I have been thinking for a while there was something wrong about Jacob. Not that he is evil or something of the sort. On the contrary. From the beginning of the show the others have stated He was a great man. Ben strictly follows his orders and believes he is doing it to protect the island (as he mentioned in season 3 finale). Which makes me believe Jacob is also protecting the island.
I am not sure if Jacob controls the island or he just protects it. He might just be the island itself. I think it is too soon to tell at this stage.
For some reason Jacob needs the Losties. So far he has been using them for a purpose. Some have died because the ‘island demanded a sacrifice’ (Boone’s quote). But we know now that they all died to serve a purpose.
So far the island protected some of them: Michael, Jack, Locke. They too probably have to serve a purpose before they die.
So what could be wrong? Why does the island need the Losties?
- For a start, the island needs to be protected from Widmore, who I believe used to be the Other’s leader;
Widmore claims that the island belongs to him. So we can guess that he was once on the island and was a powerful person there. But somehow, he does not even try to go back to the island. He sends people instead. Does it mean that he cannot go back??? Could it be that he used to be like Ben, the other’s leader, and had to move the island for some reason, and thus was banished forever? Ben probably took the opportunity to usurp his place, which Widmore never accepted.
But somehow I do not believe Widmore is such a threat. There is a bigger one.
Locke saw something beautiful in the smoke monster (which is controlled by Jacob as we know now). The island is a place ‘where miracles happen’ and I believe it used to be a place of peace and beauty. But somehow evil got in or was released (women not being able to conceive, Ben’s cancer, Jack’s appendix). When did that happen? Not sure but Adam and Eve holding a black and white stone might be a clue.
And that is where the island needs help. But so far the island was trying to prevent a bigger calamity which I believe happened at the beginning of season 4, or just at the end of season 3.
The ‘help me’ that John heard in Jacob’s cabin was very meaningful. I do not think it meant that the freighter people were coming and John had to help him. I think Jacob ‘himself’ was in danger. Let’s look at Hurley’s own encounter with Jacob. We can clearly see a frightened eye, which belonged to Jacob (confirmed by the producers), and just behind him a very peaceful Christian Shepard, who is also sitting in Jacob’s chair!
And that is exactly when things happen to go wrong:
- Ben loses contact with Jacob.
- Ben’s daughter is slaughtered (I think Ben was expecting Jacob to do something. So far we have seen that the island has the power to prevent suicides (Michael and Jack), killings (Locke and Michael)). Ben knew that Jacob could prevent such a killing and could not understand why He did not. That is why he believed that he was not the chosen one anymore and bitterly stated that fate was a bitch.
- Locke/Betham dies. How could this happen? Locke is obviously a chosen one or very important for the island. The island should have protected him the same way it protected him in the dead pit (sorry guys, I do not believe that John's mission is over yet).
Locke is then summoned by Roger (a Dharma guy, ‘the enemy’_ who was probably killed in the purge because of Jacob) and tells him how to find ‘him’ (how strange. Would Jacob use a Dharma person to summon anybody?)
Jacob is nowhere to be found. Christian tells John he can speak on behalf of Jacob. Christian clearly makes John believe he is the chosen one. And then we see Christian and Claire smiling at each other.
Sorry guys, but it did not sound right to me. It looked like they were manipulating John. Christian then asks Locke not to mention Claire was in the cabin. Why????
Has anyone noticed that Locke never mentions that he spoke to Christian instead of Jacob. In Season finale, Ben always refers to Jacob thinking that Jacob gave the order to John to move the island. And I believe that Claire was not to be mentioned so that Ben would not question the orders.
For the whole time, Ben believes Jacob gave the orders. And we believe that so far only Jacob gave direct orders to Ben (and yet, Christian arrived on the island at the same time as the Losties). So he has no reason to believe that someone else gave the orders to John.
Well my thought is that Christian took Jacob’s place. Christian represents the evil force of the island.
There is one clue in season one which made me think Christian was no good: When Jack follows him through the forest, Christian brings him to a cliff, where Jack falls. If Locke had not been there, Jack would have died in the fall.
I also believe that he moved the island, so that the ocean six would not come back to the island. First of all he makes sure that the freighter explodes (telling Michael that he could go now, means that his job was over. So getting rid of the freighter was the purpose here). At this point the helicopter has nowhere to go, except going back to the island. But by moving the island, Christian made sure that they would end up in the middle of the ocean without help. So Christian’s aim was probably to kill them all.
What is more, Ben seems a very important character. Well at least for Widmore. Thanks to Christian, Widmore gets what he wants! Ben is banished from the island! That is a strange coincidence. Why would Jacob just disappear, suddenly stop all contact with Ben and ungratefully banish him from the island? That would be very cruel. I do not know for you guys, but I got to like Ben this season. And that is what the producers wanted us to do. They gave us a very human aspect of him, so that we would like him and trust him a bit more. His faith in Jacob and probably his love is very strong. That is what makes me believe that Jacob cannot be evil and could never act so cruelly towards Ben. Therefore, something is definitely wrong with Jacob being silent.
Now what about Claire?
We know that John Locke met the oceanic six to ask them to come back to the island. Ben asks Jack to go back too. Jack knows by now that he was not meant to leave the island. Something wrong happened when he left. And now they all have to come back.
So why does Claire give opposite directions to Kate?? Well it seems that Claire and Christian do not want the Oceanic Six to go back to the island, which is totally wrong!
