Hello,
have you heard of a Greek island named DELOS. Well, than it´s about time...
The Island´s use was to worship Apollon (yes, the God).
In LOST there are many references to Apollon:
-Apollon Bars
-All of the Dharma Stations, because:
1. Apollon´s Island Delos was hovering above the water and !swans! surrounded it.
2. Apollon had healing powers. (The medical station)
3. Apollon was a God of fertility (Orchid)
4. Apollon was a superb hunter (Arrow)
5. Apollon was the God of sun and fire (the Flame-Station)
6. The Mirror-Station is the only reference I didn´t get, sorry.
Anyway, Delos was not only hovering above water, it had a nearby second Island. And there were certain rules:
In order to keep the island sacred, no one could die or give birth on Delos. All births and deaths should happen on the nearby island. Interesting, that the Dharma-folk build the Staff on the nearby island, isn´t it.
This is just the start of my theory. I think, that every character on Lost is a reincarnation of some God, since they crashed.
I can´t give you every reference, but i.e. Charlie was musician (could be Orpheus).
Jack has healing powers. He saved that woman´s spine and Ben´s spinetumor. He could be Aesculab.
Sayid is born to kill, as Ben said. He could be Ares. God of War.
Desmond has a boat and a girl named Penelope (the shortform Penny is to blur this fact). He could be Odysseus.
Remember Mikhail Bakunin: He is the cyclops, Odysseus has to kill.
Lost is full of this references. And you can tell me I´m a fool, but this isn´t just coincidence, because the sheer amount of links to Gods and myths is mindblowing.
You will also tell me: "Wait! there are epytian hyroglyphics on the temple-wall." And I say: "Yes."
Because, there are more than just Greek mythics playing their part.
Remember the Hurley-bird. A huge, parrot-like, colourful bird. This is a Aztec God (I forgot the name). Hurley is mexican.
Richard Alpert is very likely an Egyptian God, not just because of his eyeliner :-). His initials mean RA. Egypt-God of the sun.
Widmore seems quite Zeus-like, I don´t know.
But I think he shagged around all over the world. Creating many babies with "normal/mortal" women. And he is old enough to be the father of all of our losties.
The smokemonster is definetely Cerberus, guard of the underworld
I hope you don´t think I´m dumb or so.....this is no complete answer of all the questions, but maybe it helped you.
