So I've been thinking about this whole moving the island business. And the more I think about it the more it makes sense that it's talking about moving the island in time. Now, we already know that the island exists in a separate plane of time than the real world, first it was behind, but now (thanks to proof by Doc Ray's corpse) it's in the future. But what I'm thinking, is that when Ben & Locke use the Orchid station, the island itself will go back in time, so that it cannot be found by outside sources (Widmore). Hurley brought up an interesting point last episode that if they need to move the island, won't Keamy & crew move with it, and yes they will, but maybe before Ben does what he has to do at the Orchid, he will make sure Keamy & crew are dead (which will in turn probably blow up the Kahana thanks to that doohicky on Keamy's arm).
Anyways ... reverting the island back in time, I think will be like pressing the reset button. I've always thought that the actions on the island (that we've witnessed on the show) seemed to be replaying over and over, which would explain why Ben, Locke and other characters seem to know the outcomes of events on the island. Kinda like Groundhog Day, but more complex. When the "reset button" is pressed, anyone who is not on the island (because they left via rescue ... O6) will no longer be in the timeline when it resets. So, if say the island resets to the day of the crash, there will be no Jack, so maybe Locke will be the leader instead. If there's no Jack then anyone treated by Jack medically probably will die in this version. If there's no Kate, then there's probably no Marshal Mars and no gun briefcase. If there's no Sun, will there be Jin? If there's no Aaron, will there still be Claire? If there's no Sayid, will they ever meet Danielle? What about Hurley, what! would change without him? Sounds a little like It's a Wonderful Life, but it would be interesting to see it play out in an alternate way like that.
But maybe they'll go back to the time of the Dharma Initiative instead, or further back, or even more interesting, further into the future.
Let's just wait and see.
