Well,in the wake of "Meet Kevin Johnson" everybody can now put to rest the biggest question on their minds, is Tom gay? Just kidding, but I will get to him later (nothing big, so relax). I have compiled a set of topics and my theory, or just my favorite theory on that subject.
The Coffin
Now, many of us have already concluded that it is Locke, or even Michael which would make sense considering the neighborhood it was in. I tend to lean more towards Michael considering all the evidence along with the fact that team Darlton said that the man has a teenage son, although I am still unsure of the exact time line, it is possible that Michael killed himself, but after a redemption such as saving the losties (I am assuming that he does this considering the fact that they are alive and kickin', at least a few of them) that he would make up with Walt and live happily ever after? So what could have killed Michael that would leave him without family or friends, and in San Francisco. I have no clue as of yet, but it is possible that he was lured there by Widmore and beat down like that poor redshirt Other (I do not like Widmore).
The Time Differential
Well ever since we found out about the time discrepancy everyone has been practically freaking out about all of the different possibilities. Personally I agree with a theory on DocArzts blog that states that the island is the center for all time and thus works in a state of "neutral time" the island has no local time and is a metaphorical island in time. Each bearing that has been given leads to another time and in between them is a mix of both so that the one passing through time is dislodged because of that.
In theory that means that Michael could have been given a bearing that leads to the present, or at least the present in the mind of the lostaways. The route to the freighter on the other hand leads to a person going forward in time for quite a bit.Explanation: considering it has only been 3 months ISLAND TIME (I rounded it up if all the Kevin Johnson stuff happened within the month between him leaving and his return) since a high profile plane crash and supposedly not too long since the discovery of "The Wreckage" and Lapidus still asks Michael if he remembers it meaning it has been quite some time at least 6 months (I can't remember big news like that for that long).
I am going to go with a total of 9 months to the losties 3 which makes island time run 3x slower than that in the "present" also the time travel thing could've allowed Tom to come back after his death, if he took the route that leads to Michaels present.
Smokey and the Bandit
Ok we all know and love Smokey, but he has never been seen off island until now, with this new evidence I am thinking that Smokey is just a mental projection of the island as a character and that projection is permanently stuck with anyone leaving the island who has been on the island for a nice chunk of time and has experienced something (unsure what exactly). So what does this all mean, it means that Smokey can appear in a dream state to the Lostaways and of course as a solid touchable form as in Kate's horse or Libby the Friendly Ghost.
