When ever any new inhabetents comes to the Island the OTHERS must infiltrate them, which includes killing some of them, and then joining some of them and thus becoming the group they have infiltrated.
In the 50's the OTHERS become the soldiers
In the 70's The Others (as the soldiers) become Dharma (hence the hostiles)
In 2004 The Others (as Dharma) become the 815-ers
This is WHY cindy and the kids are not traveling with them, they are OTHERS now.
They HAVE to do this so they do not get LOST in time.
Latin Theory:
When the first bible was writen is was in Greek and another launguage....but Jerome was the first to translate it to Latin which became known as the Volgate Bible, the Bible used by Cathlics for the their first 1300 yrs.
Latin is considered ’ a dead language’ and besides, phoenician, is where all modern langauges come from.
I think they use this launguage as a constant, because Latin NEVER CHANGES, it is DEAD!
If it turns out The DeaD langauge does keep the Others in time with the Island because it can not Change, then...

I may be right that the Island had to of originated/comes from/built in what is considerd to the 815-ers, the future...
Ok...Latin was not always a dead language...I do not know the exact date when it offically died, I think it is @ 8th century, but that makes me think that the Island cannot go past that date, but more over to keep the Others from ever having to worry about such a delema, it would make most sence that The Others come from a time in which the langauge is still onsidered DEAD...which would not be the times of most ancient civilazations, such as Rome or Egypt.....the ONLY catch may be that if in the FUTURE Latin is alive agian, If so, then we at least have a more specific period as to when the Island can exsist.
As For Juliet, before someone tells me, what about her, she is exempt becuse In Stranger in a Strangeland she is branded, ’amoungst them, not one of them’...she is no longer an OTHER....but she may become key into figuring out OTHER things...
We should remember Isabel pointed out that they have strict rules...Juliet would have bveen executed if it wasn’t for Jack.
Desmond is Jacob:
I know we have all been over this a ga-ton of times, but I never really thought or recall reading any ideas that Desmond could be Jacob.
Desmond has been officialy been named special...he does not have to follow the same set of ’rules’ as everybody else...but that does not mean that he doesn’t have any.
For a long time I though Desmond was a mole for Charles Widmore and now maybe even Ben, but the catch is, he never knew he was their mole!
-It’s possible that Libby was hired find and sell Desmond that boat, even though Libby is a nickname for Elizabeth, it might just be a cover...we don’t know WHO made that boat, what company.
Something else that is suspicious is the Monostary...Hawkings is obviously in ka-hoots with the monk and yet the day Desmond was dismissed, Penny shows up and askes him to go with her. -and we know now that Hawkings is capable of figuring out allgerythms to determan probable EVENTS.
As the ’Event Changer’ Desmond may prove to be VERY valueble.
And, it seems that it might come down to that the differant rules imply that Desmond may become ’unstuck’ from time to time and as some of us were already thinking, this may be why Jacob appears, or lacks appearance, to us, because he is ’unstuck’ too?
There may be consequences for being able to Change Events...like forever being LOST.
I have ALWAYS thought Jacob was a parody to Jacob Marley of Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol!!! Jacob the ghost of Island’s present, future and past! -and Desmond’s book, the one he wants to read before he dies, Our Mutual Friend, is also a Charles Dicken’s novel....and Christmas is when Desmond found his constant and talked to Penny!
-Naomi Dorrit is also of Charles Dickens referance, Little Dorrit and she had (a copy?) the picture of them both and was hired by Widmore
-I have heard people say that the whispers relate to Desmond when Hugo is outside the cabin in The Beginning of the End.
In Because You Left, Sawyer says, "...and now the ghost of Christmas future came banging at his door." Outside of the Swan hatch Desmond was in.
Also there is a sequel to A Christmas Carol , writen by a modern auther. The plot explains how Marley escapes from Hell.
