Thus far, we have seen Daniel Faraday be extremely insistent on the idea that the timeline is set in stone, and cannot be altered.
And then the love of his life died, and, I believe, he immediately began trying to figure out how to change the timeline.
We have seen him working around The Orchid, no doubt to study it and the time-controlling energy, in Because You Left. We know that he and Pierre Chang will attempt to contact the future, insisting that somebody act to do certain events... which seems odd considering by Daniel's original hypothesis, the same thing would always happen whether he acted on it or not.
Consider that the failsafe key in the Swan has a similar effect as the Frozen Wheel. I believe they are both connected to that pocket of energy. Is it possible that Daniel, either with Radzinsky or against Radzinsky's wishes, either way, is responsible for the Swan protocol, particularly the Failsafe.
Now, with that in mind, but if Daniel realized that the reason Desmond Hume is unbound to Fate is BECAUSE HE TURNED THE FAILSAFE KEY.
Is it possible that Daniel becomes aware of the cycle of events, this 'prison' called fate, through his efforts to somehow save Charlotte. Even if he is unable to save her, he instead puts his research to good use by creating a method to free people from fate, with Desmond being the first successful subject.
Will Daniel Faraday be responsible for figuring out how to overcome Fate, and help others follow in Desmond's footsteps of freedom, ultimately leading to a Series Finale where our lostaways finally end this timeless conflict? Theory by Blinus
