Hello everyone, this is my first theory ever posted so I hope you like it. It is kind of long but please stick with me.
Ever since the episode "Jughead" and Daniel's mention of burying the bomb under concrete, there have been tons of theories regarding Jugheads location. Many of these believe that it is buried underneath thick concrete we all remember from the hatch. The problem is it seems as if the concrete was placed after the Swan was built not 20 years before. I do believe that Jughead is within the concrete of the Swan, but I don't believe it has been there since the 1950's. Let me explain.
Ever since I saw last nights episode, and the expression on Hurley's face as he is watching the hatch , that will in 27 years bring the survivors crashing to the island, being built got me thinking. After all of the bad things that have happened since coming to this island, if you were in the past wouldn't you do everything in your power to stop the whole thing from ever happening? I believe that our fellow losties at least a couple of them will try and change the past.
We know that Whatever happened, Happened but people like Hurley don't want to believe this. He completely believes the past can be changed and he will try and do this. I can see him gathering everyone of our Losties and telling them about the hatch being built and tries to think of a way to destroy it before it is even finished being built, thus preventing the Oceanic plane from ever crashing on the island. The question is what could they get their hands on big enough to destroy the hatch, Jughead anybody.
I believe that Hurley will talk some of the losties into trying to destroy the hatch and I think Sawyer will be one of them. Hurley will wonder what they could use and Sawyer then has an epiphany, the bomb. I can see it in the finale, Hurley and Sawyer and whomever else, walking through the jungle towards the others, running across Richard. They tell him about the hatch being built in the others territory underground, and Richard realizes that they are trying to control some of the Islands many properties and agrees to help.
So now they get the bomb very carefully from wherever it was stored by the others. It has dissipated a lot of its energy so wont destroy the island but will destroy the hatch. The bomb is then carefully brought to the Swan station. I believe someone we all love will sacrifice him or her self to detonate this bomb. It is placed down the hatch and someone is lowered in to detonate it. They probably do this at night so there isn't many Dharma folks around, those that are are taken out. Once everything is in place everyone except the sacrificial man leaves for safety. Slowly it starts to get light as the sun rises and we see some Dharma people including Pierre Chang riding in a van towards the Swan. When all of a sudden boom, the bomb goes off. The van then stops, Chang gets out and another boom as the electromagnetic pulse is released causing some of the flying shrapnel to be pulled back towards the Swan cutting Chang's arm off, the sky then turns Purple and
LOST. The first half of the finale ends. This is the Incident.
The Jughead doesn't completely destroy the hatch though. it does expose the electromagnetic energy. Possibly causing this blinding purple light to go off every 108 minutes. The Dharma then realizes that they need to do something to stop this, thus they fill in this hole with concrete and create the button to release the energy build up. The reason be that no matter what type of material they could use to fill this hole, if the energy built up it would just rip it apart. It is like shaking a soda. Sitting still the CO2 in the can is suppressed and safe when shook it builds pressure, when you pop the top it explodes. Unless you ease the pressure like tapping the sides of the can or in this case pushing the button, it will explode again.
Thus just like Jack not doing surgery on little Ben, by whomever trying to blow up the hatch, they caused the electromagnetism to be exposed leading to the creation of the button, consequently the bringing down of the Oceanic Plane 27 years later.
I could be completely right, partially right or completely wrong, we wont know for a few weeks. I just thought that this was a pretty cool idea that makes sense to me. Give me your thoughts if you like or your criticism. I just want to thank you all for reading.
PS: I don't think that if this happens that Chang knew that it was a bomb that caused this he may just believe it was caused by some of there drilling and the energy just finally broke through. He then knew that he probably wont be able to control it and decides to make this button to at least manage it until they come up with a better solution. But it didn't help they were killed off before finding a solution.
PSS: I know it has been said that the Others didn't know about the hatch, and I don't believe the others did but I believe Richard did. If latter they found out about it after the purge, they probably just let the people in there stay there and push the button not wanting the energy to be released again. Why put one of your own men down there when you got two people willing to stay there for good believing they are saving the world.
