So this isn't one big theory, rather a collection of ideas and scenarios yet to play out.
I'll begin with the title of this post; a simple idea speculating that the 'real' Locke is yet to be ressurrected giving the island, essentially, two John Locke's, and Jack and Co is transported back from the past because he is the only one who can identify the real John by identifying his father's shoes he himself put on John's feet!
Not exactky earth-shattering stuff but I thought it was a pretty sweet idea.
Been reading all these theories about the debate whether or not Jacob is the good or bad guy. Some strong evidence to suggest in a previous theory(sorry forget the title) he is the latter. However, I'm still of the belief that Jacob is good. Further more, I believe although Jacob appears to be someone we've never seen before, isn't entirely true since Jacob is actually (dum-dum-DUMM) Aaron! Again, not an altogether revolutionary idea, but I think there's alot of interesting evidence to support this. Evidence which I mostly take no credit for but feel needs to be brought together as one for a collective idea. Think about it. Ever since we first heard about Jacob, we've been speculating WHO it could be... Jack... Locke... Sawyer(yeah right!). And now we've seen Jacob and it's 'Oh... so THAT'S Jacob, just some new guy'. Maybe this is the writer's clever way to make us, the audience, stop asking the question of who Jacob is, like we've been doing for the last two years! or so, when we should be asking that question more than ever. Before Jacob said 'Help me', didn't the writer's tease that Jacob is someone we've 'seen' but not yet heard speak? We've seen Aaron, but we ain't heard him speak 'cause he bloody can't yet!
Consider Jacob and his Nemesis(don't like calling him Esau--think people get too hung up on the biblical references). If we, for the moment, ask not WHO they are, but WHAT they are, I think the natural conclusion is they are NOT human, but Gods of some sort. Maybe not Gods that exist in our actual culture, but God-like beings with powers etc. I've thought about this alot, as I'm sure have you. But as always with Lost, things aren't that clear cut. Currently, or, in their conversation on the beach prior to the arrival of the Black Rock, they are BOTH Godly beings i.e. Nemesis is smokie, Jacob, well, is something else. But I don't think they were BOTH always Gods. Nemesis maybe. But not Jacob, since Jacob began his life as Aaron.
I propose that Jacob grew up off the Island, but for some reason journied back, got flashed to the ancient past where he some how acquired Godly powers and was given status of the almighty Jacob.
There are some interesting points to consider if this is the case. That great scene, the conversation between Nemesis and Jacob, is a key scene that crystalizes what the show is all about. These two characters, and their opposing ideologies on the human race. Won't give quotes since you all probably know the scene line for line, but the general gist is that Nemesis' belief system is more that of a strict God. That humans are mere lower beings compared by their standards and that we are prone to violence, greed, to fight, destroy, corrupt etc, and that we should be judged and punnished accordingly for our sins of offending the Gods, and raping their paradise. Jacob, on the other hand, seems to be of the opinion that people have the capacity to choose good over evil, yes, we do fight, destroy, corrupt etc, but with each itteration of those failings, we grow as a species. 'Struggle is natures way of strengthening it', we evolve, learn, develop, and if it ends, it'll only ! end once, everything up until that point, just progress. Does this, to you, seem like the perspective of a strict Mount Olympus-type God? No, this is a much more HUMAN perspective. Ergo, Jacob/Aaron IS or ONCE WAS human who somehow came into power and a significant position of authority on the Island. This is the interesting dynamic that exists between the two characters; Jacob and Nemesis.
Couple of side notes as they come to me. Jacob seems to be ageless and comes from older an time than even the Black Rock, yet he, and also his Nemesis, speak with proper English-American accents. Sure it could be the Director's way to make the show more accesible to the casual viewer. Don't buy that. There are entire episodes where characters speak foreign languages. This speaks to evidence that Jacob/Aaron and possibly Nemesis, are modern characters who've found their way to the past and got stuck there.
Will we ever see the real John Locke again? Yes. The writer's owe us that. But to conclude some story threads, we have to see him again. One of the themes of the show and especially this season is the idea of cons, deception and manipulation. But this season marks one of the first times where we, the view, had been majorly decieved. Decieved into thinking we've being watching our beloved John Locke, ressurected and walking around on the Island when of course it turned out to be an imposter. So the writer's owe us. They have to deliever something majorly satisfying in the shape of the real Locke. My guess is that we are still yet to witness the 'real' ressurrection of Locke. And further more, Jack and Co will time flash right at the moment it happens, it will be witnessed by all. Jack and John will share some final scenes and then John will disappear into the jungle, never to be seen again. His ascention, much as in the way of Christ, his ascention to become one ! with the island. Then Jack can fully embrace his destiny as leader. I've always believed it was never John's destiny to be leader, it was to instil faith in Jack so that he could lead. And that mission is complete. Jack has made the journey from man of science to man of faith. Almost. But the witnessing of Locke's ressurrection will complete that transition. And then John's mission is over. He's reached his destiny. And that notion alone, will be deeply gratifying for him. He will have found piece. And then he will die/ascend.
Final thoughts. If Jacob is Aaron, then Claire is Jacob's mom. She still has a major role to play. Jack is Jacob's uncle. Christian his grandfather, and more intersting, Charlie, his surroget father. As mentioned in another theory, a cool idea that -- even though Aaron won't remember, Charlie played role as acting father for a short period. Although, Charlie could never have been father to Aaron if he didn't get off the drugs, And who helped him get off the drugs? Locke. What was the tool? The guitar. So Jacob/Aaron giving the guitar to Hurley in the taxi to give to Charlie back on the island(come on, we know he's coming back!) is a symbolic thank you from Jacob to Charlie for being in his life for the short time that he was, and helping his mom Claire out with baby Aaron.
Okay, it's late and I'm fooked. There's more I wanted to say but this is becoming less and less coherant.
