Firstly, sorry for my English, I am not English-speaker so would appreciate if you take it into consideration.
I think the reason that O6 must come back to the Island it's that they all are Constants for thouse people who they left behind.
As we know to survive and do not die from the nosebleeding and etc. caused by time-jumping every person needs to find his own Constant.
So that's the reason they must come back and save their life.
Also Ben as soon as he comes back to the Island he has to stop these time jumps. He has his own reasons to come back and O6 it's like his lucky ticket because without them he will not be allowed to come back there.
By Lock's death they all understand how it's important and that he gave his life for it.
As Island is out of the time so there is no ageing so as soon as person get there they stay in the same condition. It's like time was freezed and you stop getting older. As there is no time and this place is clear (by special meaning) so people when they die won't die by our conception they are still alive but have another nature of being because in this place nothing can lost and nothing can born.
I guess Mrs. Howkins is in Monastery along with monk.
