My friend came up with a Jacob theory. yes-- i know what your thinking... another one. but actually, this makes alot of sense. It contains the title for episode 20, so that may spoiler. alright-- I'm done talking-- here's the theory:
"After reading into some of the descriptions of the infamous "Jacob", I've come to a conclusion. I don't believe he is real.
The title of an upcoming episode "the Man Behind the Curtain" alludes to the Wizard of Oz yet again. In Oz, the Wizard was considered a great and powerful man who could do pretty much anything (sound familiar?). However the actual "wizard" was a mere projection. A puppet created by a small aging man to give the illusion of an incredibly powerful being who commanded awe and respect.
This sounds similar to the on-island story. Ben has a lot of respect amongst the Others, however if this is the case why would the destruction of the submarine be the end of him? Mikhail doesn't respect Ben that much. In his speech he claimed that Ben was not a great man. The great man brought him to the island.
Yet the fabled Jacob who many suspect is the great man (recently confirmed by a podcast), and who created the grand master list that contains all the "good people" Ben is recruiting, has never actually appeared on island. There are two possibilities, either Jacob is on the island but remains elusive or heavily-guarded (it's also possible that Jacob is the actual island or indeed the smoke, if we really get too deep in thought), or Jacob isn't real.
What if Jacob is the "wizard of Oz". Jacob is an illusion created by Ben (who is the man behind the curtain). Ben can't project himself as a great man, he clearly shows weakness despite his front (the fact he got sick is one). What if Ben created an illusion of this great man, Jacob, who the many drug-induced and room 23 brainwashed Others believe they are actually doing the bidding of? What if in actuality Ben is controlling them all with an elaborate illusion?"
