About a week ago I posted a theory with the following main points:
1. Jughead had always exploded and the button-pushing Swan was always containing/delaying the consequences, (The WHH part of the theory)
2. Jack and Co. would not be flashing back to the future, but would live the next 30 years (1977-2007) setting up the events that lead them to the island in the first place (the "Moustrap" part of the theory) -- this would mean that Jack and Co. may very well be at the top of "The Others" food chain and have been directing that group's activities both on and off the island.
3. The Jacob's touch had "alpertized" Jack and Co. so that they will not physically age over the next 30 years (1977-2007) -- (the "lpertized" or "how can we avoid the actors in cheesy old-age makeup" part of the theory -- many people pointed out a few potential flaws to this theory).
I've been re-watching Season 2 and 3 with my daughter recently, and have come acrss a few things that were pretty interesting in light of this possible theory:
1. In "Stranger in a Strange Land" (s3e09) Jack and Mr. Friendly are having a conversation about what kind of people Jack thinks "The Others" are. Jack says something like, "the kind of people who kidnap children, steal pregnant girls, string up people (i.e. Charlie) and leave them hanging in the jungle," etc etc. Mr. Friendly's response is "guys in glass houses shouldn't throw stones." What does that mean? Well, if Jack is actually at teh top of "The Others" food chain and has given the orders to do all those things, it could mean a lot.
2. Later in the same episode, Isabell the "sherrif" lady asks Jack about his tattoos. She says that they are ironic. Later she tells us what they mean to her -- "He walks amongst us, but he is not one of us." Why would that be ironic to Isabell? It would certainly be ironic if an older Jack really were one of them.
3. In "Not in Portland" (S3e07) one of the messages in the room 23 film is "we are the cause of our own suffering." Could that be a hint that Jack and Co. have been the ones who set up all their own "suffering" as a means to get to a greater end?
4. In "Flashes Before Your Eyes" (S3e08) we first learn the rules of course correction -- that even if you try to change things, it won't matter, because the universe puts things back on their pre-destined path. And we get a little glimpse of this with desmond -- this time he DOES buy the ring, but in the end he still doesn't marry Penny. He also steps in and takes the cricket bat blow in the head from Jimmy Lennon, saving the bartender, but that doesn't change his ultimate destiny either -- he still ends up on the island. So even if some events in 1977 played out a little differently than before, the end result will still be mostly the same.
5. When Sayid first sees the four-toed statue, it is just the foot -- something has happened pre-Oceanic 815 to destroy the rest of the statue. Jughead's explosion may have done that.
With all this in mind, here is how certain I am that these parts of the theory will prove to be accurate:
1. The "WHH" part -- 70%
2. The "Moustrap" part -- 90%
3. The "alpertized" part -- 50%
