It's one of the oldest cliches in playwriting: if you introduce a gun in act one, it'd better go off by the end of the play.
Miles will talk to Daniel.
Unstable Jughead will go off.
Our '77 Losties will be present, and Richard Alpert will see it happen.
John Locke & the Lockettes will reach Jacob (to be determined, but probably Locke himself).
Whatever happened, did not necessarily happen, but the universe/fate/destiny has a desired result, and course-corrects to achieve that result. It's, well, easier to say Whatever Happened, Happened. But remember that even Daniel, in the end, thought otherwise--that it was technically possible to change the future (but did he know about course-correction?). Is Desmond special, or could he save Charlie only because of the future-knowledge he got from flashing? If the latter, then our '77 Losties (with their future-knowledge) can change and are changing what happened, but the universe will course-correct in the end.
The bomb goes off, and the Island takes the opportunity to transport the Losties to the place they're next needed--the future (as we've already seen past and present). John Locke & the Lockettes somehow end up at the same place in time (probably directly through the interaction with Jacob, especially should Jacob be Locke--and, as corollary, Locke's encounter with Jacob being what dooms him to become Jacob in the future, trapped by time--here I point you to modern philosopher Jacob Needleman and his book Time and Soul, but that would be for a separate theory).
So, Daniel's plan was successful in avoiding the Hatch, the button, everything, Desmond causing Flight 815 to crash, etc. However, if an unplanned atomic bomb goes off on planet Earth in 1977 during the Cold War, that's it--game over, world done. And if our Losties are still on the island, the universe must have course-corrected onto the island, even if not by medium of Desmond not entering the numbers.
We've seen lots about season 4 mirroring season 3, and the parallels between seasons 5 and 2. It follows that season 6 should mirror season 1--and thus end with our Losties coming to the island.
