Locke is and always has been MIB - they are one and the same. Back in one of Locke's flashbacks, it was said that Locke was emmacuately conceived - this seems to not have been true since Anthony Cooper was introduced as Locke's conman dad, but what if Cooper was just bluffing all along and Locke was born magically? i think that Jacob somehow killed MIB, but MIB's consciousness was transfered into Locke's. This explains Locke's mysterious knowledge of things back in the early seasons - his drawing of the smoke monster as a child, his knowledge of the weather, etc. - familiar surroundings brought back dormant memories. Once Locke 'died' and came back to the island, the electromagnetism of the island ressurected MIB, who now remembers everything. That is why Locke says to Ben that Jacob and him met 'in a manner of speaking' - since MIB has never really met Jacob as Locke, except that one time when Jacob touched him ! after his fall. If you look at that episode, Locke has a really strange look on his face as that happened, as though he knew Jacob already. This also accounts for Locke making promises to Sun to help her with Jin, and telling her that he is the same man he always was - because he is, and he truly wants to help her as he grew fond of her and the other castaways during his time as Locke.

I think I've figured out the mythology of the show guys. I really hope I haven't, because I love to be surprised, but it makes sense. This theory is about mythology only, and mainly MIB and Jacob, so theories dealing with characters will be dealt with some other time.

Everyone on the Island has daddy issues. Many have been the cause of daddy issues in others. So why not Jacob and the Man in Black? If Ben and Widmore echo Jacob and the MIB, then I'm guessing there's another parallel---daughters.
I think Kate and Juliet are the daughters of Jacob and the Man in Black.

I haven’t been looking at the theories for very long, so this may be a rehash of someone else’s theory. Sorry if that happens, it is not intended! But I wanted to get into the spirit of the game, and come up with a ‘theory’ of my own. So here goes:

Your Name
Theory Hey guys. Just thought I'd drop in and try and offer up some answers to some of the bigger mysteries of the show "Lost".
Note: This is a work of fiction. Purely inteded to be just a little bit of fun; a collection of thoughts and ideas of what the answers might be, when and if the answers should be revealed.
Thanks in advance to those who's theories appear here. Credit where credit's due. You know who you are.
JACOB & MIB
Jacob and MIB represent neither good nor evil, but rather free will and fate, respectively. Collectively, they represent that age-old question; is there such a thing as choice?
Now, the key to unravelling Lost's great mysteries is to answer ONE, and all other mysteries will fall into place. So here we go...
CERBERUS, A.K.A. THE "SMOKE MONSTER", A.K.A. "SMOKIE"
During this, we may refer to the Smoke Monster as Cerberus since this is the only name, as used by Dharma, that will ever be applied to the character.
Now, to confirm one fact which has been suspected since the season 5 finale, MIB IS the Smoke Monster.
Smokie, or Cerberus, is what is known as a "fourth-dimension-being", an entity that exists on a plane not attainable by human perception. He is a victim of a trans-dimension shift caused by the Island's mysterious properties after a volcano eruption that, in turn, caused him to become trapped in our dimension many, many years ago.
Stranded along with Smokie came with him, a highly-evolved race of humanoids whom took refuge in the then, unfamiliar floura and fourna of what, we know, as the Island. Alone, afraid and unfamiliar with their new alien home, this race of people were forced to begin life a new.
Later, some of these people would choose to leave the Island and begin a civilization of their own. This ancient race of people would become known as the Egyptians.
The true name of these ancient peoples, of the Smoke Monster along with the name of their true home (dimension) isn't known, nor will it ever be. What is known, however, is that in their world, Cerberus, a.k.a. Smokie, co-existed with these hyper-evolved humanoids, a.k.a. the Others, as their servants.
Unfortunately for the Others, in this world, they are without an essential piece of their technology which allows them the ability to control Cerberus, and thus becoming, in an ironic shift of power, their master.
The Others would make drawings in the form of hyroglyphs; warnings to others who might find the Island and try to take it for their own.
Now, despite the fact that Cerberus would be worshiped as a God, the rule of a God is not what he desires. Instead, his only goal is to return home. And so, Cerberus set the Others about creating a machine, utilizing the Islands special properties, that could do just that very thing. This machine became the Frozen Donkey Wheel. The problem was, the wheel was highly inacurate and unstable and ultimately, was sealed away never to be used again.
Efforts immediately began on creating a better, more acurate machine capable of doing what was required. But it was then that something happened which Cerberus did not like -- Humans started to find the Island. Inexplicably, more and more of them began to appear and to the most displeasure of Cerberus, since he couldn't fathom just how it was that they were finding the Island. That is, until he began to hear the name Jacob, spoken, in hushed whispers, by those that had arrived.
Ironically, at one time, Jacob was as much a mystery to Cerberus (Smokie) as he is to our Losties.
It wasn't long, however, before he was discovered. But Cerberus was surpised to learn that Jacob was just a mere mortal human. Where he was from and how he got to the Island in the first place, he did not know. What Cerberus did discover is that he could not "see" Jacob's "life-stream". Your life-stream is like a river of time; a map of all the actions of your past, and your pre-determined future based on those actions. And because Cerberus could not see Jacob's life-stream, he could not kill him. The taking of a life is governed by a strict set of laws from Cerberus' home world that must be adhered to. If those laws were broken, Cerberus would never be allowed to return home.
Another thing Smokie learned is that Jacob seemed to have a mission of his own. Unfortunately for Smokie, that mission involved people coming to his Island, engaging in petty squabbles with the Others and thus disrupting the making of the machine that would send Cerberus home. So, where Jacob would medal with Smokie's plans, Cerberus would medal with Jacob's. And from then on, anyone brought to the Island whether by Jacob or otherwise would be subjected to Cerberus' laws and punishment. And so, a great conflict was born between both Cerberus and Jacob. A conflict that would spand a great many years...
JACOB
So, if we take a moment now and switch to Jacob...
Jacob is Aaron from the future under a different name to protect his identity as a child on the Island.
Jacob's goal is to prevent the self destruction of all human life on this earth by Nuclear weaponry.
Jacob is aware of this great doom via a numerical calculation known as the Valenzetti Equation, discovered some time in the 60's and later proven correct some time in the early part of the new millenium.
This mathematical equation is presented as a series of numbers who's outcome represents the date of Man's own destruction on this earth.
The goal is to change each of the equations core values (the numbers) and thus change the outcome.
But in order to do this, Jacob needs people to help him. He also needs the help of our trans-dimensional beings; the Others, and Smokie himself.
For the longest time, Jacob and his faction of Others have kept their mission a secret from Smokie since helping them save the world of a petty, corrupted power-hungry race, knowing of his lack of faith in humanity, would be the least of his concern.
Soon, all the Others were allied with Jacob and it became apperent to Cerberus, that if he is to have any hope of returning home, Jacob must be killed, he must take back his people, and if they won't join him willingly, they must be manipulate into doing his will.
To be continued...

MIB is representative of evil. (evidenced by his dark garb and antagonistic relationship to Jacob) The show draws heavily on religious (mostly biblical) themes, and those of Egyptian Mythology. I beleive personally, that Jacob is remniscent of the God, OSIRIS, for mutliple reasons, ranging from the fact that in mythology Osiris is a God who dies and is later ressurrected. Much like Jesus Christ died on the cross, of whom I also believe Jacob is representative of.

Hopefully no one has posted this, but I was just watching Tale of Two Cities and it seems Jack has been manipulated before. First off, earlier Jack thought he did not save Sarah and went stadium running with Desmond. Jack comes back to the hospital to break the news to Sarah that she can't walk, yet she is healed. Sounds like Jacob to me.

I want you to look at lost from a different perspective. Imagine everything is fine, nothing is wrong, because the bomb worked. The plane never crashed, the incident has been neutrilized.
Season Six moves foward and shows what we all perceive as a new reality, in which everything is fixed, everything is happy and they lived, happily ever after.

First of all, a goddess of fertility should look fertile. Every early civilization greatly exaggerated the fertile female body, regardless of that group of people's location or culture. Women were depicted with rotund bellies, ample amounts of body fat (seen then as desireable, a refelction of wealth and duh... fertility.) and full, sagging breasts meant to reflect their capability to nourish and raise the child. . Based on these facts alone, it should refute the statue's identity.

We are anticipating the possibility of a terrible or outrageous ending. You know, like Dallas. So, whatever the ending is, this is my theory on how the ending will be if the writers truly do want to screw us over. This was created by me and my friend B-Will.
I think Jack & Claire will discover they are half-siblings then Claire will die at the proverbial hands of Smokey. Jack will stand up to Smokey as Mr. Echo did and then Frank Lapidus will figure out how to control Smokey to take down Esau/Locke.

Before you read this theory, you must understand the following
The producers have explicitly stated the following 3 paraphrased items in various interviews/podcasts :
1 - time travel is not a factor in this show.
Time travel has become a major factor in this show.
2 - alternate dimensions/timelines are not a factor in this show.
Alternate dimensions/timelines are likely a major factor in Season Six.
3 - nanobots (microscopic robot colonies) are not a factor in this show.
At this point, we can believe nothing the producers say.

Sorry if this has popped up elsewhere, but it's hard to monitor every post. After rewatching S1 again, I have to see what people think about this.
First of all, we know that things have happened to Locke that we haven't yet seen from Season 1. The result of the encounter with Smokie being the most obvious. So...just how much does Locke know at this point?

I know that almost everyone would agree that the island is special or that it has special qualities. Why? What is so important or special about the island? Why does it need to be protected? What if an ancient race (Perhaps Egyptians)figured out how to travel through time? What if they discovered their own (or the)garden of Eden. It is possible that a story, even if biblical could actually exist. It is not beyond comprehension. Ancient cultures made many advanced discoveries during their time. What if they were able to figure out when this particular island would go through a place similar to the Bermuda triangle. Then some how or some way the caught a ride to another time. I mean for the Island's inhabitants. What if the island does not travel through time at all and only certain visitors do. I am not sure if being touched by someone "in touch" with the islands abilities would mean that you are now a! permanent resident of the island. It could mean that you now have a connection with the island that spans time and space. Therefore, if the island is an Eden, was discovered by an ancient (Egyptian) culture, and can enable us to travel to other times what if the island is a door to what is beyond this life. It is a chance to test all of the various possibilities that could have happened in life. What if there is no such thing as death and we just live out all of the various possibilities. I assume that it would be more complicated than this, but it is an attempt.

Do any of you remember the Star Trek movie in which Spock placed his soul in safekeeping with Dr. McCoy? In so doing, Spock set up the possibility for his soul/his being to be regenerated.

My best guess at what's going on is this...
Nobody was ever supposed to come to the Island. Ever. Essentially season 1 through 5 has been showing the audience a reality/timeline/universe that could exist, but that isn’t supposed to. From what we have already learned, Jacob has been bringing people to the Island for a long time (every one from the ancient Egyptians to the survivors of Ajira 316) in order to defeat his Nemesis. I believe that both Jacob and his Nemesis have seen what the end will hold for the Island - they both know the end game. By gathering up these people, by bringing people to the Island, Jacob has been trying to derail the REAL end in order to “prove his Nemesis wrong”. In doing so, Jacob has effectively created a different reality/timeline/universe that we have been watching since season 1 – again, a reality that could exist but is not supposed to. In my opinion, four sentences from their dialogue lead to me the above mentioned conclusion:

Kate Austen is a perplexing character. At times she seems to be a tough, tomboy-like girl. At others, she seems totally indecisive. I've seen some comments on this site that have stated that LOST has ruined her character - even some comments arguing that she should die! I used to think her character had been ruined by the love triangle as well, but now I'm beginning to think differently.
Let's go through Kate's life and do an analysis.

What we know about Claire:
1. She loves Aaron very, very much
2. At some point before the Freighter arrives, she is woken up in the night by her dead father (strongly suspected to be the Man In Black).
3. At some point in the night, she took off with him, abandoning her son (I think this is outrageously out-of-character behaviour from Claire).
4. We later find her in the Cabin, again with Christian when Locke comes to see "Jacob". She is acting extremely weird at this time.

I have just finished watching Season 1 and it occured to me that Locke seems to change from one personality to another. After seeing what I presume to be the smoke monster at the beginning of season 1 he begins to act as though he is one with the island and starts to tell people what they are supposed to do. He told Jack to keep following what he was looking for(his father's ghost). That led Jack to find the caves and the much needed source of water. He seemed to know what Walts gift was or at least he knew he was special to some degree. Locke also led Charlie down the path to beating his heroin addiction by leading him to his guitar and so on and so forth.

I think the key to the Smoke Monster and to MIB is to trace everything that the character has done so far. Since we pretty much know that they are one in the same, we have to start from season 1 and view the actions that have taken place thoroughly. All along we were suspicious as to why Locke and the Smoke Monster always pretty much got along. MIB was behind the scenes playing him all along.

When Jacob’s dying words are uttered---They’re coming!---many theorized who they were. I’m uncertain if this theory was presented but I'm guessing that the "They" isn't anyone we already know.
If we think to all of the seasons of LOST, we see that we get 2-3 new “groups” of people each season to interact with our original LOSTies. Of course, we get a bunch of characters through flashbacks, forwards, etc but usually 2-3 new groups move the story forward each season.

Jacob is indeed the bad guy, here are my reasons:
(a)When he visited Kate as a kid and paid for here stolen box, he took away the chance for Kate to be punished for her crimes. This led her to a life as a criminal/fugitive.
(b)When he visited Sawyer as a boy, he helped him finish his letter. That letter kept him angry for his entire life.

This theory is based on previous loop theories. I think the loop theory is important and relevant due to the Dark Tower series and it's importance to the writers(sorry for being brief, but I have a lot of mind vomit to get through ;) ). I propose that Daniel Faraday is Roland from that series and instead of a horn, he needs the journal to complete his quest. We have all thought for awhile that Desmond was the one who could change things, but I feel that Desmond is a constant. He cannot change anything and if he did it would be the end of all.

Ok, here is a theory that goes against most of the recent theories about smokie being the MIB that I've read here. If its been put out-there before, then I apologize, because I haven't seen it.
If you accept, that what happened, happened (a position that I'm on the fence about), then you could come to the view that Juliet is the smoke monster (and the MIB is not necessarily smokie), as a result of the incident. My theory is that the incident caused Juliet to fuse with the drill, crane, chains and other things pulled to the pocket of energy. Juliet's intelligence somehow fused with these things, the H-bomb and exotic energy/matter to become the smoke monster. This could also be considered the last "birth" on the island, and no one could be born on island thereafter.

I still believe (I've posted this several times and places before) that at the end of The Incident the bomb does not explode....I think on the other side of the island (after Richard knocked out Eloise and Jack and Sayid leave) Eloise turns the FDW--moving the island. Listen to the weird sound right at the end of the ep. Sounds like the sound made when the sky "turns purple." Thus, why Eloise is off the island and later gives birth to Daniel in America (kids have the accent of where they are raised, not the accent of the parents). Also why, Widmore is later ousted from the island for having a relationship/family (maybe even Penny) with Eloise--an Other. If you're off the island--you'd be an Other. Also, explains her interest in the island and her need for the elaborate Lamppost...she is a former leader and they all seem to want to return after turning the wheel. Plus, she may want to prevent killing or rectify ki! lling Daniel.

In recent season 1 rewatches, I have noticed a strange thing with Locke. In "Walkabout," Locke is hunting boars and is startled by the smoke monster. At this time, this is the first instance of Locke actually seeing the smoke monster - not just seeing, but staring right into it.

Greetings all…I’ve been lurking on this site since season 3 and DarkUFO by far has the best Lost theories on the net, so I figured I’d give it a go…
So far the major players have been Jacob and MIB, we have not got confirmation on whether or not Christian is a manifestation of MIB or exactly who the man in the cabin is.

This is a pretty small theory, but it hit me so I thought I'll put it here..I'm sure someones already come up with this theory..but here goes:
Kelvin Inman worked with Sayid back during the Gulf war, then later he worked with Radzinsky in the Swan station..he must have had a picture of Sayid or something....at some point Radzinsky sees this picture, recognizes Sayid and asks Kelvin about him..Kelvin goes on to explain how he knows Sayid..and how all this happened in the mid 90s...Radzinsky puts the dots together and realizes that Sayid WAS from the future..at this point I think the Purge has already happened..Radzinzky remembers the stuff Sayid had said during their torture session, and this realization along with the isolation drives him to put a shotgun in his mouth and blow his head out...
Once again, if someones already come up with this theory I apologize

If this theory has been posted before I apologize, but after watching the exchange between MiB and Jacob I am convinced their roles are reversed. Before I begin this theory I must clarify that I believe MiB is the smoke monster. It is clear he was using the cabin and not Jacob, and when Ilana approaches the cabin one of her companions yells “look at the ash” which is the smoke of the smoke monster. Based on this and other clues I believe MiB is the smoke monster.

The explosion of the hydrogen bomb does indeed reset time, but not in the way that Jack, Daniel or anyone else imagined.
They thought the only change would be a singular chain of events: The incident doesn't happen, therefore the Swan is never built, therefore Desmond never crashes the plane. As a result, the only consequence is that everyone lands safely at LAX.

I think Daniel Faraday was marked for death, and both of his parents knew it. If Widmore hadn't sent Daniel to the Island, Daniel would've been hit by a car, shot in a convenience store holdup, etc. The universe would've course-corrected.
So who's Daniel's only hope? Desmond Hume, the most unique man in the universe. Only he has the ability to embody paradox (as we saw in the Daniel-knocking-at-the-hatch scene, plus the many times Desmond prevented Charlie's death). Only Desmond has the ability to rescue Daniel from a timeloop that invariably ends with his death.

Ok so i've seen a lot of thoeries out there saying that Christian is the MIB, but i also see a lot of people referencing that Locke is the MIB. I agree that the MIB is taking over someone's body, most likely Locke, but I dont see how he can take over 2 bodies at the same time? So that leaves us with 3 main mythological characters for LOST, MIB Christian, MIB Locke, and Jacob.

Apologies if this has been said before, yada, yada...
Like in the movie Groundhog Day (Feb 2nd, no coincidence) the loop has had several iterations. MIB has tried to change circumstances each time to finally get to his desired outcome. Like a game of chess, but once you lose you get another go, and do things slightly differently.

I forgot the specifics of it and I don't remember if it talked about Richard in particular or just lumped him in with the other Others. If whoever wrote that reads this let me know.

I came up with this after we had discussed the things behind the work of Vergil, the Aeneïs, in Latin class. We have also seen a part of the Iliad in Greek class, and soon the Odysseia, but this will mostly talk about the comparison between Lost and the Aeneïs.
(I will only shortly tell what's it about, so maybe you better read some stuff about Vergilius (Vergil in English) and the Aeneïs on wikipedia :)

This is because they are the same person, Aaron, but from different parallel universes/dimensions/times. One is dark, one is light.

The flash we see at the end of season 5 was a time flash and the bomb doesn't go off. The new way the writers of lost will tell the story will be what happens after 815 lands safely. But just like when Desmond does not have the memory of talking to Daniel Faraday until Daniel speaks to him in Daniel's "time line" they will show us later in season 6 that Desmond for some reason(because he is special)Desmond's consciousness(or physically)travels back to 2004 and does push the button the day 815 fly's through the island "window".

I will also give the disclaimer that I do not know if these ideas have been theorized before, so all credit is due to the original originator. This is also my second theory; I don’t even know where my first theory went to on the site. Feel free to like, dislike, slam, skew, reflect, appreciate or unload on this theory. Many people have brought attention to some re-occurring themes in lost (daddy issues, light vs. dark, good/evil) and this made me think of another that I haven't seen anyone post. Irony. There have been some very ironic situations happen in these first 5 seasons. Ben is held prisoner in the hatch, then they become his prisoners. Sayid works for Ben and eventually comes to despise the person that Ben is, when actually Sayid is responsible for making him that way. Jack gave Locke so much crap about his destiny talk for 4 seasons, then Jack joins the destiny side too. In season 3 Jack helps Sawyer by saving Ben and he does it for Kate, then in season 5 Sawyer helps Kate by saving Ben and he does it for Juliet. These are just a few. Then I was thinking about what effect did the h-bomb have and what could make this situation ironic. What if all the losties from '77 prevent the 815 crash but only them (Jack, Kate, Sawy! er, Jin, and Hurley) are returned to 815, leaving Sun and Locke (or as far as they know just Sun) on the island in 2007. Then the 77ers have to go back again to save Sun. To be honest I think this is very unlikely and maybe even a stupid idea but then again most of these theories are pretty out there. Just a fun thought.

OK so, this is a pretty simple theory I think, so I'm sure someone has already discussed it but if not here goes:
This relates to the whole time loop thing, which I think does exist. Just by going back in time they create a time loop where whatever happened in 1977 while they were in 2000-ish was in the past but now that they are in 1977 that is their present and 2000 is in the future. I also think this time loop is exactly what MIB was talking about when he said he was going to find a loop hole to kill Jacob. (I know other people have mentioned this but my theory builds off of this)...

Me and my buddy were talking about this and it seemed to make a lot of sense. So in season five we learn that Jacob has visited many of the key survivors throughout their lifetimes, clearly he has the ability to be anywhere at anytime, and knows that these characters will one day play an important roll in the future of the island. If Jacob has this ability then what ability does MIB have? I believe he has the ability to assume the identity of anybody. Throughout the show we are faced with a recuring theme, the return of dead individuals.

So I've been reading a lot of theories that deal with time loops, paradoxes, and all sorts of craziness of that nature. A lot of these theories point to the Richard's compass as an object that is stuck in a paradoxal loop, since Richard gives it to Locke in 2007 who then gives it to Richard in 1954. "Where does the compass originate from?" seems to be a pretty common question.

Alright no intro let's get to the fun stuff:
1) There was a time when I was convinced the bomb went off... I'm now not so sure HOWEVER we will see an ALT reality in season 6, effectively killing any semblance of WHH. There is not much proof of this to date, simply a gut feeling I have. Consider the following points:

This theory presumes that the plane lands safely in L.A. and there is an alt time line presented. If an alt time line is presented, I believe that it will in fact be the original time line for these characters, and everything we have seen play out in seasons 1 to 5 is in fact an alt time line that is the result of Jacob/MIB manipulating events, from who got on the plane, to the crash, to the time skipping, to the six getting off the island, to the five coming back, to the nuke, etc. One example of how this worked - Sawyer was writing his revenge letter and only finished it because Jacob gave him a pen. Without that pen, the letter would not have been finished. Sawyer carried that letter around and became a source of obssession for his revenge. This undoubtedly framed his entire existence, and ultimately was the reason he got on that plane. Take Jacob out of the equation, Sawyer's life would be very differe! nt.

I've rewatched season 1 like 3 times now and everytime I am bothered by the sudden appearance of Locke's Drug. The first time we see it is when Locke smears it on Boone's head right before Boone hallucinates Shannon's death. The vision is so real Boone tries to kill Locke until he realizes Locke drugged him and Locke says "Is that what it made you see?" I assume this is the same concoction he used in "Further Instructions" to get his sweat lodge vision.

- Kate steals throughout her whole life and goes off the rails, getting in trouble with the law, mindlessy killing the wrong person when she tries to murder her father, which results in her being taken into custody and aboard 815 and eventually landing in jail
- Sawyer doesn’t write his letter and grows up with a conviction to right the wrongs done to his parents and becomes a cop.
- Sayid is reunited with his love Nadia after they find each other in Los Angeles after 815 and live a happy life.
- Locke is pushed out of an eight story window by his father and breaks his back, living a miserable life
- Sun and Jin live their lives in turmoil and Sun leaves him at the airport

So i have this theory that Horace and Amy are, and have always been Hostiles/Others on the island. Lets start it off with my list of theories/reasons for this.
1. Locke had a dream in "Cabin Fever" with Horace Cutting down a tree over and over while he built a cabin for himself in the middle of the woods. He told Locke, basically, that it was for vacation away from the Dharma initiative. BUT Horace also told him he needs to find Horace (the dead body) to find Jacob. The Dharma folks had no idea who Jacob was. At least there were no clues towards that notion in season five in the 70s.

So i have been doing the epic re-watch of the entire series of lost and stumbled across a few holes in the continuity in season 5. The questions i came up with led me to some theories about season 6 which aren't game-ending theories but interesting none-the-less.
Anyways, Daniel Faraday, his journal, and his return to the island (if you consider him in 1977 before when he arrives in 2004) is very intriguing when you follow his actions when the time flashes start. heres a list of my thoughts, MOST OF THEM OCCURING during the episode, "Jughead" (if you actually want to see what i'm talking about).

I'm not sure if this has been submitted as proof of anything but here it goes...
So I was reading the transcript of the May 21, 2008 official lost podcast and a couple of things stood out to me. I'm sure most of you have listened to Damon and Carlton on the ABC podcasts, so you know that the whimsical and sarcastic tone they use throughout makes it hard to decipher exactly what is fact and what is fiction. But it is very interesting when you take the audio out of the picture and read only the transcripts. This particular podcast is the famous one that Darlton confirms that Yemi is the monster. The entire transcript is an entertaining read, but it's the end that caught my eye.

I have a really interesting theory for Walt's role on season 6. Now I'm not sure if anyone has posted this theory already and if so I'm sorry. I was thinking about how Walt would be able to get back to the island. As Lost fans, he has to go back. I was thinking Widmore would convince Desmond and Walt to come back with him to the island. Because as we all know Widmore seems to have a great knowledge of those who left. I'm not sure how he would convince Desmond. But for Walt, he would probably tell him that his father has died on the island and that Walt would avenge his father by going back. NOW maybe Widmore knows how special Walt is and that is why it is utterly important for him to return. Once they do return, Widmore will take him to The Temple or some Other spot we haven't seen yet. Once he does Walt would use his special powers to revive everyone who died on the island in order to fight for the WAR that Widm! ore has stated in "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham". That will be epic I must say.
Side note: It will be really epic if they cue the last few minutes from the music track of Season 4's "Bobbing for Freighters". EPIC song right there.

Just a random thought. I think there were three separate forces involved in getting the six to come back: MIB, Ben, and Jacob.
MIB didn't really have any designs on getting the six back. He wanted Ben and dead Locke to come back so that he could manipulate Ben to kill Jacob. He told Locke he had to bring them all back because he knew Ben was watching them, that Ben would thus discover Locke on the mainland, and that if Locke failed in his mission to convince the six to come back, he would be willing to kill himself if he believed it was the only way. Locke has been pawned all along by MIB to believe that he is special and a chosen leader for the island. This was how he was able to use Locke's "resurrection" to convince Ben to kill Jacob because in Ben's mind, he was the one being pawned and used all along. The same island that gave him cancer resurrected Locke - talk about feeling betrayed. I thought of this possibility because when Flocke is told by Caesar that he saw Hurley and the others disappear, he genuinely appeared puzzled and became intent on getting the passenger list - it was as though he! didn't expect it the others to actually be on the plane.

I believe that a reset of events during season six is simply not plausible. Removing 5 seasons of events would anger fans (so producers won't do it) and create a rushed and chaotic final season. Yet the clues and hints from the finale and from online videos lead one to believe the alternate reality scenario is imminent.

As season 6 picks up the bomb will detonate and we will think that events have now been reset as we may very well see Jack and company back on Oceanic 815 safely landing at LAX. However, I believe what we will see is really what was supposed to occur. Seasons 1-5 occurred only because Jacob and others tried to change what was to happen.

Hello everyone! This is my first theory on this wonderful website. My theory is, What if Jacob and MIB were on the oceanic flight 815? what if (for some reason) jacob and MIB were sitting on the very same plane and right before they crashed, they were seperated in time from the rest of everyone else.(just like kate, hurley, jack etc on ajira) and so jacob & MIB flashed to the very begining times of the island and settled there. thus making statues and crazy heiroglyphics due to boredom. and then jacob figures out a way to bring people to the island to experiment and see if the people he brings there can adapt just like he did. MIB doesnt like this very much. so he conjures up schemes and so forth just so he can prove jacob wrong and they could have the island to themselves. but what i think will happen is this, by jacob experimenting with bringing people to the island, HE's the one that brought HIMSELF to the isl! and along with everyone else...sorry for the rambling..and yes i know theres ALOT of holes in this theory. but it could happen!

In 1977, a hydrogen bomb was detonated by Juliet. The question arose: did this event changed the future preventing the losties from crashing in 2004 or was this event the incident all along.
I re-watched season 5 episode Namaste. During the scene where Lapidas was making the emergency landing, the co-pilot radioed a mayday. The response on the radio was "15 16".

Seems much more in character of this pretty "new" character to use slightly more eloquent means. Did he come across to you sitting on that beach as someone that goes start raving mad through the jungle, lifting up trees, and causing general unrest? If MIB is also the false Jacob, then there's evidence there of him using manipulation to further his goals.

First off, this may not be an original thought. So, I apologize if I am repeating another's observations. However, I have not read this theory before. So, here goes: I think the major difference between Jacob and MIB/Smokey is centered on judgment. Jacob is very non-judgmental. He never says anyone or anything is good or bad. It is MIB/Smokey doing the judging—of mankind, of those who come to the island, of Ben.

So after watching a lot of the earlier episodes again, I realized that Locke was a strange character much earlier on than I thought he was the first time through. Almost from the beginning he seems to know things, he expects the island to be able to guide him. As others have pointed out in other theories, he seems to be around when Christian or Smokey is on so on.

After watching all of the seasons back to back, there are 3 main themes that stick out. 1) Parental issues, especially with dads. 2) Religion 3) Biblical names.
This leads me to believe that Jacob is the Jacob from the bible, and the others are part of the lost tribes of Israel, while the Island is the Land of Goshen from the bible.

I have never posted or commented before, because, well, I used the Lost Theories app on my iPhone mostly, and that app doesn't allow you to read or post comments, or post your own theories. A fix here would be nice. Does anyone else use this app? Anyway...
This theory is based off of ideas that I share with Michael Aaron, which he posted at http://theoriesonlost.blogspot.com/2010/01/preserving-loop-vs-ending-loop-stakes.html (it is very well written, I might add). I highly suggest reading it now, if you haven't done so, as I believe it is almost spot-on and can explain the Time Loop ideas way better than I could.

My humble theory, collectivelly constructed for sure, is about the two major Station: Swan and Orchid.
Well, I believe that the DonkeyWheel is a device that exists to move the ISLAND in time in order to protect it from destruction. When Ben turns it, the ISLAND skips in time, not the Losties. When the island moves from one specific time to another, it creates an alternate version of the Losties (remember Sawyer watching Aaron`s birth) in a different time. Locke turns it, and the island stops at 1974. I couldn`t figure out why these especific characters moves with the island, and other inhabitants don`t, but my guess is that is linked to the fact that they are from the future (2007).

I’ve heard many Locke was always Flocke theories before, but none like this. Forgive me if you have heard it in this manner before, but I believe that Smokey has an ability to partially control alive characters throughout the show and also the full ability to control them once he has their bodies. I believe that Smokey is able to influence certain living people, but they have no notion that he is controlling them or any idea that their actions are not their own.

What makes a good story? Does a good story always have a simple message or a moral imperative? It catches our attention for some reason or another, and our curiosity draws us into its depths. Most of us are drawn to some stories as opposed to others because we are looking for justification. We simply want to reaffirm ideas that we already had. Some of us want to travel away to a time in the past where everything is familiar and everything makes sense. Some of us want to believe that the message of that story has an element of eternal truth.

I wanted to take a peek at season 1 again before the season 6 premiere and something struck me about the first few episodes. From the moment Jack opens his eye, it seems as if he has an idea of what is happening (runs directly to the crash site and treats specific passengers, saves Claire/Hurley, seemingly not afraid during the crash or during first run-in with the "monster"). Am I crazy or has anyone noticed this. I've only rewatched the first 3 episodes, but it still feels like Jack knows something about what is happening.

In the season premiere of LOST, season six, i believe the survivors will wake up in 2004. But it will be days before 815 takes off. The survivors who were touched by Jacob have full memory of what happened, and those who weren't have no memory at all. The survivors must make a choice: Whether to board Oceanic 815 knowing full well that it would crash, or to go on living their normal lives.

Back in Season 4, the Losties split into two camps based on what was (seemingly) incompatible ideas: Jack's camp believed the Freighter Folk wanted to help them, Locke's camp believed the Freighter Folk wanted to kill them. But as we saw, both camps were right: Daniel's 'group' wanted to help them and Keamey's team wanted to kill them. Both Locke and Jack were correct, from a certain point of view.

The big mystery is still the Jacob / "Esau" origin concept.

Right first time theory poster, long time theory reader. I’ve been casting my eye over many theories lately and I want to add one of mine to the long list, and I’ll try not to ramble too much.
So the main talking point for a long while now has been WHH vs. ALT, what will happen in season 6 now Jughead went off. Will it change anything, or have our beloved losties caused the incident they were trying to prevent? I actually think it’s both, let me try and explain.

Now i usually only read spoilers...dont really have time to look at theories, but i had the time today and saw a bunch of loop theories. I only got to read a couple so i can only speculate on the few iv read so forgive me if i get some details wrong.

Now the biggest actual family in Lost starts with Charles Widmore and Eloise Hawking (both former Others)and their two children Daniel Faraday and Penelope Widmore

My theory is that Jack is the Jesus figure on the Island and not John Locke. In the first episode where Jack opens his eyes in the Jungle he is flat on his back clenching and unclenching his hands (crucifiction), when the camera pans out there are two pieces of twig near him laid out like a cross, he is surrounded by a circle of bamboo (crown of thorns) and also has a wound in his side that Kate stitches up later. On the latest LOST last supper pictures Jack is standing in front of a piece of pipe with some other piece of wood in the background intersecting it, looking like he is stood in front of a cross.

Forgive me if this logic has been worked out somewhere before, but I was trying to figure what exactly pulled Jack, Kate, Sayid, and Hurley off flight 316. This is probably as best an accurate placement of when we can assume at this time, but still leaves the questions why those four and why the rest of the flight went somewhere else.

I was researching up Randomness. technically everything given enough information can be predicted. if we (somehow) find out all the information about the big band, then we could map out where all the atoms would have gone, and thus have the ability to map out the entire universe.
in the theory of alt timelines, they only exist due to choice. but what is choice, a bunch of chemical reactions in our brain (think, the matrix) so technically you could predict what someone would do if you knew everything that happened in their brain.
so theoretically randomness doesnt exist (in a sense)

This is not a WHH theory first off. I for one am leaning towards and ALT along theory, but that doesn't dismiss what have to say here.
That is that this notion that any changes made in '77 somehow created a new timeline from that point on, just does not seem to make sense to me, and I present the following reasons.

Ok so I think I found a major clue to explaining lost in Exodus Pt 2. The scene in the conversation that Sun has with Shannon after Claire's baby gets stolen by Roseau she says to her something along the lines of "Do you think all this, all we've been through do u think were being punished? and shannon says punished for what and Sun says for all the things we did before, the secrets we kept, the lies we told and then shannon says what do u think is punishment and sun says fate and claire says no one is punishing us there is no such thing as fate and then the same music is played as in the finale when flocke is walking with the others to kill jacob

I personally think the first scene is going to take place off-island, on the morning of the flight from Sydney. We'll see a repeat of all the pre-boarding activities of the main characters. We'll see them get on the airplane, there'll be a bit of turbulance during the flight, and it will seem like the crash is about to happen, and then the turbulance will settle and they'll land safely in LA.

MiB works for Jacob.
Richard is the BigBad, for sure. He's the one that keeps Jacob sealed inside that statue. His power isn't really a gift from Jacob. It's a jack. Jacob does not give this power willingly. This is why Richard picks the leaders. Richard simply picks someone corruptible. Someone who would kill his own father, or have him killed. This insures he can keep up the charade. The rest of the others are not in on the arrangement and blindly follow orders. That's why it's so important to keep secret his location and indoctrinate a cult to keep up the charade. It also explains why Jacob and MiB actually share Jacob's agenda.

I have a strange idea. If it’s already been discussed, I apologize. This isn’t jam-packed with references, just ideas.
I’ve wrestled with the Dharma Initiate Ann Arbor. The reason? What did they do after the Purge? They obviously knew how to find the island in the first place. So, why didn’t they come back in force to find their missing people (obviously the dead DI islanders couldn’t answer communications from Ann Arbor—they were dead) and take the island back from the Others?
The simplest explanation is usually the right one, so here it is:

This would have made "We Have to Go Back" mean "We have to find our constants and get back to where we were"

It's been bothering me a lot. A tremendous statue built pretty damned close to the ocean. Temples with structures and pictographs that resemble more than just ancient Egypt. Energy points across the globe, at least two of which we know are on land.
I realize the original purpose for the setting of Lost to be on an island was for the isolation, but what if the Island we all know and love wasn't always an island?

My mind was reeling for clues as I searched for meaning.... and my theory for season 6, after watching the movie Groundhogs Day, which I had the DVD, is that none of the events that occurred in season 5 changed anything in the future because they happened Lost has shown us over and over that the events happened - the hearts of the variables, which are the characters did and do change though. Danial said they were the variables.

I have maintained for a while now that we have been watching a cleverly edited jumble of scenes from different realities made to look like one continuous story. I also think that attempts to change the incident will end up so that events will ultimately turn out as we know them from series 1-5. There may be some small differences like the date of the incident and whether Chang was there or not (ie whether or not he looses his arm). The concrete will still get poured, somehow the electromagnetism in the pocket will be plugged but the plug will be like a champagne cork - wonder where that idea came from

My theory is that people are the variables and the numbers represent which people need to be changed in some way so that mankind wouldn't wipe it itself out. The Dharma Initiative was setup to try to change the variables in the equation. To change the variables means you must change the people the numbers represent. We have seen the changes happen throughout the show. Danielle Rousseau’s first story about what happened to her and her team happened when they went to the Black Rock and she also knew the smoke monster was a security system. Also her story about what happened was not the same at the time she changed the transmission. Then we see that the same thing happened to her and her team but instead of them going to the Black Rock they went to the wall of the Temple. I think that when they went to the Black Rock was so they could leave the dynamite there. I think that “The Dharma Initiative” is just a co! ver and that the whispers are the people from the Temple. The ones at the Temple are just trying to save their island. That’s why the Temple has a Dharma logo.

All these great issues against the common Logic .Its the bigest issue isnt it.We all want to find out what's really going on on Lost.
We are interesting and care of losties fate. Its also unfinished ,mystirious since the Incident.

Eloise hawking is a (if not THE) major player, privy to infinite chronological revisions via a looping temporal delivery. Daniels only function is to take the seemingly empty text 30 years into the past, placing it into the hands of her younger self. The information in that book is NOT scrawling of Daniel's equations, but rather an actual magic 8 ball. All questions can be answered by her older self, but thinking 4 dimensionally in this infinite loop, it could appear to the observer (Eloise) that her own questions were in fact being answered sequentially. The very act of writing the question down changes history. And thanks to the time shift, the answer really just loops around. The book appears blank, but is probably encoded secretly with hidden writing (like in the National Treasure movie).

But he must have EXPECTED the times might be different, else why send a rocket with a clock in it. He was most likely upset because the clocks were not of the same type! If YOU were going to do such an experiment, wouldn't you have bought two clocks of the exact same model? So did Faraday!

There must be a reason they showed Jack's Grandfather in Season 5 when he gave Jack the shoes that were Christian's. Why introduce a relative of a main character, for no real purpose, that late in the series of the show? My theory is that Cooper was not really Locke's true father, Jack's Grandfather was Locke's real father.

What the compass points to sure isn't North.
The existence of the compass is a physical impossibility; it's a time paradox. It has no beginning or point of origin, it is stuck in an infinite loop.

This theory isn't based on any specific scientific concept, as I don't think science will play a huge role in the way LOST's writers resolve the show. (At least I hope it won't.) But the basics of my theory could hold true regardless of whether you favor the alt-timeline theories, the parallel universe theories, the multiverse theories, or whatever.
The Island exists solely because humans found a way to manipulate and travel through time. In a universe where time travel is possible, there must be some kind of system in place that keeps paradoxes from happening, or at least from causing damage to the space-time continuum.

So, forgive me if this has already been posted, I may be far off but, I think the smoke monster is the MIB. And here is why!
First I will say that the Smoke monster is the lingering spirit of Jacob's Enemy dressed in black,(MIB) as shown on the Season 5 Finale. Many times, it has been said they don't know what it is. But in the end of season 5 Ben tells locke he must be judged by it to see if he will be allowed to live or die.

This theory is somewhat of a repost that compiles a collection of thoughts taken from the ongoing WHH v ALT conversations throughout this forum.... I have tried to stick to my own ideas that I've posted but I am also taking this opportunity to include rebuttal arguments that have been received throughout the discourse of the debates here at DarkUFO. Where appropriate, I've updated my original posts so that the ideas take into account the comments left within the forum that have since spawned new avenues and ideas... and revisiting what we covered over the past year is sort of my own little way of gearing up for the premier of season 6. I hope you enjoy the enhanced version of the original post - The Case For ALT All Along.

Desmond is a lovesick man who has been rejected by Charles Widmore his entire life? No. Let's look at some of the facts about our beloved Desmond and his relationship to Charles Widmore.
The first flashback scene we ever see of Desmond is him leaving prison... for what? Its never been told to us and one can't assume its b/c he screwed up some pushups in the military.

Just throwing this out there. I don't really believe it, but you never know.
What if Richard does really age? It just doesn't seem that way because he is kept in suspension until he is needed.
To help run the others right before they get a new leader and then sticking around for a little bit to help get the new leader ready.

Here is my theory. I think it might be a bit of a stretch but its not beyond the realm of reason.
First, I think Locke's father is
