Theory Ben: “They did kill them, but it wasn’t my decision.”
Hurley: “Then whose was it?”
Ben: “They’re leader’s.”
Hurley: “But I thought you were they’re leader?”
Ben: “Not always.”
Would you call me crazy if I told you that the leader who called for said purge was none other than John Locke?
As the breathtaking two hour season finale was coming to a close, an advertisement for Octagon Global Recruiting was shown to all of us to recruit members to the Dharma initiative. Now, Darlton have already said season 5 would focus around Dharma. So I got to thinking: It’s gonna be the second coming of the Dharma initiative. The following is from Darkufo’s spoiler section:
8) On the Season 3 DVD Commentary : "Horace Goodspeed and Olivia are important to the DHARMA story, and we can expect to see more of them in the future. Speaking of volcanoes, there is one on the island. Damon says it will be of "seismic importance" (pun very much intended.) Annie is an extremely important part of the island's backstory, and it is a planned chapter to come. Annie is more important than the Goodspeeds or the volcano. We have not seen Ben's motivation for his role in the purge, but we will."
9) From Kristin : "The four-toed statue "will be back on the show," says Damon [Lindelof]. "People will learn who built it and why it has four toes.""
Then I thought some more: How would a present day Dharma initiative explain some of these mysteries? And I realized that a suspicion I’ve had for a long time now is going to come true. References between the 815ers and the Hostiles have been increasingly common this past season. Go back to Confirmed Dead, season 4 ep. 2, Charlotte exits a pond to find a group of 815ers led by John Locke staring coldly at her. The first thought that crossed my mind was “That’s as hostile a greeting as you can get.” Claire in The Other Woman, season 4 ep. 6 : “Ben shot one and you’re holding one prisoner, I can see why they might think we’re hostile.” The captions at the bottom of the screen a week later even noted the reference. So what time did the island travel to when Ben turned the frozen wheel? The 1960s. And if you think Lost is hard to follow now…your head will be spinning with the crazy time loop next year. The island will be inhabited by scientists, the volcano w! ill be active, etc. There is one man who loves the island so much he would be willing to execute a mass purge in its defense. That would be John Locke. Locke, the others, and the remaining 815ers are the Hostiles.

Wow. You just opened up a new door in my imagination. My head is already spinning, thinking about the different possibilities.
Cool Ideas.
I really like this theory. My first question would then be, "who is Richard Alpert and where did he come from?"
followed by, "If Locke is/was the leader of the hostiles, wouldnt the other hostiles (who most speculate do not age) recognize Locke when he crashed on the island?"
Also, the Dharma initiative was started in 1970. The purge happened on 12/19/92. I believe The hostiles were present during the entire Dharma timeline. Why would they wait so long to destroy them? (Maybe they needed Ben). Still, if the hostiles were really the Losties that stayed on the island after it moved, there are alot of questions that you would need to answer in order for me to steal this theory as my own :)
BUT, it could be the answers to a alot of different questions. Such as:
Why does Ben know so much?
Is Jacob, John Locke? Maybe Jacob becomes an apparition in the past when future John commits suicide.
Would there be two Sawyers, two Juliets, two of everyone who stayed? Maybe at the temple?
Cool theory....great show.
This is my major theory for Season 5 as well. The possibilities are endless, and so many things suddenly make sense. For example: Richard's age. When he meets a young Ben for the first time, we started speculating why he looks exactly the same age. Maybe he just travelled backwards with Locke? :) "You do remember birthdays, don't you Richard?"
Sounds like Swiks theory to me
