I suggested in another thread that maybe there was no Jacob and Locke had a Vision (Island Trip)
Like when Locke gave Boone an "Island Trip" putting something on his head injury that made Boone see Shannon and the Smokie monster.
I came up with the Idea just as a way to explain a few things during the Jacob scene.
It would explain why Locke saw nobody, and then He did see somebody
(The drug kicked in)
It would explain how Ben got Locke’s Gun
(Ben took it while Locke was tripping)
The Lantern that Locke sees break seems fine when Ben brings it out.
(It didnt break)
I watched the scene again & noticed some Small details that might show How Locke came to be tripping.
The Sting
Ben Stops looking at the strange powder on the ground
By stopping Ben makes sure Locke notices the powder, He then steps over it and carries on.
Ben knows Locke will have to check it out.
Locke Investigates the Powder
Locke has a sniff of it
(and I think to him it smells familiar.)
Ben calls to Locke and Locke dose a quick wipe of his hand on his leg and he follws Ben
Locke takes off his bag and they walk towards the house, the camera looks at ben but in the background you can see Locke wipe his mouth with the same hand that held the Powder.
Locke (wether he knows it or not) Just left a trace of the powder on his Lips.
Ben tells Lock after he opens the door there is no turning back.
Camera looks at Locke and he licks his lips. (Its dark so I high lighted it.)
Ben says "Are you sure this is what you want ?"
Locke walks forward ready to enter.
Ben shouts to Jacob, and tells him he is coming in with John Locke.
Camera looks back towards Locke and he Licks his lips again.
Locke has ingested the Powder.
These may seem like minor Details, but I think they tell a story.
I think The part of Locke’s trip/vision with the Lamp is symbolic of Locke’s Sweat Lodge, and that’s why we saw Locke through flames that suddenly vanished.
Im sure people wont like this suggestion, because we all (myself included) want there to be a Jacob.
I suspect Locke knew he had a Vision and thats why even after he seemingly saw Jacob he was telling Ben he was a fraud and said he was going to expose him
This may be why Ben shot Locke, (Locke had not been fooled)
In the Wizard of OZ the Wizard sends Dorothy to bring him the Witch's Broomstick before he would grant her wish
(Dorathy tells he Wizard she will have to kill the witch to get it)
Dorathy Kills the Witch when the witch Burns the scarecrow then she takes the broom to the Wizard
The Wizard tries to get out of keeping his promise to Dorothy.
But He is then exposed as "The Man Behind The Curtain"
Ben Made Locke Kill his farther, then bring his Body to him
Locke Kills His farther with the Help of Sawyer (scarecrow)
Now Like the real Wizard ben is not living up to his promise
And he is trying to fool Locke just as the Wizard tried to fool Dorothy with his projection of a menacing figure with a deep powerful voice
Locke(Dorothy) knows he’s just a man behind a curtain and that’s why Ben Shot Locke.
Locke told Ben
"You are the man behind the Curtain, the Wizard of OZ"
The Real Wizard of Oz, was a man behind a curtain for a reason.
He projected a menacing figure with a deep powerful voice.
This was how the Wizard of Oz maintained his status.
And this is how I think Ben is trying to maintains his status.
