Before I Let Go
A long-form theory & personal essay by Scott Gingold
Introduction:
This will be the very last theory I ever post about Lost, because well, hey I need to let go. What I would like to do here is go over all the parts of the show that I felt needed some further explanation or extra time devoted to, and then give my take on either what I think happened or what I would have liked it to have been. Before I get into it, I'd like to say that Lost was a one-of-a-kind experience. I've never been as fully immersed in a piece of fiction as I was with Lost and probably ever will be again. It captured my imagination and was sadly ultimately frustrating. It was a giant puzzle that I followed for 6 years watching every episode multiple times, watching all the bonus material, reading theories, writing theories, writing blogs, reading books and even writing fan fiction about. And yet somehow the giant puzzle didn't fit entirely together just right. I will always have a special place in my heart for Lost, but I was left with a slight tinge of disappointment, not only that it's over, but that it didn't all add up to one cohesive whole.
So without further ado, I will try to tackle the larger themes of the show that I felt needed further delving into. These are not so much unsolved mysteries, as not-fully-explored themes and ideas that the writers presented.
If you have a theory or a theory that you have seen on the net, then please fill out the form below or email me with the theory details and indicate that you want it posted on the site. If you have a link or photo etc please add these as well. I will then add the theory to this page which will allow others to comment on.
Please only use this for detailed theories rather than smaller thoughts and ideas. For these please use the shiny new forums where you can post directly. If your post does not appear in this section within 48 hrs please check to see if we have posted it in the forum for you.
NOTE 1: If your theory contains any spoilers or info from Promo's etc you must use the Spoiler Section of the Forum
NOTE 2: If your theory has excessive spelling and grammatical errors it will NOT be posted. Please proof-read your theory
NOTE 3: If your theory is too short or not a theory it will NOT be posted. Use the Forum for these.
NOTE 4: We no longer support video theories. Please post Video theories in the Forum.

In the Season 4 episode The Other Woman, we see Juliet getting interviewed/interrogated by Harper Stanhope. At some point in the conversation, Harper says (or something to this effect) that one of the reasons why she is here is because Juliet "looks like her". Now I know a lot of people including myself thought that this "her" was Ben's mother, as they are both blonde (funny how Juliet was also used to talk to Jack in the Hydra rooms because she looked like his ex-wife).
My theory is this, what if the "her" that Harper is talking about is in fact Juliet from the past (1977). Because young Ben must have seen Juliet in between 74 and 77, and after the events of Whatever Happened, Happened, young Ben must have been wondering where the lovely blonde who tried to fix him up after getting shot went to.... He searched for years and then found her in the USA and brought her to the island with help from Richard (Not in Portland).

A lot of recent theories have put many loose ends of the show into perspective, but I'd like to elaborate on a few that I feel were overlooked. My only criticism for the series is that that D&C didn't give themselves enough episodes develop a few of the minor story lines that they set up. The first three seasons outweigh the last three. Daniel, Ilana, and Charlotte were among the characters that had to compromise their stories due to lack of time. In the end these details don't matter, so now the creators want us to imagine and figure out on our own, which still keeps the series fresh, but I digress...
I will begin at the beginning, this is also a pretty long post, but it's worth it!

As the subject implies, it is a theory about the Black Smoke Monster which lurks on the island in LOST.)
A few days after I watched the final episode of the finale (maybe even a few weeks I forget), I put together an extremely strange and (if true) original idea on what the Black Smoke could be and what its purpose is. What if the Black Smoke actually is the Sideways World? This would explain many mysteries surrounding it and its abilities. Like when the transforms into only dead people. Or when people see their lives inside it.

Hey everyone! I have not posted in a long while, but that is because I have been working on my Ultimate Lost Explanation. I will acknowledge, the writers probably didn't plan all of this, but it makes me feel a lot better to know it all CAN be explained It is written in a similar format to Doc Jenson things.
THE DEFINITIVE AND UNIFIED EXPLANATION
Many people are torn about the Lost finale. Some feel it was a cop out. Some feel that the writers took the easy way out. Some do not like it because they wanted all the answers handed to them on a silver platter. Below you will find a total explanation of the show that sufficiently answers every aspect (of course, I may have forgot some. There is a lot of stuff). This is a combination of several different theories, and ideas of my own. We will go through the mysteries of the show one by one, so all of you feeling conned by the finale can hopefully get some closure and better understand things. Once again, these are not all of MY ideas. Many are borrowed, and put together in ONE UNIFYING EXPLANATION.

We could say that free will doesn't exist in Lost, or at least there wasn't a character completely free to make their own choices. If there was, the character would necessarily have knowledge of all the island's mysteries and forces, something that even Jacob seemed not to have. So what follows are some thoughts about the role of free will being very limited. They seem very random and inconsistent, but i hope in the end it can make some sense.(And forgive my poor english!)
The human being is the result of many influences and determinants. Not only social factors but also biological. All these combined, as much from the past as from the present, give rise to who we are today. The "flashbacks" were used to we understand better the Lost's characters, in the present. Our parents, the kind of relationship with them, are certainly a key part of what we are made of. Parents, the people that raised us and with that transfered a series of good, or bad, social values; the people who gave us their genes and thus possible genetic predispositions. Parent issues were a big deal for our Losties. But as we grow up, increasingly are the influences and determinants that shape who we are and who we'll be.
