LOST Theories - DarkUFO

This isn't so much a theory on plot specifics, but on the type of narrative devise they may use in season 6. I thought of this yesterday and didn't post it. But as it seems some of the set reports are strongly supporting it today, I feel the urge to post now.

I think season 6 could be a season of recontextualizing. Exploring scenes and timelines we're familiar with but by exposing another layer of what was going on. It will be WHH on crack. Season 5 gave us our first real taste of this:

1. Locke was actually right there when Richard tended to his bullet.

2. When Locke fell out of the building, Diamond-J was chilling on a park bench.

3. While Desmond was in the hatch.. whoa, he got a visit from Faraday!

4. When Claire gave birth.. whadda ya know, Sawyer actually watched it live!

Whether realities are alternating or things are changing or whatever, I think season 6 will re-show us a lot of plot points we thought we knew all about so far. Some have written theories that Locke was Flocke all along. One can argue for and against that, but it would, if true, showcase major recontextualization. Christian and Alpert could've been throwing tea parties every week and the camera was just on different parts of the island while they was going on. Maybe Vincent is actually Mrs. Hawkings' dog?

We're getting reports about previous cast members returning for short amounts of time. Old sets are being re-erected. Perhaps the "reset" they seem to be setting up just course corrects itself right back into the new layer we're about to become privy to?

I'm not positing any specific plot theories here, even though I have many, but just trying to offer up a possible story telling vehicle that, like the devices of seasons before it, will confuse us and delight us and take the whole mind-eff that is the story of LOST to a whole new dimension.

Other interesting season 6 notes to think about:

1. In the s3 commentary to Man Behind the Curtain, Darlton all but promise that sometime before the show ends, we're going to get a lot more of Annie. And perhaps, like Eko's or Libby's arcs, they scrapped that, but if you listen to the commentary, you seriously start to wonder who might be at Ann Arbor.

2. There's really no evidence that between Jacob and his friend, Mr. Dark is the "bad guy." I'm not saying that therefore Jacob is the bad guy, but everyone seems so certain dark-Locke is now the villain. He might be. But if you look through the lens that Jacob is the crazy one, everything still makes just as much sense, if not more. "Do you have any idea how bad I want to kill you?" what if the next part of that sentence could've been, "...and save the world?" Pretend, for sake of argument, that Jacob is an arrogant genius demigod of chaos and re-watch that opening scene. Tell me the scene doesn't still work.

3. Remember that we're going to get a whole slew of new important characters like we have EVERY SEASON. There's no question that some will be so important, we realize we never had much shot as guessing the mysteries correctly without having met them yet. "Man, can you believe people used to post theories about LOST before they even introduced us to Leroy and Melvin?" I can see it now.

Hope this, at the very least, sparks some discussion. See you all at the Premier party!
