This is not really a theory, however it does point out something that has been overlooked in everyone's theories that start from the beginning.

If there is in fact time loops how did they all start? Everything needs a jumping off point or else they will just stay static, and on the linear path they are supposed to.

simply, the pilot for the tv show lost is one of the greatest pieces of television created. Most will say it is due to the amazing beginning, the quick way the writers were able to detail 14 main characters in two hours of air time- or the strange and mysterious island that gets the viewer's brain turning with wonder.

This is my first theory here, so please, cut me some slack :).

I was thinking of season 3, the mini-arc of the first 6 episodes specially, when the show focused its attention pretty much on Kate, Jack and Sawyer, along with the love triangle. We all know that Hurley was also kidnapped by The Others, but his only mission was to tell the other Losties to never come back for the triffecta. The main plot would center around manipulating the triangle and Ben getting his surgery.

Sorry if this has been posted I'm new to the site.

Alright so I'm rewatching season 5 and somehow I started thinking about how the explosion of Jughead could result in an alternate timeline sort of like what Desmond experienced when he turned the key (the lighting and sound was similar), except with this one leading the characters to see how everything would turn out had their plane landed safely.

We all know how our beloved couple Darlton said, very early on the series, that there would be no time travel on the show. Many of us felt tricked because of Season 5 and its obviously time travel-based plot.

I don't think our legs have been pulled here though. My opinion is that they said what they said because the ultimate answer that we've been wanting for five years now, the answer to "Guys, where are we?" has nothing to do with time travel and that the latter was just a plot device that Darlton discovered along the way, much in the same fashion they "discovered" the Flashforward.

Inspired by Faraday’s explanation of the island being like a spinning record and theories following this analogy I would like to put in my two pennies worth. It has been mentioned on this site that when Desmond spoke to Jack in the stadium and he told him to “lift it up” he may have been using an analogy similar to the one that Faraday used. He meant the stylus of a record player. Time as a track on a record and the stylus plotting the course of the present. In fact I think this is the way that the frozen donkey wheel works. It resets time on island like taking the needle off the record at the end of the song and putting it back on near the start of the same song. When the wheel was turned the stylus was taken off 2004 and put back down on 1977. The song then replays from that point and the people relive their lives without any knowledge of the future or that they have done it before. I suspect that the isl! and does something similar naturally, since Mrs Hawking said the island was always out of time. The island could have been replaying time over and over.

I believe that we will see the "normal" cycle of time in Season 6 that is untouched by Jacob. We will see all our characters NOT crash on the plane, then our characters and others we have seen will be reunited in this normal cycle of time only to survive the destruction and pending end of time. They know that they will soon die too. Jacob will be with them and he will be their guide and help them plan how he will travel as far back as The Black Rock (and farther) and begin manipulating time and events in order to save the world. The earliest manipulation helped form the Monster. Jacob's nemesis doesn't want destiny changed.

Here's what we know after 5 seasons -

    1) The island and participants are in a time loop (The clues: Time Traveling Losties, Desmond's differing accounts of rescue, Ben seeming to know everything that is happening, visible cause and effect in viewing the different time periods of the island...)

    2) There is at least one party interest in ending the loop (The major clue: Flocke/Jacob discussions of "They come, they fight, they destroy, they corrupt" Jacob mentioning that "only has to end once"....)

Weather is good or bad it stays open..My guess is that it can be good or bad and it all depends on perspective. I said this number of times and I was ridiculed but I am convinced that in life in general every situation depends on perspective and so does reality itself. Reality depends on observer. I believe that the "Ghosts" that appear on Lost belong to three categories. The first category is Manifestations of Smokey. As we've known since S3, Smokey has the ability to impersonate the dead, while possibly being able to impersonate the living as well (Walt.) We have presumably seen three (Arguably four) examples of Smokey's manifestations. Yemi, Alex and possibly Christian. The most important thing I've noticed about these manifestations is how inhuman they all seem to be. They're cold and detached, making them seem full of evil glee on occasion, such as Alex's expression when she tells Ben she "Knows it's his fault", Christian's entire demeanor during the Cabin scene, and Yemi telling Eko "You speak to me as if I were your brother."

Different arguments can be made for ‘When is Jacob from?’ One way to appear to be the same age at any time in the past is to actually be from the future. In other words, you could spend the next few weeks travelling between past and present, making sure you visited each of the last 50 years. Have your picture taken with the same person (who is ageing normally) during each visit. You would then have photographic proof that you hadn’t aged for the last 5 decades.

This I refer to Final Destination movies. Jack will see what can happen like Desmond and stop it or prolong it.

‘Two endings to Lost would be nice…one light, one dark.’
I hope this provides a different slant on some theories that have already been put out there. No doubt Lost will yet again demolish most of my ideas, probably by the end of episode one, Series 6.
    split=
There are two sides in the game of backgammon, in which opposing players try to get their pieces home first. A good strategy leaves the other player’s pieces largely immobilised, needing a specific throw of the dice…..a loophole, to even move, let alone win.
In Lost, one side is led by Jacob. The opposing side seems likely to be represented by an unnamed bearded rival, with whom Jacob spoke in Series 5 finale. Their conversation by the statue revealed the long term conflict for control of the island, its secrets, and ultimate purpose. It seems that Jacob has held a backgammon type advantage over Bearded Rival for a long time, but the latter claims “One of these days we’re going to find a loophole.”
Their clothing, and the ship on the horizon both suggested 19th century, but they spoke with modern accents, which might indicate that Jacob and Bearded Rival were from the future. Or that the makers of Lost thought the words spoken were too important to be made ambiguous by accents of that era.
“They come, fight, they destroy, they corrupt. It always ends the same.” Bearded Rival appears to be cynical of human attempts to live peacefully and responsibly on the island.
“(If) it only ends once, anything that happens before that is just progress.” Jacob’s reply suggests that he has repeatedly brought people to the island, in the hope that the ‘ending’ can be avoided. It’s as if the island will decide our fate at some future pre-ordained time, and Jacob is trying to show that humankind is worthy of saving.
We look forward to a spectacular, shocking and thought provoking ending to Lost. Involving not just the predicted ‘war’ and the outcome for the story’s main characters, but also the destiny of humankind itself.
One scenario is that the human race has been an experiment, instigated by some higher power. The aim was to evolve an intelligent, civilized species, capable of protecting this superb planet. But the experiment is about to be reviewed, the time for our appraisal is imminent, and the island will be the instrument of our judgement. Perhaps the black smoke monster occasionally ‘scans’ the minds of individual humans (John, Eko, Kate, Juliette) in order to assess our progress. If we survive judgement, then we go on, perhaps rewarded with the next evolutionary step.
If we fail, if we continue to fight, destroy and corrupt, then we may be purged. Just imagine the final scenes of Lost showing smoke monsters pouring out of every cerberus vent (CV on Blast Door Map), to terminate the experiment and cleanse the island of the living, as the world begins to shake with one final electromagnetic catastrophe. It would be visually fantastic, an ending of biblical proportions.
“…and God saw that humans had spurned the time granted to them. So where there was light, He caused darkness to prevail again...”
Another scenario is an imminent global disaster. It might be the ‘war’ that Widmore, and Hurley’s psychic referred to. It might be incurable pandemic, environmental, asteroid or other event for which we are unprepared. The ending has been revealed to just a few individuals over the centuries, who realized that the only survivors would be from the island. Therefore the island becomes the most important piece of real estate on the planet.
How? Well, if the island can be moved back in time, it can avoid imminent global disaster. Eventually it would return to the future as a catalyst, from which life on the planet could regenerate. Those who controlled the island would effectively inherit the earth. The main reason for fighting over it.
A third scenario is similar to the first, except that instead of being purged after failing judgement, the human race will be abandoned, and left to the malevolent forces that seek to work through the island. These have been held at bay by Jacob, while he continued with his work, trying to ‘save us all’.
“You’re trying to prove me wrong, aren’t you?” Bearded Rival believes Jacob’s work is futile, having witnessed human failings on the island many times. The time of judgement is also known to Bearded Rival. Believing that the human race would not survive the judgement, he and his followers had instead made a deal with the ‘dark side’.
It’s as if they have traded in their human spirit, probably by undergoing some kind of ritual in one of the island’s temples. In return, the malevolent forces have changed them into a form that can endure the oncoming darkness, after humans fail judgement. At first they are allowed to exist as replicas of their former selves, still functioning physically as before. They would gradually become apparitions, and eventually enter the realm of whispers, but more of that in part 2.
If Bearded Rival’s side were to win, a new order would spread out from the island, and malevolence would prevail on the planet. We would have to ‘change’ to survive. Ruled by a terrifying security system in a Godless, dark, barren world of undeath, devoid of free will.
Anyway, two endings to Lost would be nice….one light, one dark

Info I see in some theories does not correlate with the facts we have been given over the last 5 years. Here are my three ideas for what the final scene of Lost will be:

    1) As a parallel to the first scene of Season 1, the final scene will end with Jack closing his eye. This will likely be because in the last scene Jack will die.
    2) As a parallel to the Others seeing 815 crash over the Island, the remaining Losties will see another plane, or other mode of transportation becoming marooned on the Island, thus solidifying their role as the "new Others". This will play into the whole history-repeating-itself theme.
    3) My personal favorite: We have seen the Sydney airport, we have seen the Losties getting in line for the plane, we have seen them on the plane, we have seen them crash, and in my opinion, by the end of the first episode in Season 6 we will have seen the plane land in Los Angeles. The one thing we have not seen is the plan taking off. I think an amazing final scene will be everyone boarding the plane, and then, from the POV of outside the plane, we will see it take off in to the horizon, knowing full well what is in store for everyone on board.

Calling this a theory is a bit of stretch, but I've been thinking about Jacob's apparent nemesis manipulating the island players via use of the dead - in particular dead bodies. Consequently Jacob's life giving touch could well be the side that allows the living to make their own, free willing choices. Not via manipulation, but by the truth - even if its the harsh truth. Life isn't easy, after all.

I watched "Man Behind the Curtain" again last night and then watched the episode "Dead is Dead". One thing that struck me as odd was that when Ben first meets Richard in "mbtc", Alpert has the appearance of a hermit.( long hair, tattered clothes, etc) But when you see Richard throughout the episodes where they flash in and out of different times Alpert is dressed in his normal attire with his hair well kept.("Jughead, etc) Also, Richard has the same clean cut appearance when Ben is taken to him after being shot by Sayid. That is what really confused me because Ben appears to be close to the same age as he was when he met Alpert in "mbtc". This is not an oversight, I think there is a reason for the difference in his appearance. The only logical explanation is that we have been watching two timelines all along. Sorry if this is not exactly a theory more than it is a rant from a confused fan. Have a good day.

Season 6 Finale Titles by Shpilo
    View Comments

The way I see it, there are four possibilities for the title of the Season 6 finale. The Season 1 finale was called "Exodus" and if the theory of the parallel of the seasons rings true, then it is possible that the last episode of Lost will bear a title from another book of the Old Testament. As "Numbers" was already an episode, there are three possibilities: Deuteronomy, Leviticus, and Genesis. Let's analyze each one:
Deuteronomy: This literally means "repetition of the law", or simply "repetition", because this book is essentially a retelling of the story of the last two three books. If Lost plays around with the whole "time loop" theory, then this could be a very fitting title.

I've been rewatching the series and saw The Man From Tallahassee again recently. This was the first mention of the so-called magic box. Ben says: "Let me put it so you'll understand. Picture a box. You know something about boxes, don't you John? What if I told you that, somewhere on this island, there is a very large box and whatever you imagined, whatever you wanted to be in it when you opened that box, there it would be? What would you say about that, John?". Afterwards, it is revealed that Anthony Cooper has somehow made it onto the Island. How exactly did that happen? Well, the submarine blew up recently, so I doubt that's it. How exactly did Richard get off the Island to see John Locke's birth? It couldn't have been the submarine, because the DI had not been on the Island yet. It couldn't have been the FDW, because the Island didn't start time skipping. It's the magic box.

Birth issues and incident by reckoner

Hello, it is my first post here and more than a theory it is just an observation and i wanted to share it with you guys

It is about the birth issues on the island, something that has been bothering to me is the fact that these birth problems are just affecting to humans. We could see that, after the incident, animals on the island have not had any “reproductive” problem, as we were able to see those little boars going around on the island in the first season, just to give one example
Perhaps (and if it is not just a mistake of the production) we can assume that the births issues are not associated to the radiation caused for the explosion/ implosion of jughead in the incident but associated to the incident itself (new time line?) maybe it has been a manoeuvre of MIB or Jacob to avoid the addition of new “human variables” in this big game, what do you think?
Well, this is it, not so much isn’t it?

    cheers

This is an update of an earlier theory.

When someone turns the FDW (Frozen Donkey Wheel) a duplicate is created. There should be 2 of the same person created, one in the FDW chamber and one in Tunisia. Turning the wheel also moves the island in time. I don’t know how or when the island moves to because we we’ve not seen ALL the implications of turning the wheel. I would like to guess that if Ben went ahead in time…9 months was it?...then the island went back 9 months. There could be some other correlation but I will go with this assumption for now. Maybe you can help me see the answer, because I’m all for us working on solving the Lost puzzle together.

An early scene in the episode "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" (almost exactly 2 minutes in) depicts the character Caesar frantically looking through various documents, one of which has always caught my eye and puzzled me no matter how many times I try and solve it.

The document depicts various circles (globes, or planets) which are all interconnected by lines which are tagged either "Real Time", "Space Time", "Imaginary Time" and "Imaginary Space". Additionally, Some of these 'globes' are tagged with "Event A", "Event B" and "Event c". Finally, there are some physics-style formulas (or equations, I have no idea) which I
will try my hardest to try to replicate (I apologize if there are any wrongfully translated equations):

In the beginning, Jacob and Esau - two brothers, perhaps - were very close friends. Together, they got to rule the Island (how isn't explained in this theory; perhaps they were to normal people who stumpled upon it and thereby got "supernatural" powers, or sent their by some Egypt god, or was born their and was the heirs of the Island as their parents ruled it before, or... well, it isn't really relevant to this theory; I just assume, for the sake of this theory, that they a very long time ago somehow got in charge of the island). Who they were, and what the nature of their powers were (if they had any powers of their own - perhaps they only were able to use the Island's powers?) this theory doesn't explain.

OK – total theory here we go:

This is a conflict between two sides. On one side, I think we have Jacob, Ben and Widmore. I think these three are acting together, presumably under Jacob's leadership to entice the MIB (on the other side) into a trap.

    So, in order of events:

Locke vs. Locke by Ginger Doggie

Someone convinced Ben to strangle Locke because he "had to die." We saw Christian tell Locke that he had to die, so perhaps Christian also told Ben this. Locke's corpse was then taken on the Ajira flight and reanimated on the island by the anti-Jacob. We are to think that he's been doing the work of anti-Jacob, which included talking Ben into killing Jacob.

My theory is that Ben killed Jacob and Jacob's spirit will go into the second corpse of Locke that was in Alana's gang's box. So I think that the first scene of next season will be Locke's eye opening on the beach where he was just dumped.

Perhaps then we have Jacob and anti-Jacob both played by Terry O'Quinn. We then rely on Ben to figure out what's going on and find the best way to to destroy both of them, by sacrificing himself, perhaps. Ben will be the hero of the story, and I predict that the audience won't know which Locke is "the bad guy" until the last episode of the show, or even after that, perhaps we'll never know if Ben made the right choice.

First post ever. Please excuse my english. Here it goes:

I've just watched the deleted scenes from the S5 extras, and there is a scene where Sun and Frank arrive at the Dharmaville in the middle of the night. There, as we know, they meet Christian. Christian picks up an axe, and tries to break some pieces of wood which are nailed on a house door, blocking the entrance (also the windows). Inside that house, there is that old photo from the Dharma era with Hurley, Jack etc..

So, as far as i remember, no house looked like that while the Others lived there. That place looked abandoned/sealed. It didn't look like anything we ve seen in season 4, when Keamy and his men went there. So my guess is that, this is in fact an alternate reality and things can change after all. OR that house was always an old sealed secret place, even when the Others lived there, that it was never shown to us before (but i don't think that's the case).

This idea was just brought up in the comments of another theory and I thought it deserved to be fleshed out as a theory of its own... even if only to be shot down.

Why didn't the Others flash during the time skips? Cass thought it might be due to status of island birth, but we know that Charlotte and (I assume) Miles were born on the island. They both flashed, and Charlotte eventually died, so maybe that's not the reason.

I guess this is more of a plot point/hole I've been pondering a lot more and more lately. Obviously Juliet's story isn't COMPLETELY done, but for all intense purposes we know she is more then likely dead (and I'm pretty sure that was truly and fully confirmed by Damon and Carlton). My gripe with her character, who I seriously liked more then Kate on an infinite level, is how could she really be a "lostie" for as long as she was and these characters don't know jack (pun intended) about her full knowledge of the Others. I mean seriously, even if we're always just getting snippets into the lives of these ppl, at the same time, are we supposed to seriously and truly believe that she hasn't give any iota of information that would possibly shed any light on ANYTHING? I've brought this up before a while back, but this time after the finale aired, I'm still kind of scratching my head. I know she wasn't a normal Other (si! nce she was recruited off Island), so I wonder if she had to go under the same type of ritual Ben or Cindy apparently did?

Throughout Season 5, we were given hints that the Losties 'always' ended up in the '70s---Ethan's birth, Chang's arm, Ben joining the Others, etc., etc. I think we're going to find out that this wasn't the case---these events were not the result of 'Whatever Happened, Happened', they were instances of course correction.

There will be no reset. One big clue to this is Chang injuring his arm during the incident. What ever happened, DID happen in this cycle of life. There are many hints of the Egyptian "eternal return" throughout Lost such as "It'll come back around" and Ms. Hawking's ouroborous. With eternal return, the world ends but starts over again.

I've been reading a bunch of theories since The Incident aired, done the whole rewatch thing, etc. At first, I figured, like many - Locke's toast. But a few things don't add up.

Jacob the Supplanter, and the identity of his nemesis by CinematicESP

    Here's a thought...

Jacob, like "Nemesis," has the ability to take the shape of dead people. Jacob is actually inhabiting the body of Nemesis, rendering Nemesis formless. He is the black smoke monster. This is why he wants to kill Jacob so badly, because Jacob stole his identity. (The name "Jacob" does mean "supplanter" after all). The Man in Black at the beginning of The Incident is simply Nemesis taking the shape of a corpse. Perhaps he killed this person and assumed their form in order to have the conversation with Jacob. This could be what he meant by "I just ate."

I'm just new to this site so apologies if this has already been posted. I noticed a few comments about Richard's agelessness and that noone had seemed to come up with a really sound reason.

What if Richard isn't ageless, he just time travels. We know he can get on and off the island to be where and when he needs to be (Locke's birth, childhood visits, Juliet's recruitment...) What if his mode of transport allows him to travel through time (not so far fetched based on what we've been shown in S5)? Someone who is always skipping through time would seem to be ageless becasue they can be anywhere, anywhen. I guess if I use Back to the Future as an analogy. If you didn't know that Doc could time travel, but knew what he looked like in 1885, 1955, 1985, 2015 wouldn't you think he was ageless?

Couldn't Richard be doing all these time travelling missions for Jacob, popping in and out when needed and have only lived a few years of HIS timeline (therefore not changing much in looks) but appearing across a huge span of years, seemingly ageless to the others? Also explains Ben's comments about birthdays - if you spend your life outside of the normal flow of time, then bithdays wouldn't mean anything - how would he keep track of it?

Two things still bug me about the end, concerning Locke as Flocke. Firstly, and this is pretty banal, but Flocke seemed to be suprised that Jacob lived where he did. I understand that Flocke has to play the part of an unknowing, revived, super-Locke, but his reaction to finding out where Jacob was living suprised me. Especially seeing as how I assumed the man in black knew where Jacob lived at the start of the Incident. Maybe I've been taken in.

I have decided that the best twist to the end of LOST that falls within the “rules” laid out so far would be as follows: In the end, human life on the planet will cease to exist. No matter what changes are made, the end arrives at a certain date and time. It only ends once. The focus of our heroes and everything we have seen the last few years can only change HOW life ends. The difference will be whether life ends naturally (like, maybe the sun decides to go haywire and we all fry one day, or it burns out) or we kill one another through war.

Is it not just an act of the casting department, or is the fact that Carol is played by an entirely different actress than when she first appeared in "Par Avion" not a coincidence. She was in a coma; the doctors didn't give her much of a chance to live; in fact Christian Shepherd was pushing for pulling the plug. But she lived, not only lived, she made a miraculous recovery. And she mysteriously appeared at the right place at the right time and was seen speaking with Ben's attorney. She know has custody of Aaron and I think she is an imposter. An agent of Ben sent to grab Aaron and bring him back to the island.

You see, what I see when I look at in a show like this, is that the writers have developed a highly detailed show that leaves only a little flexibility in the storyline. It's not like Heroes or 24, where a storyline last for a season, and then they can carry on after that in any way they choose. From the beginning, Lost, has had a specific end that these writers were always aiming for.

ENEMY: I am. How did they find the Island?
JACOB: You'll have to ask 'em when they get here.

And now, for my most outlandish theory yet.

What if we got it all wrong? What if Lost isn't a show about what we think it is. No doubt we are still very much in the dark about a lot of things, but I suspect there is something beneath the plot and beneath the actual production of the show that we're all missing, even though it's right in front of our faces. Something that when revealed, will be obvious even in the pilot as the glue that held the show together. As Fox has stated, the show ends in "an incredibly powerful, very sad and beautiful way. I think it is going to be pretty awesome." Like everything Lost, I take that with the same double meaning I take every line spoken on screen.

The Island is an attempt by a higher intelligence to create paradise for humans. All evidence points to this, from it's physical attributes (tropical setting and healing powers) to it's philosophy of how it conducts itself. What is paradise? The state of nirvana or enlightenment. How do you achieve this? Thru coming to terms with your life, atoning, and adopting a constructive, peaceful, limitless attitude and lifestyle. This is the process of redemption that is the foundation of Lost. This is the purpose the Island seeks to reveal to all of it's inhabitants. RECIPROCITY

Where is the island? I believe the island exists inside a time bubble within a wormhole.

A wormhole is a structure which connects two distant regions of space time. Now wormholes although hypothetical are thought to be unstable and would require an unusual energy source to prevent total collapse. The energy source that keeps our wormhole open is the exotic matter located at the orchid. It has curious properties, one of which is it exerts a negative force, so if you tried to pump up a car tire using exotic matter it would do the opposite and deflate the tire. This negative force can be harnessed though, by sending it through the centre of a wormhole to keep it open. The island exists within this wormhole, inside a time bubble, one mouth of the wormhole moves around the pacific, the entry point, while the other exists in Tunisia, or the exit point as it’s known, but I’m curious as to why nobody can traverse through the wormhole from the Tunisian side to get to the island?? It seems to be a one way deal here

There is a very important aspect to the episode 'The Incident' that we've all been missing. Specifically in the first and last scene of the episode. Understanding this will not only help us understand where season 6 will be going, it will change the major consensus of the believes of both MIB and Jacob, it will also unveil a new entity on the island, and pretty much change the entire plot of LOST.

I believe neither Jacob or MiB are good/bad. Its their goal that defines them. Similar to Jack and John. Both good men but with entirely different perspective. One believes (John) that the island is a place where miracles happen and that the best thing to do is to just let it be and stay on the island..live and protect it. The other one (Jack) doesn't believe in miracles even thou he saw his dead father walking around.

I know why babies and children are important. First let me tell you my assumptions. Since we see Locke's physical body, we must assume that the MIB doesn't need a body; he can transform into anyone. He cannot physically influence the future; he can only influence the future by conning and manipulating people with words (eg he cannot help Locke get up after he suffers the compound fracture before turning the wheel, only by manipulating him with words is he able to bring John to his destiny. Example 2, the compass). The MIB does need an influential form to transform into to manipulate people (Locke, Christian, Walt, 'still have work to do'). These factors are supported by tons of evidence.

Most of us have been speculating that Jacob is the good guy. So just for the sake of argument I’m going to speculate why Mib could be the good guy.

For starters, he wants to protect the island from “invaders”, the ones that Jacob brings. The island is a beautiful, magical place with special powers and is hidden from humanity.

There is a white light monster. Read below to find out why.

It has been made abundantly clear to the viewers that there exists two entities on the Island, in direct conflict with each other. This revelation can be seen as having taken place during the Season 5 finale "The Incident", but in my opinion it stretches back further. Clearly it is possible to interpret all preceding events on Lost as parts of the conflict between MIB and Jacob, but there are two distinct references to two separate entities that I would like to examine, leading to the conclusion that opposite the black smoke monster there exists a white light monster.
