We saw the power first with Walt. He seemed to have some special ability to draw the bird that he is reading about. He also was awesome at backgammon and knife-throwing. It is written off as luck, but don’t mistake that with destiny. Brian was weirded out by Walt and didn’t want much to do with him. Mrs. Klugh asked Michael if he was special like his son. He didn’t know what she was talking about.
Juliet somehow was able to get her sister pregnant. Mitelos wanted her so bad for some reason. Maybe it was more than for her scientific expertise. Juliet wanted to get out of her job, but said that the only way it could happen would be if her husband was hit by a bus. He was. She wanted it and made it happen.
Jack healed Sarah in some unexplainable way. He wanted it to happen.
Claire wanted her mother to die. It happened. Christian may have been the carrier of the special genes and passed it both to Jack and Claire.
There may be more than this. Maybe not all of these stick. I think that there are too many for it to be coincidence.
I just can’t find the motive of the Others/Island/Fate for bringing them together. I don't think enough has been told to know the whole story.
