... in season 4’s ep “The Shape of Things to Come,” Ben goes up to Widmore’s penthouse in the middle of the night. Ben notices a bottle of scotch on the night stand next to Widmore’s bed and asks about it. Widmore says he’s been sleeping with the scotch since the nightmares started. This reminds me of Desmond waking up from a dead sleep to exclaiming he had a new memory – the same one mentioned above.
What if whenever something is changed in the timeline, somewhere and somewhen else down the road the effects are either immediately felt, or can only manifest themselves out of your subconscious when you’re sleeping and different parts of your brain are working, resorting memories and whatnot.
What if Widmore’s nightmares are a direct result of Locke meeting him in 1954?...
