Does young & old miles occupy the same space and time simultaneously at some point later this season thus causing a cascading paradox and unraveling of events
Maybe Dr chang/ Candle asks Miles to hold his son ( getting to know each other a bit better) and it is this, that causes the incident.
I think that miles is the only person that exists simultaneously on the island in the past.
This theroy was visited in Time Cop a few years ago whereby 2 versions of the same person occupying the same space in present time would mean annihilation
Chang/Candle also stessed this on the Rabbit video , not to let the rabbits touch each other.
This would tie in with possibly a major character dying at the end of the season which would be Miles
