I watched this video:
http://www.break.com/index/how-to-imagine-the-tenth-dimension.html
and immediately thought about both Lost and Fringe. For Lost - the video describes how to imagine each dimension from 0 through 10. At one point the video describes how moving from one point to another in one dimension could be possible by folding space through the dimension above it. So to move from one point in time (4th dimension) to another unrelated point, you would fold the 4th dimensional lines involved through 5th dimensional space. This would have the effect of allowing a 4th dimensional being to appear to disappear from one point and reappear at another. Sounds like the flashes, doesn't it?
So if the Island (or the Losties) are moving through 5th dimensional space when they flash, that would mean the FDW somehow created that ability to fold the 4th dimensional lines through the 5th dimension.
Ok, maybe I'm way off. But look at the video and see what you think. Could this be our explanation of how they move through time?
