incident so if he isn’t there he can’t cause it.
6. If Hurley had not been on the plane he would not have ended up in 1977 with the others and obviously uses the numbers for something regarding the hatch.
7. If Charlie had never been on the plane he would not have swam down the looking glass station and turned off the signal which led to Jack being able to call the freighter for rescue and also caused Charlie to drown. Also Penny received the signal from this so she would have never found Desmond. Desmond would however still be in the Swan station believing that him and Kelvin were saving the world by pushing a button every 108 minutes.
8. If our losties were never there no one would have ever blown off the Swan station and discovered Desmond which is what Locke did do. Which bring me to Locke. If he was never on the plane he never turned the wheel that got him off the island to contact all of the losties that eventually met at the church with Ms. Hawking, never got strangled by Ben and never got resurrected when he returned to the island.
9. If Sawyer had never been on the plane he would have never been thrown back to 1977 where he met Horace and Amy and later became head of Dharma Security.
10. If Jin was never on the plane he would not have been blown up by the freighter and be presumed “dead” and then he was never transported to 1977 and worked for Dharma etc…Whether or not Sun would have left him is a question I can’t begin to answer but I’ll say she would have stayed with him regardless.
11. With Michael and Walt…Walt would not have got kidnapped and Michael and him would not have had a terrible return to the outside world and Michael would not have died leaving Walt an orphan.
12. If Boone hadn’t been on the plane he never would have discovered the hatch with Locke and end up dying.
13. Shannon would still be alive if she wasn’t on the plane.
14. Charlie would still be alive.
15. Ji-yeon would have never been born because Sun got pregnant on the island.
16. In conclusion I think you have to find the right moment to change the past which is not getting on flight 815 at all.
To sum up the timeline for our losties is like this
Flight 815 crashes in 2004. They have been on the island for 108 days before they are rescued.
They return to the island in 2007/2008.
They end up in 1977.
They will somehow return to present time.
So even though 1977 is before 2004 to our losties it comes after. So if they avoid getting on the plane all this never would have happened.
Here is the summary from wikipedia for those who might find it interesting.
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_butterfly_effect) Evan Treborn (Ashton Kutcher), who suffered severe traumas as a boy (Logan Lerman) and a teenager (John Patrick Amedori), blacks out frequently, often at moments of high stress. While searching for an answer to heal his emotional wounds, he finds that when he reads from his adolescent journals, he travels back in time, and is able to essentially "redo" parts of his past, thereby causing the blackouts he experienced as a child. There are consequences to his choices, however, that he then propagates back to the present: his alternate futures vary from frat boy to prisoner to amputee. His efforts are driven by the desire to undo the most traumatic events of his childhood which coincide with his blackouts, including saving his childhood sweetheart Kayleigh (Amy Smart), from being abused by her father.
The actions he takes, and those he enables others to take during his blackouts change the timeline whereupon he wakes up in his new future. As he continues to do this, he realizes that even though his intentions are good, the actions he takes have unintended consequences. Moreover, the assimilation of dozens of years' worth of new memories from the various alternate timelines he has caused are causing brain damage. Ultimately he decides that his attempts to alter the past end up severely harming those he cares about. He travels back in time once more to the first day he met Kayleigh and warns her to stay away from him, going so far as to threaten her. He succeeds in undoing his childhood as he knew it. The film ends eight years in the future with a well-dressed Evan leaving an office building and passing Kayleigh on the street, Kayleigh turns around while Evan is still walking, he fails to notice her and carries on walking. Kayleigh carries on walking to her planned destinat! ion upset. Evan turns around and sees Kayleigh from behind, but does nothing. Theory by Jeri Nelson
