The guitar Hurley carried with him on flight 316 is Charlie's actual guitar. And Hurley knew to be on the flight because Charlie told him.
Charlie appeared to Hurley sometime after he got sprung from jail. And told him everything he needs to know. He also knew about the the flight needing as many original circumstances as possible.
And so he gave Hurley his guitar. But Hurley is the only one who can see it.
How do I know this? Simple- no one asked him to remove the guitar from the empty seat it was occupying. And the guitar wouldn't help him float. And don't you think someone would have asked him 'why does he have a guitar'?
So how is this a theory? Simple.
Charlie coming to visit Hurley was real- Charlie was time-flashing without knowing he was time flashing. Hurley is another exception to the rule, just like Desmond, only he gets the fallen to time flash without knowing that they are.
This could be how a musician programs the Looking Glass station. Charlie time flashes and tells Hurley that it was programmed with 'Good Vibrations'.
Over the next season and a half, we will see more and more of the fallen time-flashing to visit Hurley with warnings and or advice. Like Ana-Lucia when he was on the run.
