SOME NEW THOUGHT PROVOKING THEORIES AND OBSERVATIONS by BenHasAPlan
Just like the one after season 4, this hiatus sucks. But one of the things that keep freaks like us going is reading theories and analysis from fellow freaks. One of the problems, I’m finding, is that a lot of the theories are very similar to each other. They still make for great reading, is anyone else sick of seeing “WHH” and “ALT?”
I’m going to present some NEW ideas that either haven’t been proposed, or that I simply haven’t seen (if someone else has posted something like these, apologies in advance J ). The idea is to start some new discussions and look at new angles. You don’t have to like or agree with them all, but if one of them inspires you to come up with a fresh new theory of your own, I’ve done my job. Please feel free to comment! To counter one of my theories, you’d need to come up with a theory of your own. So it’s a win-win!
This is going to be VERY long. But it’s going to be fun. So if you’re like me and find interesting new theories the closest thing to new LOST content, grab a snack and join me…
SIX THOUGHT PROVOKING THEORIES:
I. Do You Have the Stones To Read This Theory?
Remember the stones Jack finds with Adam and Eve? What if the whole damn show (or war, or game, or story, or destiny, etc) ends up being about those 2 stones? Even if that’s somehow an overstatement, I GUARANTEE they are going to come into play in season 6, and in a big way I predict. Here’s the evidence:
-Jack finds the stones on Adam and Eve
-TBTB have stated explicitly that once we know the identities of A&E, we will know they knew where they were going the whole time. I actually heard the interview where the producers in L.A. said this, so it’s an A&E true Hollywood story :p
-Locke talks about “2 sides, one light, one black” in a way we just KNOW has serious macro-importance.
-Jack pockets the stones
-Jack is our main character.. and he possesses the stones
-OK, I could be wrong on this one, but I could have sworn I both read and saw this: isn’t there a Desmond flashback scene where the stones are seen on a table briefly? Somewhere those stones have shown up since the Cave of Eden. Desmond has tons of was-actually-the-main-character-the-whole-time potential, which I’ll expound upon in a theory below. So if someone besides Jack is going to possess the stones, it might as well be Desmond or Locke. And Locke’s dead. …ish.
We just know TBTB are going to give us a resolution that will punch us in the face (in the most loving way, I assure you). Something that will, like Michael Emerson said, “have been in front of our faces the whole time.” It may be true, it may be lore, but the internet seems to believe there’s a clue very early on that everyone has missed. We might have seen our heroes’ destinies within the 1st couple episodes. It might be a stretch to say the whole story centers around those 2 stones (and it might not), but mark my words: those stones will show up again. And they will be very, very important.
II. What Richard Alpert Really Is
A lot of people think Alpert is from the Black Rock. And I must admit, between his ship-in-a-bott’l and the Black Rock appearing in the same episode that signals Alpert’s role as “series regular,” it’s definitely been strongly foreshadowed. So that may very well end up true. But here’s another theory I’ve had for a long time that, with some good explanation from the writers, may not necessarily have to contradict the Black Rock idea. In fact it COULD strongly reinforce it. Here goes.. Alpert is a scientist! Why does everyone seem to assume Milletos Bioscience is a front? I think the rugged jungle man thing is the charade. The evidence:
-We’ve seen Alpert off island four times, and three out of four of those times he’s been with Milletos. Alpert claimed to have left the island only 3 times, but there were 4: Locke’s birth, the Johnny Llama test, Locke’s high school locker extraction, and Juliet’s recruitment pitch.
-And boy, didn’t Alpert seem to know his science when he made Juliet an offer she couldn’t refuse (without hitting a dude with a bus, that is)?
-Alpert knows Latin. Which doesn’t necessarily mean he was born a long time ago (though he might’ve been), but could mean he’s very well educated.
I’m positing that Alpert is a scientist who is somehow observing the island’s goings on. He not the leader (that we know of), he’s an advisor. He doesn’t interfere, he facilitates. Hell, he could be Jacob’s constant. That’s why he’s “this way because of Jacob.” Who knows if he’d rather follow that comment with a “thank you” or a “that son of a bitch.” Jacob said the islands’ history up ‘til now has been “progress.” And who besides Jacob has been there to record all the progress? Ricardus! Which leads well to the next theory…
III. The Experiment Runs Deep
I believe that Dharma and The Hostiles/Others are, at their highest ranks, the same organization (Milletos? Hanzo Foundation? The non-hippie illuminati-esque Dharma Initiative?). The war between them is probably very real to the underlings, but to the big bosses is as inconsequential as a pile of tubes. The evidence:
-Considering the “war,” Horace and Alpert sure seemed happy to chit-chat. We didn’t hear any of it, but it was definitely calm.
-Not to mention, Horace is Dharma’s leader, so then why is he the one building the cabin for Jacob? How does he even know about Jacob? And why would he tell Locke, “if you find me, you’ll find [Jacob]?” Yeah, it was a dream, but on LOST, we can usually take those pretty literally.
-The Hostiles didn’t know about the Swan construction? C’monnn. This has been mentioned in other theories, but either the writers got lazy, the Hostiles are morons, or my theory has some more support.
-If we buy, for a moment, my Alpert-is-a-scientist theory, it becomes a strong support for this theory.
There’s definitely someone “higher up” than who we’ve seen; likely in Ann Arbor, Portland, and/or Australia (“the key to the game”). Honestly, before The Incident aired, I half expected its final scene to be a helicopter landing with a flamboyantly dressed Alvar Hanzo stepping off it bellowing dramatically, “Welllllcommee… to my ISSSSLLAAANNNNNNDDDDD!!!”
IV. “They’re coming.”
I loved this! Who’s coming? Well I see 4 different possibilities: 1. Losties, whether flashed from 77 or the re-crashing of 815 2. Everyone in the island’s history: Black rock, Henry Gale, 815, Dharma, etc etc The circle completes… again. 3. Some new group/faction we’ve never seen before. Geronimo Jackson? Just kidding. 4. Someone else. Here’s is a possible “someone else:”
The smoke monster! Huh? Hear me out. Here is the evidence. Anything with a * is a personal belief, anything without one is a fact:
-Smokey is somehow associated with the whispers. It may not BE them, but we have heard whispers before we see Smokey.
-The whispers’ transcripts suggest they may include familiar, possibly deceased friends, such as Boone saying “hi, sis” when Shannon appears.
-*The smoke could be made out of the substance (not to be confused with the boat) black rock.
-*This black rock has been theorized to sort of “record” the dead.
-We’ve also seen Smokey “record” people.
If we observe that scene through the lens of Smokey representing everyone it has “flashed” and stored, or that it’s nanobots (yeah they said it isn’t... so?), these possibilities would make for Smokey being a “they.” Mr. Smoke has been such a tertiary character throughout LOST. Yeah we all wanna’ know his deal, but for a show that’s been on for 103 hours, he’s appeared what, 10 times or so? Less than 30 min of screen time in 103 hours? What if in season 6, the smoke is much more ever-present than before, and represents a real villain or menace that needs to be dealt with. And perhaps killing Jacob was just the way to piss it off. Or to please it. Either way, it could be on its way as a result. I just about soiled myself when Locke said, “I’m going to kill Jacob” in Follow The Leader. Season 6 may have someone saying, “I’m gonna’ go destroy me a monster.” The Smoke may not be the “they” Jacob is referring to, but I’ll betcha’ it’s w! ayyy more in play than it has been in seasons past!
V. Another Take on Dr. Smoke
Credit to my cousin Dan (FeralFish) on this one. It’s actually more likely than the above theory, really. What if Smokey is a higher-dimensional being? The evidence:
-The Orchid video refers to time as 4th dimensional space. So we’ve broached multi-dimensions on LOST. There’s a cool video online somewhere that describes what each dimension up to the 10th is. Very interesting stuff.
-There’s a strong possibility season 6 will deal with alternate realities. If you can find the video I just mentioned, you’ll see that one could easily explain alternate realities as 5th or 6th dimensional space.
-It’s been scientifically posited that if a higher dimensional being existed, it would appear awkward and distorted to a lower dimensional being. Think of it like this: We see in 3d. If a 2d society were to see us, they’d only be able to see a 2-dimensional “slice” of us, so to speak, and would have no idea what the hell they were seeing. Awkward. So something moving about the 1st through 6th(or whatever) dimensional space might look like digitized blackness to us silly 3d-ers.
Just another possible angle on what our favorite threat to the tropical rain forests might be. Or it’s nanobots. Just sayin’.
VI. Long Live the King!
OK, I thought of this theory before season 5 premiered. But after The Little Prince aired, I basically discarded it (I’ll explain why in a sec, hold your ghost-horses). But oddly enough it was someone’s fan fiction 0602 final scene (sorry, forgot the author) that I thought was so interesting (and supportive of my theory!) that I’ve reconsidered it. I tend to never read those fan fic eps, but this one was done pretty well and really liked the ending. Here’s the theory, how I came up with it before, why I discarded it, and why I was inspired to reconsider it: Desmond is the King of the Island. The evidence, or in this case, rather the thought process since there isn’t much evidence:
-Before season 5 even began, there were spoilers. Desmond and Penny have a widdle baby. Awww. In fact it was even revealed that we were going to learn this right around episode 3 or 4.
-Then we started getting episode titles.. Because You Left, The Lie, Jughead, The Little Prince… excuse me, the little what??
-So at this point, I assumed this was going to be about lil’ Charlie (at that point only known as Desmond Sperm #481,516). And if he’s a little prince, then Desmond would be a… good, you worked it out!
-But then the episode aired and it was Aaron heavy and had that weird book referenced, and I figured, oh well.
-But recently, that fan fic episode ended with an alternate timeline with Desmond pointing a gun at Locke saying, “What the hell are you doing on my bloody island?” Now obviously this isn’t going to occur on the show, but it was very nicely and interestingly conceived! So I started to reconsider..
If Desmond was the rightful leader, and some people wanted to prevent the realization of such, they might:
-Trap and distract him under ground permanently (in theory at least).
-Have Chuck n Ellie both lure him to this trap and tell him it’s vital he stay in it.
-Inject him with something mysterious that might prevent him from realizing his true destiny.
-In a universe that likes to course correct, have him miraculously escape from his trap by “accidentally” crashing a frickin’ plane.
-Have someone very special tell characters not to open the door that leads to him.
-Put the numbers on the door that leads to him, and have him exposed to the numbers all day every day.
-Have someone tell him he’s uniquely and miraculously special.
-Give him pseudo time traveling powers.
-Have him told the island isn’t through with him yet.
-Have him tell the other main character he’ll “see him in another world.”
-Have him possess the 2 stones (if my evidence about him with the stones from my first theory was, in fact, correct).
This all might be way off base, but I’m certain even more support for it could be dreamt up. Consider the writing brilliance… the most important character doesn’t even APPEAR until the second season! And consider that, when they had no idea how long the show would run for, the whole big initial build up and macro-mystery ended up being.. Desmond! Who knows. But it’s interesting to ponder.
OK, now a few quick OBSERVATIONS:
In the season 5 premiere, correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t they in the Orchid for there to be an x-ray thingie of the wheel? But then doesn’t it take place at the end of the season in the Swan? I’ll have to re-watch The Variable, but either I’m missing something, or both stations have a wheel??
Why does everyone interpret Ben’s comment as “He broke the rules?” He said he CHANGED the rules. Very different! And very different implications!
North is going to somehow be very important. Eko writes Locke a love letter on the stick to “lift up his eyes and look north.” Then Alpert says of the compass, “It points north, John.” Somehow North is going to be important, watch!
Interesting connection: Ben tells Locke about the magic box. Hurley tells the guy in the institution he plays the numbers in the lottery and he tells him, “you opened up the box!” hmmmm….
Anyone else notice when Claire tells Kate not to bring Aaron back, she has no Australian accent whatsoever? That would be a very surprising mistake.
Illana says of the cabin, “Someone else has been using it,” and people assume she means Mr. Dark. But I’m pretty sure we saw Christian use it twice, once with Claire.
And speaking of Christian, anyone else notice he has the power of teleportation? He was on the freighter to send Michael off! Whatever the hell he’s doin’, he’s become a powerful dude! Though he seems really nice. How come, other than Ben, every potential villain on the show is kind of a sweetheart?
Something to ponder: How is Locke’s current situation helping to “bring the family back together?”
Alright, I’ll stop for now. There’s just a lot of stuff I think of that I don’t see addressed in other theories. It was finally time to share. To anyone still reading.. wow, thanks! Lol Hope to see some comments if you’re still awake.
Peace!
