In my two previous posts on the alternate time line theory or the changed time theory I have shown that it is absolutely necessary that a new timeline now exists for Frank and Sun in the alternate 2008. In this theory post I will bring forth some new evidence and will refute some erroneous theories that have been posted since Namaste aired.
The Barracks shown in Namaste is New Otherville that we have been seeing throughout the show. The processing station seen by Frank and Sun is also the same processing station used to process the losties into their new jobs in Dharma. When you watch the scene where Jack and then Kate are being processed, if you look on the far wall you can see the pictures of the recruit classes clearly on the wall. This is the same room with the same signage where Christian shows Sun the picture of the '77 recruiting class of the DI. There was a continuity error though. Sawyer claims that there are multiple recruiting classes that arrive throughout the year when he says that another sub load of recruits are coming in 6 months. This would make it seem like there would need to be more pictures per year than Christian indicated when he was counting through the pictures 1 per year. Anyway, the pictures of the Dharma classes are in the same barracks building where Frank and Sun appear late! r. This is the same building with the pool table where in 2004 Kate was being held by the others and where Juliet flipped Kate like a ragdoll.
100% of the "nothing has changed" theory rests on this barracks phenomena. So far I have heard the most bizarre things concerning the obvious fact that the barracks are changed...
"Maybe these are a second set of barracks"
"Maybe things have really fallen apart after three years"
C'mon. We are supposed to believe either a) there were a group of buildings right next to the dock (the dock is also massively dilapidated and changed compared to when Lock blew up the sub) that the Others never made use of, never cleaned up, and never noticed. or b) that in three years of non-use, the barracks started to drop signs that were never there during the others tenure, grew Dharma logos on all the doors, and sprouted Dharma pictures on the walls that the others never noticed before. Also, trees grew up in the yards and obviously some type of battle has taken place.
Or, we can accept what is obvious and thus far proven. When Frank and Sun arrive at the Barracks something has happened that has changed time. The Others never took over the Barracks after Dharma wasn't there any more (for whatever reason, probably the incident or war).
Ride Captain Ride
When Jack is getting out of the Dharma van at the processing station the song Ride Captain Ride by Blood, Sweat & Tears is playing. When the camera zooms in on Jack and Sawyer the lyrics are:
"Ride, captain ride, upon your mystery ship,
On your way, to a world, that OTHERS might have missed."
In this episode we are clearly seeing a world that the others might have missed.
The Runway
As I mentioned earlier in my second theory post, the runway is fundamentally different than when Kate and Sawyer were working on it. There are no buildings and the runway is short... too short to land full-sized airliner on safely (thus the dead co-pilot). In the alternate future, the others have never taken over the 2nd island and the Dharma station there, and they have never started to extend and build up the runway. Be clear here, there are NO buildings or other structures directly around the air field when Lapidus lands 316. There are evidently buildings and shelters there when Kate and Sawyer are helping to extend the runway.
Ok, one of the other things I need to deal with. Here is something some folks keep saying...
"Whatever happened, happened... but differently" Wha?
"Whatever happened, happened... but with slight changes"
That is like saying, "My girlfriend is kind of pregnant". either whatever happened, happened, or it did not happen. If it happened completely differently, then it didn't happen. Let's not play political word games just to maintain a failed theory. If Charlie is killed in the jungle with an arrow through his throat, or if he drowns in the ocean trying to save Claire, that is fundamentally different than if he dies basically by suicide after he contacts Penny and warns Desmond thereby saving the Losties. If something fundamental changes everything else, you have lost the right to say "whatever happened, happened", because the truth is that Whatever happened, DIDN'T happen, or Whatever didn't happen, happened. The rest is just word games.
Either whatever happened, happened, and it cannot be changed - or time has been changed. And if time is changed in small things, which fundamentally changed bigger things, then we are in a different timeline and whatever happened, didn't happen.
But, that is just what I think,
