I have been pondering this question since "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham", and I feel now as if I have a solid theory.
Anyway, I'll start with Locke and Ben's near-suicide and eventual murder scene.
What we see clearly:
1. Ben absolutely does NOT want John to kill himself.
2. Ben convinces Locke out of it, but then kills him upon hearing the name "Eloise Hawking".
3. Ben needed information, and that information was obviously that name.
The question is, we all know Ben pretty well at this point. He could have easily talked him INTO it AND gotten the name out of him ( he would have barely had to lift a finger), Why didnt he just do that???
The producers are clearly showing us that the difference between dying by your own hands, or by anothers, MEANS something important.
This obviously cannot be ignored.
Onto how Christian fits into this....
After seeing Namaste, I've finally decided that Christian is NOT Christian. The real Jacks father is either really dead and gone, or sealed away somewhere/somehow. I think it is increasingly obvious that something sinister is going on with him (i noticed alot of black smoke around him that episode, though some people say it was much to do about nothing), also, something about his eyes do not seem right.
I think the reason for this is that his body was brought back to the island (yes I think he was on the island before Jack was ever even on the original plane crash), after he had killed himself.
Think about it. We dont know much about his death, but we certainly know what was going on in his life before it. He was an alcoholic, he either killed or almost killed a patient while drunk (cant remember which, but it doesnt matter), and was then turned in by his own son and stripped of his liscense. He goes on a crazy bender and at the end of it tries to visit his long lost daughter. Sounds like he was about to off himself to me.
So....I think there is something else that has taken up the form of Christian. I cant wait to find out more about the recurring need for bodies that people have on the island. Thats when we will really find out I think.
Another question to ask is why Ben said to John "I'll miss you John, I Really will".
This one line pisses me off to no other, because it could flip this ENTIRE theory the other way around!! Thats what Im counting on comments for.
What if Christian DIDNT commit suicide but was SUPPOSED to and ended up like that? That would make Christian the good guy and Ben the bad guy!
The only reason I am choosing my lengthier version is that it all seems to be lining up for Ben becoming friends with the losties as a kid (minus Saiid). Which makes me think he really has been acting in their best interests. But anyway, what do you guys think? Theory by AbsoluteTruth
