This theory came to me as I tried to understand the significance of the ALT universe we are slowly being immersed in in this, the final season of Lost. Let me say up front, I am far from convinced this theory holds any water, and I hope it is not how the series ends. However, a solid argument for it can be made so I am posting it. As usual, I have not read all the theories posted on this site and others and acknowledge the follow ideas may not be original.
If you have a theory or a theory that you have seen on the net, then please fill out the form below or email me with the theory details and indicate that you want it posted on the site. A theory on everything but Jacob.
It's been argued that the submerged island, in what has been deemed our "flash sideways", is not a direct result of Juliet "detonating" the bomb. While I agree, there are many other aspects of the show that tie into this idea. While I do not have every answer, especially since all of our puzzle pieces of have yet to be revealed, I would like to present what I have built with those pieces already given to us. This does not give any insight into Jacob or his enemies, other than you should all go and read about the trapped brothers in the game 'Myst'.

I've posted this idea a few times before, but I want to reiterate and make things clearer after seeing some newer episodes. I still simply can't buy into the whole Egyptian God or alien theories, because they're just too simple for Lost. Everything ties into itself, and I can't see how Jacob being Anubis makes time-travel plausible. So, here is my attempt at tying things up and making sense of the show.

In "Lighthouse", Jin pulls back the veil of Claire's crib and reveals some twisted THING inside. As every prop and line in the show is carefully crafted and included by the writers for a specific purpose, we impulsively reach the conclusion that this thing in the crib was placed there simply the creep the heck out of us. It creeped me out! But then I wondered, WHY did Claire substitute her missing Aaron with such a monstrosity? And WHY does said monstrosity look the particular way that it does? Therein must lie the really tasty clues!

This theory erases all paradoxes and creates one unified timeline - a single quantum theory of time travel. What if jughead did not split the timeline at all but simply brought the characters back to 2007? The off island sequence in 2005 that we are watching is something entirely different shown in tandem with the on island sequence of 2007 to setup a big reveal at the end of the season.

I'm following for a long time, though this is my first theory. It's more a speculation, to which I have a lead more than hard facts.
As we learned in season 5 by our "headmistress" Hawking the circumstances of older expeditions to the island have to be imitated. Otherwise the outcome of trips to it is unpredictable. I presume this is also the case for candidates replacing the characters who "retire". For instance Jacob or the MiB. The problem is we don't know anything about Jacobs or the MiBs coming to the island. I presume further there are more roles to fill in besides Jacob and his nemesis.

My theory is that the key to the whole show is Desmond. We already know from past episodes that he is "special" and the rules of time travel don't really apply to Des. It doesn't apply because he doesn't really time travel but rather goes to different "realities". I think that all during season 3, while he was seeing Charlie die in different ways it wasn't because he was having visions, he was traveling through the different timelines and see what the pros and cons of each potential timeline were. I think that when Jacob told Hurley that someone was coming to the island, I believe it is Desmond. Jacob needs Des to go to the different realities and figure out a way for his endgame to play out to his advantage. But instead he uses his "gift" to find a loophole where Jacob never interfered with the Losties. In doing so, he will make to where he saves all the Losties and lets them land safely at LAX and he is some! how behind the island sinking, that is why Widmore and Hawking were so hellbent on trying to convince him that he wasn't "special" and couldn't change anything because they know that ultimately, he is the one who is truly in control of the island and he is the one who can set things back to the way the should've been.

Someone is coming to the Island, Jacob tells Hurley. They're coming, Jacob tells the MIB. Here's my (incredibly convoluted) theory:
1) THE ALT IS COMING: Specifically, the Dharma Initiative from the ALT reality is coming to the Island. "Over There", most of Dharma's personnel were evacuated immediately prior to the Incident, and those that were left managed to escape before the Island sank (a la Ben).

In the Original Time Line small details about our characters' lives can change. Crucial moments in their lives, however, will happen no matter what: Charlie dies; Desmond runs away from his relationship with Penny; Faraday is killed by his mother; etc. These crucial moments will happen. How, where, and when they happen can change.

Ok... this is a very long and involved theory that ties together many seemingly disparate elements of the plot and uses them to explain each other. It may be completely off the mark – these are just ideas I’ve had, rather than my firm beliefs on what’s going on in Lost. But it’s the way things seem piece together for me at the moment. Everybody is speculating on who Wallace is. Here's my answer to that question. Wallace is the one who Jacob is trying to get back to the island. His name was crossed out because he was thought to have left the island and therefore unimportant anymore. That's the reason Shepard and the other candidates appear in bolder lettering. Their names were crossed out and had to be rewritten when they returned to the island. That's what made their reappearance such a big game changing event to the island. MIB thought he had possession of the only candidate he would need to spoil Jacob's plan in the person of Locke locked down. Now who has left the island and not returned? Charles Widmore is trying his damnedest to get back to where he once belonged. I think that Widmore is not his real surname. If you will remember, Ben had lots of different Ids stashed away with different names when he left the island. I think Widmore is ! an alias. And I think that the label "Jones" on his stolen uniform was a clue as to this being so. Alias, as in Alias Smith & Jones. Widmore is the Wallace who is returning to the island. His true name has been Wallace all along. Jacob knows that because he chose him as a candidate once upon a time.

The feud between Jacob and the Man In Black has had many more far reaching consequences than we have been led to believe. What if their conflict has had far reaching implications off island? They use the people who come to the island as their pawns, and if they "escape" the island, or are allowed to leave, they continue to be used to accomplish the goals of MiB and Jacob off the island.
This may mean that in the Lost mythology, these two may have been responsible for many wars, assassinations, and conflicts throughout history. They have both been shown to be masterful manipulators.
The Reason behind their feud? Only one may "go home", as the MiB said he wanted to do. I theorize that "Home" is the alternate timeline, which has in fact existed for millenia as a slightly different version of history then the original.

We've all heard the theory that the island is Atlantis. But did you know Atlantis was built in honor of Poseidon, the god of the seas. Jacob, Richard, Christian, and the man in black (flocke) could all be gods such as Poseidon as christian, Zeus as Jacob, and Hades as Flocke. This would be the reason why they never seem to age. The island itself also holds some details to support the Atlntis theory such as the Adonis statue, the Hydra DHARMA station, and the black smoke. Mt. Olympus which is the home of the gods, is told to move around with the gods to keep it hidden. Atlantis, also follows this reputation and which would also support the lost island moving. The temple would be considered Posedions house, and holds the fountain of youth.
When we saw the island underwater, this could have been another way for Posidon to hide the island. The timetravel could have caused Poseidon to not flood the island and therefore the 815 flight crashed.

Desmond is the connection between the two time lines. We've seen him on the plane in the alternate time line and suddenly he has disappeared to the other time line .I believe he is shifting between those two time lines to assure the constancy of the variables of those two time lines. Having Desmond shifting between those two time lines is essential to keep them existing (any variable will need a constant which it can relate to so that it can exist). It's also important to note that when somebody dies in the island he dies in the island's time line and reunites with his subconscious in the alternate time line ,apparently this process takes few seconds in which we've seen juliet talking about going dutch and charlotte not being allowed to eat chocolate.
At the end I think Desmond is going to be the main key that leads the losties in the alternate time line to be connected to themselves in the island's time line which is going to be the major encounter between having choice(alternate time line) and destiny (the island's time line).

THEORY: Jacob wanted Jack to break the Lighthouse mirrors to protect the island from destruction. What do we know? We know that Jacob's goal in making sure that Hurley got Jack to go with him to the Lighthouse was so that Jack, upon seeing this mechanism of manipulation, would lose his temper and totally destroy the device at the top of the Lighthouse. Why? Why was this so vitally important?Remember when Miles was present on the island simultaneously with his baby self. Remember how nervous he was? I think Miles may have been aware of a theory that if a person exists in two different timelines somehow comes to one timeline and makes physical contact with himself then the fabric of time is ruptured causing an enormous explosion which may destroy both timelines and everyone in them. Remember the numbered bunny rabbits and Chang saying they could not touch. Same principle. These people have been doing expe! rimental time travel with animals. Jacob wanted to make sure that none of the candidates will be brought to the island from in this same time and meet themselves and blow up the island.

Instead of protecting the island, Jacob's main role has been to contain the MIB on the island. The MIB has been placed on the island (most likely weakened) and bound by rules, and Jacob is his positive counterpart and warden. The MIB cannot kill Jacob (or any of his candidates) nor leave the island without The Warden (Jacob or whichever candidate takes his place). This is why he has gotten Jacob killed and is befriending at least 1 candidate so far. Unaware of the true nature of the MIB, Saywer (or another candidate) might be willing to leave the island with him, setting him free.

Just a quick theory regarding the numbers on the lighthouse dial that have been crossed out.
Okay starting off, i think its clear that Jacob has been playing this out for a long time, he has taken an exceptional amount of time and effort to create this list of "candidates". I dont believe for one second that he has simply chosen 360 people out of nothing and hoped for the best, that one of these people will turn out to be next in line to take over Jacobs job of "island protector". He knows fine well what he is doing and has been creating this game for a very long time and what we are seeing now is how this game plays out and whether or not it will be successful.

Jacob tells Hurley that the someone is coming to the island and therefore he needs Hurley to turn the mirror in the lighthouse to help that person get to the island. We learn that each degree on the dial is associated with a name, presumably the "candidates". We learn that the lighthouse provides a window into the off-island lives of these people, either their pasts or perhaps their lives in the parallel timeline. How this magic mirror works is an interesting question. I hope the show gives us some semi-scientific theory into this. Dr. Chang and Dharma were studying the scientific basis for time travel and other such oddities caused by the special properties of the island. Did Chang know anything about this lighthouse or the ability on the island to see or hear into the past or into another dimension? Physics tells us that light and sound are eternal, the waves just get weaker and further away with time. M! arconi, the inventor of radio believed in his old age that one could build a radio that could hear into the past if only it was powerful enough.

The black and white theme, continuosly regurgitated on LOST does not necessarily pertain to good and evil. Like backgammon, there are two sides (you know them) and there is one goal, to win the game.
I believe that both Jacob and the MIB are trying to achieve the same goal, they are just going about it differently. MIB, appeals to reason and logic, while Jacob appeals to faith and trust in other peoples empathy and connectedness. Both are using human attributes on different ends of the emotional spectrum to achieve the same goal; to go home. They could care less about the lives involved in the game.

Okay, others have touched on it, but not like how I'm about to. There are many theories on this site and agree with the idea that the flash sideways or alt universe is actually a FLASHFORWARD. My theory is a simple opposite to this idea. Here goes:
I strongly believe that the alt timeline that we are seeing is actually WHAT ORIGINALLY HAPPENED BEFORE JACOB INTERVENED. Let me make it even more clear in case it's not: the past 5 seasons of LOST have been the result of an alternate timeline of the timeline we are seeing in these supposed 'flashsideways'.

Answer: "He who will save us all." But the answer raises another question...who is 'he'? Many have argued that it's simply Jacob. But Jacob lives inside, or even underneath the statue. Not in it's shadow. Another logical candidate is John Locke. Whom most people have argued against since he's dead, and their reasoning is "dead is dead."

There are numerous reasons to believe Christian is not the MIB.
For one, at this point it wouldn't even be a dramatic revelation, we'd just expect it. Two, Claire clearly thinks their two people based on her, "First my father told me, then my friend told me," comment. Then you have evidense such as Christian's body never being in the coffin. Also MIB was shocked when Jacob revealed "They are coming" which would indicate that slipping the losties into 1977 was a way to hide them from MIB, and yet Christian was fully aware of the situation.

Okay, so after being pretty convinced that the Losties' lives in the alternate timeline are better because Jacob wasn't able to interfere in them, I'm beginning to doubt that this is true. When I shared this theory with my wife she raised a really interesting counter-argument: in the original timeline, the MIB might also have been interfering in their lives. Now, it seems pretty clear that the MIB is stuck on the island, so how could he have interfered in their lives, you ask? Well, it does seem that he has representatives or emissaries off the island. For example, Charles Widmore may be in league with the MIB, as evidenced by the fact that Bram warned Miles not to accept the job Widmore had offered him because he'd be playing for the wrong side.

Wow. These five first episodes of LOST’s sixth and final season have all been filled to the brink with answers. The main problem as of now has been that these answers are coming from characters whose intentions aren’t exactly straight-forward. I don't generally like to write theories about mythology and the mystical elements of Lost. Science is easier to predict because it generally has rules. The writers could be making the mythology up out of thin air so I generally try to avoid the subject and just watch them tell their story.
However, I had an idea that I wanted to share and see if anyone else here has anything they can add.

10. We simply have to see him again. He can't have been shown every year only for him to make absolutely no appearance in the final season and his mystery to be rendered meaningless. Flocke is stuck now in his Flocke form of course. So Christian will just dissappear? I don't believe that.

We can assume from what we have seen so far is that everyone has a double of themselves living in an Alt universe. There have been ample references to Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. Just lostpedia Alice in Wonderland and you will see how many references there are. One very interesting piece of information about Lewis Carroll is that he was a leading mathematician of his era. He had a fascination with number 42 and with numerology and esotericism. Part of esotericism is a “conviction that nature is a living entity, the need for mediating elements (such as symbols or visions) in order to access spiritual knowledge, and a sense of personal transmutation when arriving at this knowledge.”

However I'll concede that obviously MIB could be tricking her here, but why?

Jacob to Hurley: Jack has something to do
What is it that Jack has to do? Die. Much like Locke had to die to come back to the island. Jack also has to do it willingly. Why does Jack have to die? Simply this: he is the island's savior. Biblical allusions have long been a part of the story that is Lost. Is it coincidence that the number that was assigned to Jack's name was 23? Probably not. Psalms 23 from the bible: the Lord is my Shepherd..." Jack has always been a leader, a shepherd to the island flock, and now he will become a Christ-like leader, in that he will have to sacrifice his life to save the island, possibly the world. Once Jack dies, Jacob can "claim" him as Smokey/MIB claimed Locke. Then, in Jack's body, Jacob can set about the task of recruiting his army for the ultimate battle, making him "He that walks among them but is not one of them", explaining the meaning of Jack's tatto. Jack is no longer one of them. Now he is Jacob.

Pierre Chang has an unfinished story as we don't know how he died. Also he is a fan favourite, has met many of the Losties, and most of all he has a son on the island who is kinda without a story at the moment.
For these reasons I believe he will appear again, and as he is obviously a man of great intelligence and possesses knowledge of the island's properties I think he is the most likely candidate who would know how to get to the island.

Theories have been posted on this, but I know for a fact this is correct, and you won't have anything to prove me wrong.
In "The Substitute", MIB is talking to Richard when he declines to go with him, at which point he sees the blond boy, which both startles and puzzles him.

Heres my take on those groupings as of today.

Why didn't Flocke take Sawyer to the lighthouse to show him all the names?
Maybe Sawyer would have seen his church up on the big screen and got a little cranky like Jack did and smash it all to bits. Flocke doesn't want the mirrors smashed because the lighthouse is bringing someone to the island that Flocke probably needs to help him be free. So Flocke takes Sawyer to his cave with a view instead. Nothing to break there except more rocks and Sawyer has most likely had enough of that.

Here it is. With everything in lost you need to look at everything from different angles.
I believe that the original timelime matches the alternate reality. Jack has a kid, Locke is with helen and so on. MIB find a way to destroy Jacob. A follower of Jacob travels back in time via the donkey wheel to warn him at of his impending doom.

Who is going to replace Jacob as the carer for the Island??? My answer: John Locke....
How could it be John you ask? John is dead and his name has been scratched off the list you say???
Firstly two things:
I think John is still the key to saving the island from Smokey. He was always the best man to do so - he cared for the Island and realised it was special. Secondly, it was Smokey that scrubbed his name of the list in the cave (not Jacob) and that might have been a wrong/premature move. Let me explain why...

Perhaps this is as much question as it is theory. Some have suggested that my theories are not theories, so I will attempt to relate this theory to the story line as much as possible. However, I do think that what I am going to explain speaks for its self. I was doing some research for a project and came across something interesting. I have always thought of Pascal as the man responsible for the invention of the thermometer, but I have come to realize that his experiments extend beyond experimentation of the physical world and involve the metaphysical world as well.

I've got it figured out. At least, I think I do. Let's look at the past few episodes, up through "The Lighthouse." 815 lands safely. Kate escapes. Jack has his son that he bonds with. Locke has a good relationship with his father (presumably) and is getting married to Helen. The island is completely gone. Hurley has always had good luck.

So, this is not a comprehensive theory, and this is my first time posting here. I'm still thinking it through. I know everyone says that, sorry.
So far in s6, we've seen two timelines. The first one picks up where the explosion left off--the second, picks up as though the plane never crashed. We've been assuming that the second timeline, the "flash-sideways" was activated at the same time as the bomb, in fact, because of it. I'm beginning to think that might not be the case.

About the numbers, in the episode "The Substitute" we started to get some answers, but also a lot of more questions. Why those numbers? (yeah, i know about the Valenzetti equation). Why is the logic behind Character / Number? and so on...
So, by coincidence, when season 6 started i was reading the Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy, by Douglas Adams and i found that, according to the book, number 42 was the " Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything". Hmmmm.... 42 is also a lost's number, is this a coincidence? I googled it and i found that it wasn't. In an interview to Lostpedia, David Fury, producer and writer of some episodes, said:

As a huge fan, I have noticed a trend within every season of Lost. Every year, me and countless others come up with deep, labyrinthine theories as to how the show will play out. However, year after year, its so much simpler than we think (hope?) it to be.
In season three, All along we were torn up about revelations of the others and the importance of the ability to procreate on the island...and what does the big turning point turn out to be, other than Jack's flashforward? The question the season pivoted on was whether Juliet was really a double agent or just working for the others. Season Four, we were waiting with bated breath for a massive on-island war. All it came down to was how exactly the O6 made it off. And last year, it all boiled down to setting off a nuke.

Here's what isn't making a whole lot of sense to me.
If changes in the MTL were made in 77 then I can easily understand how it would effect changes in the ALT after 77.
What I'm not understanding is how in the ALT Jack gets his appendix out before 77 but somehow in the MTL he gets it out as an adult on the island.

In the future mankind will eventually destroy itself. How does it do this, well, nature may eventually catch up with us - it could be global warming, take for instance it is global warming or the result of climatic change or something like an experiment going wrong - we get to a certain level of knowledge and invent something like the LHC that can bring about a tear in time or we find an island where we find some strange substance that is unique to that magnetic monopole of the Earth and eventually use that energy to create the ability to open a wormhole or whatever.

The island is a gateway to the core of the earth, where all underlying energy of this planet is stored. It has to exist because there needs to be something stopping that energy from coming out. It needs to be protected because in the wrong hands, the energy can leak out and destroy the world. Think of it this way: if one pocket of energy being tapped into created a split timeline (or so it would seem thus far) and all of these weird cascading time effects.. what would opening all of them do for the rest of the world?
MIB wanting to "leave the island" is just a ploy to get people on his side. He still wants the power of the island for himself, and has no intent on leaving unless the power of the island leaves with him.

The Game is Go? Black and White Stones, Jacob’s ladder and other thoughts
At this point in the series, a lot of Lostpediacs are inclined to agree that there is a “game” of cosmic proportions taking place on the island. From Season 1 on, we have been assuming that the game of backgammon might be an important metaphor (it’s one of the world’s most ancient games, opposes two players, one black and one white) for the bigger game opposing Jacob and his Nemesis. But backgammon relies too much on chance an is too simple a game to fit within the free will/determinism leitmotif of the show.

Just thought this was knid of cool. If you combine the two names then you can come up with Loki. Here are a few things from Wikipedia,
Loki is the god of mischief in Norse mythology.
LOKI refers to a family of cryptographic block ciphers.
The Shape changing God of Mischief in Scandinavian mythology, Loki is known for playing tricks on animals, humans and gods alike. As the trickster, Loki changes his own appearance to suit his needs. He plays some part in Ragnarok, the end of the world in Viking myth. For this reason he is often interpreted as a Satan figure.
I can see some similar traits going on here between the smoke monster and Loki. I am not saying that is who he is just thought it was cool. Feel free to elaborate or beat me up

I think I cracked the flash sideways. What if everything we see in season 6 flash sideways is actually the a new timeline created after the events we are currently watching unfold on the island. That is to say that Jughead did not create this timeline, but rather events that will happen at the end of season 6 on the island.

I was thinking about this line a lot (It only ends once everything else is just progress), and it made me think about another line Flocke said to Sawyer, "are you can just do nothing and see how it all plays out."
MIB said that they come fight, destory, etc. As a result the bomb was set off which resuted in the island shown at the bottom of the sea. The END!

After the last couple of episodes, I'm starting to think that Lost may end up having a similar plot to the show Carnivale. On Carnivale, there were 2 human-like beings in every generation called Avatars, one represented light and one represented dark. Ben, the creature of light, had the power to heal people which reminds me of the healing spring in the temple and the healing power of the island. Brother Justin, the creature of dark, had the power to manipulate people into doing what he wanted them to do which is alot like what the Man in Black (MIB) is doing to Sawyer, Claire, etc.

I believe the characters of Jacob and the MIB are based on the religious entities known as Ahura Mazda and Ahriman. Below are just quotes about them and then how I think they connect to Lost:

OK, we now know that MIB is "trapped", and cannot leave the island -- and that everything that we has done and manipulated over the centuries is related to his quest to be released. We also know that Jacob can leave the island, apparently at will. We also know that killing Jacob was not sufficient, in and of itself, to get MIB off the island. It seems to me that the MIB needs to recruit and have one of his "claimed" "win" or be appointed to Jacob's post, or be appointed himself somehow, so that he can change the rules, or use Jacob's powers to leave.
When MIB said to Jacob "Do you know how badly I want to kill you", and Jacob said "Yes", it was because Jacob had once been in MIB's place, and managed to usurp the previous island guardian. It also seems that MIB is lying to Sawyer -- that while he is trapped, his goal is the power. We know that the island is not just and island, and that Jacob's power is likely substantial -- and that with the power, MIB could leave when he chooses.

I remember reading an article regarding the promo spread for season 6 (the "Last Supper" pose) and different interpretations of what it could mean...the placement of the characters and so forth. I also remember it was confirmed by Damon and Carlton that they had direct involvement in the photo and everything was done on purpose. Now that we're nearly 1/4 of the way through the last ever season of Lost, I think we might be able to attribute some significance to it. Here are the photos again, for those of you who don't remember (courtesy of Lostpedia):

Ok, not sure if you will remember this but in season 4 we saw a Locke flashback. It was the one when he was actually born. The scene began with a young woman, blond, maybe 17 or 18 at the oldest and she was putting on lipstick and go out for the night. It looked like the early 50’s only because she looked like she just came off the set of Happy Days.
Her mother comes into her room and gives her a hassle about going out and that her boyfriend was twice her age. She goes on and on about how her mother cant stop her because she loves him. She runs out of the house and gets hit by a car. She wakes up in the hospital and gives birth to John prematurely. We even see Richard there checking in on John.

I believe the sideways flashes, or alt universe, as many are calling it, is EXACTLY what happens. Although throughout the seasons we have seen flash backs and flash forwards, we have never seen any part of the story which was not to be taken as factual.
Just as many viewers were confused after seeing the two minute section of the final season's opener, I too thought "What the heck is going on? Is this what would have happened? Is this a previous plane flight where they were all present?” But as the camera panned out of the plane’s cabin and into the ocean where the island was leagues below water, it occurred to me that this IS the season's finale being unveiled slowly through each episode.

This is wonderfully crafted by the creators and I believe it has relevance to the season 6 Flash Sideways. Let me explain.

For a long time I've been wondering if the Lost Bigger Game we've been shown between Jacob and MIB has some kind of simple Tic-Tac-Toe rule. I’m not trying to figure out the game itself yet, only the rules.
Reinforced by Hurley and Miles playing it in "The Lighthouse" episode, and knowing that there isn't one single of minute of film to be wasted this season, that particular scene is there for a reason: to show us that "the bigger game" has some similarities to the tic-tac-toe game.

Interesting to me when Claire told Jin that both her father AND her 'friend' told her that the Others had Aaron. We all assumed that before Locke died, MIB was using Christian's body. But Since Claire knew unLocke was MIB right away, she must have seen him before he was in lockes form. So if In fact MIB was in the form of Christan before why did she say my Father AND my friend? wouldn't she know that they were the same un-person?

There is a beginning to Lost which we have not yet seen. Aaron and David are the grand children of Christian Shephard. At some point in time in the near future they will be on a plane maybe time line X (the new time line). They will flash off the plane to ancient times on the island. But because David does not exist on the original time line, he wont be able to have a body. So he becomes the smoke monster. As people die on the island, he is able to take their form for a short while because they are no longer needed on the time line.

Imagine the finale of Lost: Jack sitting on the beach looking outwards at the peaceful ocean. He is tossing a small pebble repeatedly in the air. Jack is wearing light colored clothes, his face has a contemplative look, but you can tell he is peaceful, at last.
The camera slowly pans sideways and we see that Jack is not alone. Slowly, Sawyer emerges into view, glaring at Jack. You can see the anger and disgust in his eyes.

I theorize that Walt and Aaron will become the two most important characters on lost. It works out perfectly as they're the the least popular characters on the show. A perfect sleight of hand by the show's creators. When Jacob said "They're coming," he obviously meant them. They have to come back to the island just like everyone else had to, just not at the same time. They are the culmination of the numbers. They are 108. Most likely all the canidates will have died fighting one another, setting off a chain of events that will allow for a plane or ship with Walt and Aaron in it to crash on the island.

This theroy stems from the past two episodes dealing with the names and the numbers we have discoverd. Like a majority of the lost community I thought that the name sheperd was referring to Jack. However after the lighthouse i am very confident that the "sheperd" is not jack but his father christian. If you recall when Jack turned the dial to Sawyers name it went to the church where Sawyer was sitting out of as a kid when Jacob met him. Also when jack turned the wheel to Sun or Jin's name (not for sure which one yet) it went to the place where they got married and once again the place where they met Jacob. However....when Jack turned the dial to his name it showed the house where he grew up and not the hospital where he met Jacob. I think that house is where Jacob met Christian. So technically Jacob was never spying on Jack. I also remember that Mr. Friendly said that Jack was never on the list. (Cant remember t! he episdoe.)

the show is very yin and yang
in this philosophy yin becomes yang and visa versa in a continuous cycle like troughs becoming peaks becoming troughs from stone dropped in water or a seed growing towards the sun(yang) and then falling to the ground /decaying and the new seed starting over(yin)
so lets say flocke becomes the new jacob and the current jacob used play the role of mib - what does this explain from what we have seen

In the late author Allan Watts' splendid dissertation entitled "The Nature of Consciousness", the former Episcopal minister turned lay Hindu offers an alternative approach to the traditional Western religious myths which lie at the heart of our culture and are observed most notably by Jews, Christians, and Muslims. In this first myth, the universe and man were something made, constructed by a mysterious Patriarchal potter out of a kind of clay that the creator breathed into, hence making the inanimate figurine come to life, as it was now "informed". Mr. Watts called this the Ceramic model of the universe, and it was quite normal for a young Western child to ask its mother, "how was I made"? This belief was not shared, however, by the Chinese, or the Hindus. A young Chinese boy might not ask his mother how was I made, but rather, how did I grow? That is very different from the making process, indeed.

...of understanding what we are really seeing.
I didn't see this anywhere but I have an inclination that this is a big tell just like the scar from opening of LA X that there is no alternate reality. I'm not buying what Jack's mother said to be true even though it may actually be the reality for her. Think about how nothing is pure happenstance in this show. Using the age of 7 or 8 is important because by that age anyone would remember a traumatic event like having your appendix removed. When Jack looked in the mirror he was clearly confused but not to the point of never remembering it ever taking place just the when and how was completely unfamiliar.

I am inspired from a quote from another DarkUFO blogger called “adammr” who theorised about the meaning of the cryptic clue for the ending of Lost.
626110432547f398491fad32d6add11b
adammr wrote - “How's this for mind-blowing:We are like Jacob. We have a known end result (the code given) that we want to match. We're doing this by trying to find a phrase that produces the MD5 hash given.Jacob has a known end result (we don't know what it is) that he's trying to match. He's doing this by trying to find people who, when brought to the Island, produce the end result. We know that the Oceanic Six have numbers associated with them, and those numbers correspond to the Valenzetti equation. Jacob is somehow finding out people on earth who correspond to given numbers, brings them to the Island hoping to find his end result.I think it's possible this hash was probably produced from md5-ing a long, meaningless bunch of gibberish. Even if it contained some phrase like "oceanic 6 killed by mib to save whole world," that takes away so much of the "WHY WHY WHY" from the show. The spoiler might instead be realized when we figure out that 1) our process of matching this ! hash is akin to Jacob trying to bring people to the Island (whether his reasons are nefarious or good) and 2) nothing is irreversible.

This my view/opinion of what i think the "island" is. I apologize if anyone has mentioned this point of view before.
The island i believe is something similar to purgatory, perhaps a physical manifestation of the purgatory. A dynamic address
if you will that keeps changing its dimension in space-time continuum i.e moving throught space and time (perhaps to protect it from evil spirits). From what i understand, Purgatory is the condition or process of purification or temporary punishment in which the souls of those who die in a state of grace are made ready for Heaven.

I have a few thoughts about the group coming to the island.
1) Widmore - He has to make a reappearance before the series ends. He knew that a great war was coming based on the conversation he had with John Locke (when Locke was in the hospital after moving the island and transporting from the Orchard.) He may well turn out to be a good guy. He seems to act as if Ben may have been "claimed" by Smokey. Widmore said to Ben when Ben came night-visiting, "I know who you are and what you are..." Maybe he has somehow made a truce with Desmond. After Ben went after Penny, I could totally see Desmond and Widmore joining forces to get back to the island and take care of business. I wouldn't be surprised if they got Eloise on board with them to head back to the island.

A lot of people have argued that the S06 LA timeline (LAX-timeline) is the epilogue of Lost; a mirror of the previous timeline. Others have suggested it's what would have happened, if the Island never existed. I would like to expand their arguments, and say the LAX-timeline is the KARMIC epilogue of the Losties. Or that is to say, we're seeing a preview of the Losties in their next spiritual awakening.

First of all, I would like to say that I'm (as many of you, I guess) desperately looking for a very simple theory that will explain everything. That will be the perfect ending for a perfect series like Lost. Unfortunately, I'm not quite there.

The Problem: What in the hell happened to Jacob and MIB in the flash-sideways universe?
MIB who appears to be tied to the island (other than the appearance of Christian Shepard at the hospital) probably didn't fair so well. But Jacob likely was off the island at the '77 reality split, as he was visiting a young sawyer in '76.

I for one prescribe to the theory that the World, as connected to the Island, is on a gigantic loop. Everything that has happened through the first 5 seasons has happened before, possibly thousands of times. Jacob and MIB have moving around the pieces in different ways to try and reach a different outcome, or possibly THE outcome. The events maybe change from time to time, but certain things (i.e. the players, the island, larger events) have always stayed relatively the same.

OK, here we go...At some point on the LOST island (post-Incident?), babies cannot be both conceived and born on the island. Why? Consider that the Candidates are identified by surname, and therefore it is possible that the Candidate surnames do not identify a single person, but instead identify a lineage. Consider that almost all of the Candidate names/numbers are crossed out, except for a remaining 5 or 6.

I think that in the next episodes Jack is going to be “infected” or “claimed” and here is my theory.
in the episode 3 “what Kate does” Dogen tested Sayid passing electricity to his body with wired needles and burning him with a hot iron bar living him a scar in his belly. Dogen did this to test if Sayid is claimed by the evil spirit. the last episode lighthouse Claire show’s Jin a scar in her shoulder and she tell him that she also being tested the same way Sayid does with needles etc.. Ok let’s see jack now. In the first episode of season 6 ‘’LAX’’ Jack is in the airplane lavatory, jack feels a pain in his neck and he finds out that there is a small scar. If you look closely this scar is exactly under a vain so it seems to me that this is a scar from a needle. In the last episode ‘’lighthouse’’ jack find's out another scar this time in the left side of his belly It seems obvious that jack has the same scars with sayid, one from a needle and the other from the burn with the iron bar in his belly Clair have that scar on his shoulder and she also confi! rm about the needles. When jack meet Dogen after his conversation with Sayid Dogen explains to jack that if sayid stay’s alive the infection is going to be spread so I think in the next episodes Sayid infects jack and Dogen did the same test to jack. I don’t have a clue why jack carrying out the scars in the flash sideways and I hope someone post something in the comments.
Thank you all for reading my theory and feel free to comment and im sorry about my English Im Greek.

In this theory, we believe that everything we are seeing during the "flash-sideways" is actually a prologue to the events that occurred on the island and in the flashbacks of the first few seasons. In other words, the flashes we are seeing now are what Jacob has seen before in the mirror at the lighthouse.

After watching last night. I woke up this morning thinking about the numbers assigned to the Losties and Valenzetti's equation.
I think it is not about one person and one number, but a combination of numbers. Just like Valenzetti's equation is a theory of numbers that bring about the end of the world, the Lostie's numbers are the combination that bring about the end of "the game." It only ends once:)
Also wondering if anyone else heard whispers in the cave in episode LA X part II when Kate when off by herself and Jack was searching for her? I have listened a couple of times and feel there is something there, but noone else seems to have noticed. So maybe I am just imagining it.

LOST has always been the kind of show that you really don’t get things until thinking about the show the next day. That’s one of the things I have always liked about LOST. The episodes are usually much deeper than they appear. For me, (and I’m sure for many fans) Season 6 has been a bit of a disappointment, but that is to be expected – after all this is the Final Season and by now our expectations will likely never be met. Part of the problem is that up until now the destination (mysterious and enticing as it may be) has never been what it is all about, it has been the journey. But now, the journey is coming to an end, and the destination is in sight.

Sorry if this has been posted before I do not read these much. I have had many discussions with friends about these last few episodes and may have a few different theories. As far as the little blonde haired boy that "John Locke" aka MIB finds in the woods, would it be plausible that this could be Aaron years later? Everyone obviously feels that Aaron has a major role in Lost, so I believe they are going to have to bring him back in the spotlight somehow. Another theory about the little boy could be Jacob as a child.
There was also a split second when the MIB yelled "you can't tell me what I can't do!" (something John Locke has said many times throughout the series) Could this have something to do with some sort of weird mesh between MIB and John Locke?

As soon as last night's episode ended, it hit me why Claire needed to raised Aaron. Richard Malkin told Claire she was the only one who could raise Aaron, so we were led to believe that something bad would happen with Aaron if she didn't, but the reality of it is that something bad would happen to Claire if she didn't have her son in her life. Aaron gone from her life seems to be the driving force behind her infection. I think when Malkin saw the blurry vision, he could sense Claire being infected, and the only way to keep Claire from getting infected is for her to keep her baby!

well the answer of lost is that simple and its infront of our eyes . i think its the main idea behind the show . we have all the answers but sometimes we choose not to see it ,we choose the difficult way out ,we choose to torture our selves because we don't believe in ourselves we don't believe in our abilities and because of that we do the bad choices . and thats whats exactly happening to Jack , he didnt believe in himself in his abilities ,so he had to made or choose the wrong choices .

David Shephard is a gifted pianist, performing "Fantaisie-Impromptu in C-Sharp Minor" at his audition for candidates as seen in "The Lighthouse."
Daniel Faraday, another gifted pianist, has also been shown playing this same piece as a boy and also in '04.
If you compare the handwriting on David's Sheet Music to this song (on his desk at home) with the handwriting in Daniel's journal as seen in "The Constant," it would appear they match. Both are also written in red ink.
My theory is that Daniel Faraday is David Shephard's music teacher in the FlashSideways timeline.

From this point forward, I do not believe Jack will be able to see or talk to Jacob. He will have to put his faith in those that are able to. This is the whole point and what Jacob wants from Jack. In addition, his faith will ultimtaely be tested in some way. I think Claire and Flocke are going to capture Kate, threaten to kill Kate or Jack's other friends and force Jack to become a follower of Flocke and refuse Jacob's offer to become the new protector (which he would ultimately be infected) or Jack will have to let Kate and friend's die and make such a "sacrifice" for the island. Once this fullblooded "man of science" converts to a fullblooded "man of faith" (which I believe his decision has already been made) his spirit returns to the sideways timeline and his life is given a "second chance." Thats why he cannot remember anything prior to getting on Oceanic 815.

I have been thinking about the differences between MIB's cave and Jacob's lighthouse. For one, to get to the cave you had to "descend" down into it, crossing a path that was very perilous. As opposed to the lighthouse in which you ascended, to a place of light.
I think it is safe to say that if both MIB and Jacob are watching the castaways, then the cave is MIB's tally and the lighthouse Jacob's. Why they were regulated to them we don't know.

Season one was our introduction to all of the characters. We got to see each of them in a flashback, while their "present reality" introduced the most interesting character on the show: the Island.
Season two was about other groups of people living on the island (the Others and the Tailes), but it was largely about finding out what was in the Swan and discovering other Dharma stations -- i.e., the Island's character got deeper and more mysterious.

It would appear there are rules in place designed to keep a game in order. I believe neither the MIB or Jacob can kill any of the candidates as well kill each other. It would also seem that they cant explicitly tell the losties what to do or not to do.
Jacob seem determined to convey to Hurley the importance of Jack going to the lighthouse. Also, it seems that either Jacob has future knowledge of what losties are likely to do (perhaps because of past iterations) are he knows these people well enough from watching them what they probably would do.
I believe that Jacob knew Jacks reaction would be to smash the lighthouse mirrors. I don't have direct knowledge of what the device actually was intended for but it seems plausible that such a machine could be detrimental if the MIB could utilize it. Perhaps Jacob simply didn't want this to happen, and NUDGED Jack in his own way to do what he thought Jack was capable of doing without directly telling him and keeping the rules of free will in play.

Jack's purpose is to save his sister. This development will be central to the plot as it plays out.
Claire's experience of the Other's has only been as a threat to her (season 1 and now season 6). She is a perfect candidate for MIBs team cus he plays on one's fear and doubt. MIB nabbed her when he had the opportunity, leaving everyone to think she was dead and Kate subsequently taking Aaron (which would lead to a sad and angry Claire who could kick some ass for MIB in the final season). Claire now has every reason to hate anyone remotely associated with the Others. Aaron's significance is thus not that he is Jacob or the creepy blond kid, but that he was used as a pawn by MIB as a major move in the game.

Right, so can all be pretty sure that Flocke cannot kill candidates, thus he must enlist people to help him. Why does Flocke want the candidates dead anyway? I'm assuming that once they are all dead this will somehow free Flocke to leave the island. Sawyer is Flocke's No. 1 player in achieving his objective.

In episode 6.05 The Lighthouse, Jacob wanted Hurley to push the Lighthouse dial to 108 (the sum of all the numbers). On the dial, we saw that each of our candidates and potential candidates were assigned a degree. Turning to that degree, would reveal a view into their off-island lives through the lookingglass.
And who was assigned 108? Some person with the last name of "Wallace". I believe this is too significant a name to leave to just anyone. Who is this Wallace? People have speculated that it might be Widmore or maybe Walt, but my (albeit random) theory is that Wallace is Jacob. Jacob Wallace.

This is just a quick theroy based on what we've seen from the numbers in the lighthouse.
I dont recall seeing desmond HUME on the list, which makes me beliveve that maybe this is why he is special. maybe he is special because he doesnt have a number? he wasnt brought to the island by jacob, and thats why, as Daniel Faraday once said,: 'the rules dont apply to you desmond'
This could also be the case for walt, assuming that the dawson on the lighthouse list is micheal, then maybe walt is special aswell because he is not on the list?

He commented "the light here doesn't scatter right" which he then subsequently followed up with a bizarre experiment involving a time travelling payload. What this revealed is a kind of 'time bubble' encasing the island - what I believe to be the cause of the island's lighting problems.

So the mirror has the power to reflect distant images that are special. We'll leave it there for now.
BUT!! Does it also have the power to project Jacob or at least his image to those same places? In other words that's how Jacob was able to appear off island to the losties as kids. He stood in the lighthouse, and his image appear at the degree setting he turned the mirror to? It's not a terrible thought.

In a previous episode we saw the cave that Sawyer and Flocke visited. On the cave walls were the names of people with lines through them, as they were removed as candidates.
In the Lighthouse, we see a dial used to depict the direction of the person whose name is written on the edges of the dial. Some of those names were crossed off. Also, since the dial worked in "degrees" does that mean there could only be a maximum of 360 candidates?

Jacob keeps track of everyone everywhere because he can take the form of a bird. He called for Hurley in this shape in the seasons 1 & 2 finales. Of anyone we know, Jacob has the closest relationship with Hurley, and the bird was calling Hurley's name...

I've been mulling this one for a while, and forgive me if it is totally off base after the airing of Episode 5. I am in Australia, so Ep 4 has just aired.
The two timelines are an example of "Schrodinger's Cat" by secret lost fan

I think the two timelines are an example of the paradox of Schroedinger's cat. In Quantum Physics, Schroeding perfoms a thought experiment where he places a cat in a box with two bowls of food. The cat can choose which bowl to eat from, but can only eat from one of them. The question is: without opening the box, is the cat alive or dead. Schroedinger concludes that while the box is still closed, the cat is both alive AND dead. It is by the act of observation (e.g., opening the box) that forces the cat to choose one reality or another.

Okay so this is all very fresh in my mind and still may have some holes but here it is: I think the candidates can CREATE whatever they WILL on the island. This is the magic box that Ben spoke about to Locke in seasons back (but I'll get to that later). In tonight's episode "The Lighthouse" Jack asked, "Why have we never seen this before" when speaking of the Lighthouse. Hurley answered "Maybe because we have never looked for it."

I've posted a couple of theories on her that propose that the island being underwater is not the result of Jughead, that we will see how the island is submerged later this season, and that the off-island flashes we are seeing are actually the show's epilogue.

Locke Was Going To Be The Leader Of The Others Until He Failed by boxman4815

I have an idea that I think is really good but kind of far out. SO, do you remember back to the season 4 episode Cabin Fever? and how Richard went to young Locke with the four or so items (comic, knife, compass, etc.) which is much like how the selection of the next dalhi lama happens Well I think that meeting of the two of them was the selection process for the job that Dogen has now. That being said, I beleive that after (or before) the failed attempt to recruit John for the position, Richard tryed another candidate for the same job. That person being a young Dogen. He brought him the items, one of which being the baseball that we see in the episode What Kate Does. He chose correctly, got the job/position, and kept the baseball as a momento of how he came to be the leader of the Templies (new name for the Others in the temple). Well, thats my theory. Let me know what you think.

This is probably going to step on some toes as I'm sure this has been covered before. Well, at least the Hurley Bird part, but I think I've got it. Sorry if it seems like I'm stealing someone else's theory. Here goes...
I was watching season 2 last night and saw something I never caught before. Do you remember the giant bird that yelled Hurley's name as it flew overhead and Michael almost shot it? Well I know where it came from.

This just sprung up in my mind, but it fits nicely with the whole mystery of the ancient culture, pregnancy problems, the nature of the island and the rivalry between Jacob & MIB.
So lets say there's an ancient culture and they erect statues to themselves or their god. Of course there is a
