Hi everyone. This is my first theory, I hope it isn't allready written :) And sorry if my spelling isn't right, I'm from the Netherlands.
I think I have an idea about the story behind the Pierre Chang movie we saw at Comic Con.
Most people think that Faraday is behind the camera. I agree with this. I also think this is why Faraday knows so much about the island and how Pierre Chang knows facts about the future (aproximately around 2004). Let me explain:
In the finale we saw that the island disappeared and probably moved in time. We also learned that things close to the island also disappeared (i.e. the tiny other-island). If this is true, then probably Faraday's boat also moved with the island. Now think of this: what is the island travelled to the past, along with Faraday's boat? And the people that lived in that time roam the island again... What if the island traveled back to 1978, with the DI alive and kicking?
Now what if Daniel returns to the island and goes to explore it? Then chances are big that he would run in to New Otherton. There he would meet the DI, including Pierre Chang. When they exchange information, Faraday (from 2004) could tell Pierre the things that were mentioned in the video: George Bush is president, the world has internet and dharma was purge. About the last piece of information: maibe Locke could have told Faraday about the purge? I don't know if Faraday knew allready, but he could have guessed it because of the abandoned hatches or maibe he run into the grave.
In exchange Pierre Chang could have told and showed Faraday all kind of things about Dharma. Normally he wouldn't tell, I think. But Faraday has just proven himself to be a scientist from the future, so he isn't just somebody. And maibe that's where Daniel's famous red notebook comes from: he wrote down all of Pierre's information about the hatches and principles the DI investigated. But I'm not entirely sure about that, because I thought Faraday already had the notebook with him from the future, so that would be weird.
Two things I haven't totally figured out yet are:
1.This traveling to the past could explain why Daniel seems to know more than other people most of the times. He knows that the island would be moved (and wanted to get Miles and Charlotte and himself of before it was too late). He knows about Constants and side-effects from time travel. But there are also things that he should know but doesn't: if he has a conscious memory about his first encounter of the island, then why doesn't he know about that in 1996 when he met Desmond. And why has he conducted the rocket-experiment if he already knew the island's time worked differently than normal time?
I think maibe he hasn't got a concious memory about his first island visit, but unconsciously he does. Maybe when he returns to the future, that is when and why he got mentally ill (he was cared after in the first flashback of him that we saw). He cried when he saw the Flight 815 wreckage (unconscious memory). But the notebook would still contain all the information he has written in it, so that is why he knows most bits and pieces, but not all, and he doesn't know how he got the info.
2. The other thing that is not realy clear to me is the purpose of the video. Why is Daniel so depressive and why is Pierre so anxious?
Sorry about the length. Please comment with your ideas, I'm realy curious about what you guy's think!
Greetings
