LOST Theories - DarkUFO

Words have meaning by Spoon

This is a theory not necessarily about the mysteries of the island, but about how the writers place subtle clues with words.

Some parts of Wikipedia’s entry for the word “loophole” include the following:

“A loophole is a weakness or exception that allows a system, such as a law or security, to be circumvented or otherwise avoided. Loopholes are searched for and used strategically in a variety of circumstances…”
“A loophole in a law often contravenes the intent of the law without technically breaking it.”
“In a security system, the one who breaches the system (such as an inmate escaping from prison or a terrorist) exploits the loophole during breach. Such weaknesses are often studied in advance by the violator, who spends time observing and learning the routine of the system and sometimes conducts surreptitious tests until such a loophole can be found.”

Well, certainly these could apply to the MIB’s operation to kill Jacob. What I posit though is that we will see that the loophole he exploits is in fact a Loop Hole – i.e. a HOLE in the LOOP. He needs to break the loop open, without circumventing any ‘laws’ of the game, by studying, observing and learning the loop and conducting surreptitious tests to find a way to break the loop.

Now for the second phrase that came to me while watching the Season finale again. In this episode the writers go to some effort to portray Juliette as a bit mercurial, making sudden changes in her intent (leaving the island, returning to the island to stop Jack, changing to help Jack). Her changes of mind do not come pleasantly but are made coldly and are connected to how she sees her relationship with Sawyer unfolding. Sawyer takes the brunt of this and is confused and pained to understand just what Juliette wants (he makes no argument in any case, just does whatever it is she wants).

In the end it is Juliette who has everyone’s fate literally in her hands, and her success/failure in detonating Jughead’s innards has been the topic of great debate, but clearly will be the determining factor of the course of the final season. She is the agent of destiny.

All of this reminded me of a famous phrase by Ben earlier in the series. “Destiny is a fickle bitch”. Foreshadowing? I think so.
