For a long time I have thought that 3 of the original losties are essential to the Island's mythology - many others are connected but three are central to the 'end game', and of course Desmond, Faraday and Ben will have a lot to do with it, but they weren't originals...
You do not have to be Sherlock Holmes to work out that Jack and Locke are two of those characters - in fact if you think otherwise you are probably watching a different show to the rest of us.
I personally have always suspected that Hurley has a great role to play in the Island's purposes for the Losties. His connection to the numbers and also his crazy luck (witnessed in basketball, hoops, risk, pingpong) make his role in the future of the Island one to watch...
So as we are currently all guessing who Amy's baby might be I am going to suggest Mr.Hugo Reyes. How he ends up with Reyes' is anyone's guess but
Evidence? Well there's not much more than the circumstantial...
We know the baby was born in 1977, as was Hurley
We know that Amy and Horace both have very curly hair, as does Hurley (I think the 'curl' in Horace's hair was emphasised this episode but I could be imagining it!!)
We know that Amy has a 'latino' look about her
We know that David Reyes left his son when he was young (something he would be more likely to do if he wasn't his in the first place)
We know that Carmen Reyes did not show any hint of surprise when Hurley told her about the Island and 'The Lie' (perhaps the lie in the title is Carmen and David's lie rather than Hurley's)
Some are now saying that if John is the 'Spirit' and Jack is the 'Head' then we are now seeing Sawyer becoming the 'Heart' of the show.... although I like this I think that from the very start Hurley has been the 'Heart' of the show.
I also think he will be its greatest hero - the only character who did not need a 'tabula rasa' and the most likely character to do the right thing for 'the greater good'.
.... and my predictions of his future heroism will hold more water if we find out that Hurley was actually born on the island... Theory by gatesy
