I'm going to start this theory by expanding on what we learned in 'The Incident' and focus on the conflict between Jacob and MIB, the loophole and the role of Christian. Why Christian? I believe the senior Dr. Sheppard will play a pivotal role in the end game of Lost.

The Producers classify Christian as being "undead". Whether that term implies Christian is a ghost or has been resurrected remains to be seen. I'll touch on that more later, but for now, let's look at Christian role in the events leading up to The Incident and examine what I feel is conclusive evidence on why Christian can't be aligned with MIB / Smoke Monster.

One must first assume that MIB manipulated everything he could to get to what transpired at the end of 'The Incident'. Whether he killed Jacob or not, he finally found the loophole to kill Jacob in Ben and Locke.

Considering that he found his loophole, one must assume that the events leading up to it worked as he planned to get Locke to manipulate and take Ben in the statue in order to kill Jacob.

If Christian was aligned with or was a manifestation of MIB why would he tell Locke that HE was supposed to move the island? NOT BEN.

Play out this scenario for a second... If Locke initially moved the island as instructed, then Ben stays on the island and MIB would not get his chance to take Locke's form that ultimately led him to Jacob.

The perfect plan worked to perfection for MIB... If Christian was a manifestation of him, then he would have told Locke in the cabin to have Ben move the island, knowing the result would be the island skipping and thus requiring Locke to turn the wheel.

It is my belief that Jacob was not only aware of MIB's plan with Ben and Locke; he set it up in the first place. How did he do this? By sending Sayid back to 1977 knowing that he would try to kill Ben and that Kate would bring him to the Others and that he would then instruct Richard to take him to the Temple to be healed. We'll get into the Temple in another post but given that the Monster resides under the temple and MIB seems to have some power over the Monster, I believe that Jacob (through Richard) planted the seeds for the plan by delivering young Ben to MIB. That would also explain why Jacob never met with Ben in the flesh.

In any game or war, the best advantage is to know your opponent's approach. By Jacob setting up MIB by giving him an apparent loophole with Ben and Locke, Jacob was then able to counter-act that with the Losties in '77. Christian was instrumental in setting the final pieces of it up.

As far as where we go from here, is there any character that has more ties to the remaining people than Christian? He has more ties than anyone. He's Jack and Claire's father, Aaron's grandfather, he has helped Locke, Sun and Lapidis find their way, even had beers with Sawyer pre-crash and told Vincent to wake Jack up immediately following the crash of Flight 815.

This puts Christian in a very powerful position of influence over many of the main characters. I personally believe that he is being honest when he says he is speaking on Jacob's behalf and has been key in protecting Aaron by getting him off the island and keeping Claire safe. I predict we will see more of him in Season 6 and we will see what happens to those who die on the island through his experience with Claire.

We were told by Eloise that the island moves. So, where else besides the South Pacific has it resided?
Locke and Ben, the polar bear ended up in the Tunisian desert once the donkey wheel was moved. Maybe that’s a good place to start.
Tunisia is next to Libya a nation that Ramesses II conquered. Why is Ramesses II important? Well if you go based on references, check out the poem by Horace Smith on this link, http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Shadow_of_the_Statue. Ozymandias is mentioned, which is another name for Ramesses II. If you go along with the Biblical references on Lost, then you might be interested in the notion that historians think this is the Ramesses from the Exodus account (hmm, another Lost reference…)

What if the island landed in Tunisia during the reign of Ramesses II?

The temple, the statue and other constructions were built on the island at his order by the Egyptians and the slaves of the Egyptians.
The only “lifeform” the Egyptians found on the island was the smoke monster
so they built the temple for it. The Egyptians attempt to live on the island was stopped by the inability of women to give birth on it, which prompted them to build the statue, which is of an Egyptian goddess of fertility, yet the way it is depicted on Lost it could spell out infertility.

The island leaves Tunisia at some point and settles in the South Pacific.

The first generation of Others are people who searched for the island, hearing of it as only a myth. They are caught in a storm and end up on the island.

They discover the ruins and the smoke monster deems them worthy of staying on the island.
People start arriving on the island at regular intervals by accident and the smoke monster begins to decide who belongs and who doesn’t
The US Army, during the first battle in Tunisia in WWII, retreated into Egypt (historically accurate, check out Tunisia on wikipedia, it’s referenced).

A group of deserters were told the story of the island and when they were caught traded what they knew of the power sources on the island for acquittal (this part, obviously, is for the sake of this theory).

The US Army begins searching for the island and finds it in 1954, but is killed by the Others, now led by Richard Alpert.
Jughead is left on the island, and through the island flashes, which always impacted island history (IMO), it was placed underground.

Alver Hanso was part of the group who supplied munitions for the mission, in fact he created Jughead. Alver’s interest in helping the army find the island was fueled by his knowledge of his greatgrandfather Magnus Hanso finding the island when he was commander of the Black Rock.
The Black Rock Ledger was sent to Magnus Hanso’s family after its discovery in 1852 and was passed down to Alver.
Since Alver’s “disappearance”, his family auctioned some of his belongings. Tovard, his grandson left the Ledger with Southfields where Widmore purchased it.

Widmore is the descendant of the one man who made it off the island, or who never went on the island, from the Black Rock Crew. In the mid- 1950’s, an ad was placed in American and British newspapers. It called for 16- 23 year olds looking for work and adventure. This ad had been running since the 1920s (Richard mentions this timeframe when he speaks to Locke (?) in “Jughead”).

Charles Widmore and Eloise Hawking were persuaded to answer the ad through a series of unusual events (similar persuasions: Bram and Miles, Claire and Malkin, Jack and Desmond, Hawking and Desmond)
Once on the island, Charles learns from Richard Alpert that he is the descendant of Magnus Hanso. The man who escaped the island with the Ledger was Magnus’ son.

Ellie learns that she is the descendant of The Benson’s, founding family of Apollo Candy Company (part of Lost Experience). Both were conceived illegitimately. Once Ellie leaves the island to give birth to Daniel, she begins working for the Apollo Company, which is now owned by Hanso. The Company is of course a front and she is not making chocolate, but is still doing work that relates to the island.
Throughout his time on the island, Widmore has taken trips off island, to claim his rightful inheritance, and starts to establish his business empire, which he goes back to once he is banished.

Side thought:
Penny’s mother is Jack Shepherd’s aunt. I don’t know why, I just think the Shepherds have to fit in this somehow!

This theory is all over the place and I have a lot left to add, but I just wanted to put it out there.

I recently rewatched the first episode, and i would like restate something that im sure has been posted here before. I believe that Jacob take the form of Vincent. Vincent is the first entity in the show after Jack. Right after he wakes up we see Vincent come out of the jungle almost beckoning him with the ominous music. As Jack runs out of the forest there is a slow pan on his father's shoe in the trees representing the MIB who we assume Christian. I think these two figures are actually a sly introduction to the theme of the show, MIB and Jacob showing their presence on the island. Later in the episode (27:50 to be exact), there is a shot that shows Vincent panting and watching over Charlie Kate and Jack. The music and the length of the shot are what convince me, its just seems way to intentional of a hint. Its been rumoured that the producers said we have seen Jacob before the incident, and that he hasnt talked! . With a lot of people thinking this means he is Aaron, i think it eludes to Vincent. Also in an episode that was on scifi today, Vincent leads Shannon to Boones grave, when he is suppose to be finding Walt. I think its another case of Vincent (jacob) showing guidance. I mean why would she bring her there of all places. SO maybe Vincent died on the wreck and was possessed

I was recently thinking of explanations to the pallet drop and came up with what I think is the most logical: it came in on a different bearing. But then I thought how can that be? Didn't the bearing issues start after Desmond turned the failsafe?

Then I remembered the scene with the blast doors.

When Locke is trapped under the blast door and Ben is supposed to be pushing the button, there is a noticeable delay once the black lights turn on to reveal the map on the door. During this, there's a good amount of time before we hear the discharge and the timer flipping back. The premise here is that Ben allowed just a certain amount of zero Swan time that resulted in the temporary screwing of the island's bearings.---I also think the Blast Door sequence that randomly started played a part in "pulling" the pallet from another time, since one could surmise that that was the original protocol. Blast doors go down, pallet drops, hence kind of a proxy.

So there are several possibilities here:

- Ben knew some sort of code or something to input in the computer that allowed for a Dharma pallet meant for the 70's/80's to pass through a certain bearing that would cause it to fall in their time before pushing the button again. I only say this because there didn't seem to be much EM activity during this time.

- The other, probably more likely scenario is that he knew the likelihood of succeeding since the blast doors were down, and all he needed to do was leave the heiroglyphics up a little longer. It's a little farfetched, I know. You're probably asking how did he know? Well, how does Ben seem to know the things he does sometimes? My money is on the whispers. Several "hidden" audio sequences have been found with scenes with Ben, specifically when he's being held captive, where, if you look at the transcripts, it seems almost as if someone is talking to Ben and telling him what to say/do. K, back to topic --

- Ben didn't have a clue and unknowingly did everyone a favor by not pushing the button right away lol :D

So it's a little crackpot-ish but there ya go.

"The Incident" was perhaps the most informative episode we have had of Lost. Whether it be the opening conversation between Jacob and Esau, the Jacob flashbacks, finding out the context of the Incident, Rose and Bernard etc.. I think Damon and Carlton were dropping subtle hints throughout the finale as to what is going to be perhaps the most important factor of the sixth season. What is the deciding factor?

Claire.

Since "Raised By Another", it has been obvious to alot of people that Claire and her baby were going to be incredibly important. The physic, Malkin, was the topic of much debate at the time. Was he real or was he fake? I am going on the assumption that at least some of the things he said were true. Aaron cannot be rasied by another, it must be Claire who raises him if Aaron is to be rasied to his destiny. I think the Claire of seasons 1-4 1/2 was the most innocent of the characters. She has to this point not killed a person, while most of the characters(even Hurley) have killed a person. She has remained innocent, and I think this is the obvious reason Aaron had to be raised by her, so that he would remain innocent.

All that changed when Chrstian Shepherd showed up in "Something Nice Back Home". I'm sure we all agree that this is actually Esau in disguise. He takes Claire with him to "Jacob's" cabin. We see the results in "Cabin Fever". She seems to have some mystical sense about her, as if she knows everything. Much the way Robert, Danielle's husband, looked and sounded after coming out of the hole that leads under the Temple. I'm almost certain Christian led her down to the Temple's basement, where Smokey changed her, or gave her the Sickness. Anyway, I think she has now become "evil".

This shifts everything. If Aaron is now rasied by Claire, he would likely become like Esau. I believe at this time(early 2005) Jacob was almost completely in control of the Island, with Esau being secluded to the cabin. However, Esau found some way to escape the cabin(possibly someone came and broke the line in the sand?), got Claire, and returned. Now, Jacob knows that Aaron is going to be the deciding factor for who controls the Island, so what does he do? I believe that when Ben grew the tumor, this was Jacob'd first step in manipulating Ben to do what would keep Aaron away from Esau: have Ben turn the donkey wheel, thus having Aaron off the Island if Esau took control. The one facor Jacob didn't forsee: Claire being turned by Esau.

I think Jacob intended for Claire to get off the Island, as we see when Desmond has a flash of Claire and Aaron getting into a helicopter. However, Desmond and Jacob were both mistaken, thinking this woukd be the Freighter's heliocopter.

Now, why is Claire going to be the deciding factor of season six? Because whatever direction Claire decides to take is the direction I think Aaron will ultimately go. I think the first half of season six is going to be Claire being convinced to rejoin the Losties, and off-island, Desmond and Aaron are going to be making there way back to the Iland, with the help of Elosie Hawking and Charles Widmore. Ultimately, Aaron will be the most important component of the war between Jacob and Esau.

I think I realize now what is so special about Desmond. He has the ability to make fate...late. Fate will do what it wants, but since Desmond has the ability to see fate's plan and set it off course, it must sometimes course correct. Think about Charlie’s tape on his hands from Season 1, it turned “fate” into “late,” which was an Easter egg for what we are seeing unfold. The universe has a plan, but there is something about Desmond and his overexposure to the electromagnetic radioactive wave that allows him to see this plan.

The events are always as they occur, making it a WHH scenario. Just because things don't go 100% according to the schedule of the universe, doesn't mean it's an alternate timeline, it's just another path to the same result. It’s like we have a friend, we’ll call him Johnny Fate, says that he’s going to meet us at the mall at 5 pm. Johnny had a plan to be there right on time, but he had to stop and get gas on the way. When he went to the gas station and went to pay, he had problems with his credit card and had to go inside. When inside, there was a customer ahead of him named Johnny Hume, who took a very long time to find a pen and write his check. Johnny Fate made it to the mall, but he was 15 minutes late, all because of Johnny Hume. This is similar to Desmond and his impact on fate, he can make it late. Just because Johnny Fate was 15 minutes late, does not mean it is an alternate reality, it’s just life not going 100% as planned.

The characters on our show, many of them, believe that they can change the past and create a future different from the one we’ve seen. Sayid thought he could change things by shooting Ben, Eloise thought she had to work to make thing happen the way they did, Faraday thought he could detonate the bomb and Hurley thinks he can move the final battle of the Empire Strikes Back to Kashyyyk instead of Endor. Despite their efforts, everything that happens, despite how much they try or don't try, continues to prove that what they did in the past is what has happened all along. It IS their present, and they have free will to do whatever they want, we’ve just seen the outcome already. Season 5 was a flash “present.” Just because the characters on LOST think they can change things doesn't mean that the audience has to.

Think of it this way and it makes a whole lot more sense. After shooting her son and leading Jack and Sayid to the jughead, Eloise gets knocked out and acquires Daniels notebook. The notebook talks about the serious radioactive energy in the jughead and how it could offset the serious electromagnetic energy in the island, located where the Swan station is/was. When the incident began, it would have been huge enough to kill everyone in the island. Yet, the jughead bomb was detonated right when the incident started and the radioactive energy offset the electromagnetic energy and there was just a big flash of light, and the island wasn’t destroyed. After this flash of light, the losties are back in their time (2007) and the folks back in 1977 build the Swan station to keep the magnetic energy at bay. When Jacob said, “they’re coming,” he was talking about the losties. The reason Richard thinks he saw them die is because they were never found after the flash of li! ght that was caused by the bomb/EM energy.

I’ve always believed that the energy on the island is significant and is part of the balance that holds our world together. If the island were to be destroyed, I’ve thought that it would result in destruction to the rest of the world. This is why we’ve always thought of the consequence of not pushing the button in the Swan to be the end of the world.

Radzinsky is left to keep the energy back at the Swan because he was so insistent on digging and causing the potential problem. The scientists at Dharma try to prevent any more incidents from occurring, but they have learned something from the first incident, that the energy can be offset by radioactive energy, so the outer core of the jughead is used as a failsafe to be turned in the event that the energy at the Swan becomes unstable. They also conveniently find the jughead core down at Horace's house, but I think Eloise maybe became insistent to help Dharma construct the Swan station failsafe device, going off of Daniel's notes of course. Perhaps this is what resulted in Eloise being casted off of the island, for working with Dharma.

Eloise knows that the very fact that her son goes to the island is the very reason they get the notebook and also the reason the world doesn't perish during the first incident. This is the only reason she was willing to send her son to the island knowing that she was going to kill him in the past.

She doesn't know what is going to happen post 2005 because it is outside of the timeloop. She may in fact have known that she would be visited by Jack, Ben, etc. at the Lamp Post station because it was in Daniels notebook that they had traveled to the past as well. Suffice to say, Eloise was at the Lamp Post waiting for them to show up. Thing is, now that she has sent them off to the past on Ajira flight 316, she doesn't know what will happen next. She knew that Desmond would be safe up to a point, but now she can provide no information about the future because we are outside of the time loop and outside of the scope of anything that can be deduced from Daniel’s notebook.

Season 6 will not be about playing out everything we’ve seen in different ways. There is no time for it and there is so much that needs to be addressed regarding Jacob and the MIB. It would also be jumping the shark and would be inconsistent with what we’ve seen all along. There are many other events that point to a self consistent timeline as well, i.e. Ethan (would not be alive if Sawyer and Juliet weren’t there all along), Ben (would not be such a crazy manipulative “Other” if he hadn’t been shot by Sayid and saved by Kate), Charlotte (had the memory of Daniel talking to her as a child all along), Daniel (who spoke to young Charlotte no matter how many times he said he wouldn’t…”I’m not supposed to have chocolate before dinner.”), Eloise (who shot her son from the future back in 1977, only to send him there in 2004), Pierre Chang (who’s arm was apparently crushed during the incident, as we knew it would), and Danielle (who’s French team compli! ed with the story she had described all along and who would have gone inside the temple with her crew if Jin hadn’t stopped her).

Aside from the proof in the people, we also have the proof in the set and the actions. The Risk game that Hurley and Sawyer were playing before getting attacked by Keamy and Co., is still intact and unfinished. The runway that Ben had built in 2004 was there in 2007. The overall state of the island is compliant with everything we’ve seen. Just because a processing center sign and a picture of old Dharma recruits wasn’t seen by our characters earlier, doesn’t mean they weren’t there all along. A radio signal that comes from a previous time is par for the course on our island as well. Remember back when Hurley and Sayid were listening to music from the 50’s through the radio? Hurley mentioned jokingly that it could be from another time, but little did he know how right he was; another little Easter egg for the more attentive audience. I also believe that the crate from a food drop that ended up in 2004 was supposed to be sent in to the 70’s, but came in on ! the wrong bearing.

It takes a little acceptance of “memory issues” and “course correction” to understand how it all works. There are also some ontological paradoxes that exist within Lost, such as the compass or the setting used on Faraday’s machine in Oxford. Along with those things, it is an intelligible basic paradox adverse self consistent concept of time travel without parallel universes.

So we’re back to WHH vs. ALT. I tend to be one who isn’t invested in either side and am just enjoying the ride of the show. However, my impression is that WHH is the rule up until a certain point. Then some event occurred to make time loop on the island. Eloise, Widmore and perhaps Jacob and MIB know about this. And at least Eloise and Widmore are trying to fix the situation, partly through Daniel. My guess is the first iteration started with the incident without the bomb.

At this point Eloise and Widmore are on the island and may have access to Jacob. Eventually they both leave and Eloise gives birth to Daniel. Eloise and Widmore recognize Daniel’s abilities and push him into doing experiments with time travel. Eventually Daniel goes to the island and starts trying to fix things. But WHH and time continues to loop on the island.

At some point Jacob steps in and helps by visiting and touching our losties, thus bringing them to the island. Now I don’t know if they have been looping for awhile too. I haven’t watched that much to know. But I am assuming that in season six there will be a resolution of the loop and WHH will stop.

Eloise says as much just after 316 takes off for the island when she says that for the first time she doesn’t know what happens. So to me, something significant has changed. I just don’t know what that is. A guess: it’s taking Locke’s body back to the island. Or maybe Ben never went back before. I can’t remember if Eloise knows he was on the plane. But we do know that MIB now has found his loophole to kill Jacob, and Ben and Locke are involved.

A side note: I keep wondering why the location of Ben’s wound (when he’s shot by Sayid) changes from 1 episode to the next. That’s just too big to be a continuity error. Anyway I can’t make sense of it. Maybe someone else can.

I think some of the answers lie in Faraday’s Journal. I wrote a theory about it awhile back and am including it again for reference.

I opened the link and wrote the theory in word next to it so I could try to be accurate. If you are interested I suggest you copy the theory onto word or similar application and place it beside the notebook page. It will make more sense then.

I have labeled what I think are significant lines 1,2 and 3 and the important circles, A,B,C and D. The letters make a rectangle. These letters and numbers are not on the map, but I included them for, hopefully, better understanding. So here goes.

6 lines start from the same circle in the upper left corner (A) of the page. 4 Start at a circle (B) a little lower from the right corner. There is a circle (C) in the lower right and (D) on the lower left. Real Time is a straight line that goes from (A) to a circle (C) on the lower right and intersects with the space-time line on the way. It does not encounter any other circles. There are 2 Imaginary Time lines, one starting from A and one from (B). One (1) ends at the same circle (C) as the as Real Time line and crosses the Space-Time line It does not encounter any other circles on the way to (C). The other (2) ends up at another circle, then goes to the same destination (C) as real time, crossing the space-time line on the way. However, it (2) can veer off, ending at the lower left circle (D). Once there, it can make a sharp right turn, ending at the same circle (C) (destination) as the real time line. Unless that imaginary time line (2) veers towards the same ! destination as all the other time lines, it does not intersect with the space-time line and stops at (D).

Now, there is one line (3) on the far left of the page that intersects once with a circle and ends at what I call circle (D) directly below that circle. It does not intersect with the space-time line, so maybe it exists outside of space-time. However, that line (3) could also make a sharp right at (D) and head towards (C), the circle on the right where all the other lines end up. I think it is at this circle (D) where free will comes into play. Those who are there can either stay at that destination (D) or head toward the final destination (C) where all the other time lines end. I think (D) could represent the Island, outside space and time and our losties can either stay there or head to the ultimate destination. The decision will be theirs.

If these are time lines, I think the circles are the times Daniel has gone to so he can change things. But if you look at the page, all lines but one (3) lead to the same destination (C). So even if he changes something, the outcome is the same. This implies to me that Daniel keeps coming to the island, tries to change things, dies, his young mother gets his notebook, keeps it until he graduates, and gives it to him to try again. All we ever see is the first page. I think Daniel does travel through time to change things and then he makes revisions on the page or in the notebook. But so far in the series, WHH. Small changes do occur, but WHH. (we have seen evidence of this as Desomond tries to save Charlie.) I think his or Elle’s hope is to make a change in the final outcome. It is this change that we viewers will get to see as the series enters its final series.

I was inspired by two theories for this one, and they both have pretty high ratings and I tend to agree with most of what they are saying.

A lot of people have been speculating that Aaron grown up in the future is really Jacob, and that the scene with Jacob and the MIB where the Black Rock is coming to the island IS in the past but with at least Jacob (aka Aaron) being from THE FUTURE ok?

So, future, older Aaron is hanging out in the past and has been Jacob all along.

Whether you believe this or not, check out the theories that support this and they have pretty good evidence for it.

Now, this is where this theory merges with the theory up above.

The reason that JACOB TOUCHED ALL OF THE OCEANIC SIX EXCEPT FOR AARON, WHY? To be their CONSTANT.

But, guess what, HE NEVER TOUCHED baby Aaron because, you may be thinking, he was not born yet (in the past when he touched Sawyer). But I think that there is a reason for this.

Besides Aaron not being born during that time (in the past), Jacob still touched Hurley when he was getting in the car (pretty close to the present). This means, it was possible for him to TOUCH SOMEONE CLOSER TO THE AJIRA FLIGHT which means that:

HE COULD HAVE TOUCHED BABY AARON BUT CHOSE NOT TO (Who was off island and didn't come back to the island)

Why?

Because he can't be HIS OWN CONSTANT. Why touch all the other OCEANIC SIX but not BABY AARON?

I bet no one can give me a good reason. You can't argue "Oh well he was with Kate all of the time.."

Remember the episode where baby Aaron disappears in the grocery store? Then, is returned by a "stranger?" That could have been the moment that Jacob could have touched him. Or, when the men came to the door looking for custody of the child, Jacob wouldn't need all of that, he would just touch Aaron in a public place on his hand or something pretending to give him a lollipop in front of Kate; my point is that Jacob would not have to go out of his way to touch Aaron when he didn't with the other Oceanic Six.

But, there is no scene in "The Incident" where he tries to do this because that is a younger version of himself, and the reason that Daniel Faraday did not write down in his notebook, "DANIEL FARADAY IS YOUR CONSTANT," but chose Desmond was because it had to be someone else besides yourself obviously to be your constant.

Also, baby Aaron is VERY important to the mythos because of what the psychic told Claire. People have been messing with baby Aaron even before he was born. Ethan, the psychic, Charlie, etc. Something is special about that baby. The reason that Christian Shepherd takes the baby in the middle of the night and that Kate is in Jacob's Cabin is all very important. Think about it. Grandpa and Mom in their grandson and son's cabin...future Aaron. And, the fact that Ben kills Jacob with the knife and then the knife is stuck to a wall in Jacob's Cabin with cloth underneath it is all to show us that that really IS Jacob's Cabin, where he can manifest, or where MIB manifests himself but uses Christian and Claire to pretend he is really connected to baby Aaron/Future Jacob to those who have no idea what is really going on (Locke/Ben/Hurley). It may be a red herring.

So, In Season 6, we will see this reveal and everybody will be surprised.

*In the future, older Aaron comes to the Island to inquire about his past and connection to it. Just like Charlotte did. Next, something will happen where he will be forced to turn the FDW and he will end up in the ancient past of the future. The four toed statue will be constructed during that time and he will be housed there in the foot of the statue, stuck there forever and never aging (Like ALPERT) just waiting for his Mom and other Losties to crash on the island.

[Then, we will probably see that the MIB is Aaron's Constant and will probably be revealed to be someone like Charlie Pace...This is the part of my theory that I am just speculating upon.]*

Okay so the big question going into Season 6 is what happened to the survivors in 1977 after the hydrogen bomb detonated? I believe I have an answer that works very well with where the show could go for one final season.

I believe it's entirely possible that everyone near that bomb in 1977 is dead. This includeds Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Juliet, Sayid, Hurley, Jin, and Miles (as well as Radzinsky and Pierre Chang). There has been much discussion lately on who will die in the final season, and I think this is a way of subverting audience expectations.

I've had a theory for awhile now that Locke would somehow become the new Jacob on the island, and now that Jacob has been "killed" it seems possible that Locke will somehow take that role. There also needs to be a way for Jack/co. to get back to present time and while a final time flash seems possible due to the bomb, it seems like that would be too obvious. I also have ruled out any sort of wipe of the events of seasons 1-5...I don't see how the show could be any good wiping the slate clean.

As for evidence to support this theory, it's slim I know and I don't think this actually confirms anything, but Richard tells Sun that he remembers everyone quite distinctly because he saw them all die.

The main reason I think this would work is because it allows for lots of storytelling with other cast members who have died in previous seasons. If they're all dead, they will be able to interact with Boone, Shannon, Eko, Ana Lucia, Libby?, Charlie, Daniel (please bring him back), Charlotte, etc. This will also be a perfect way to reintroduce Claire and Christian, since most people believe that something similar (meaning a strange death) happened to Claire back in season 4. Bringing back most or all of these characters seems like an excellent way to bring the show full circle and end on a high note.

So to sum it up, my theory is that the hydrogen bomb killed everyone in 1977 (Rose/Bernard seem safe, since I think they will be revealed as Adam/Eve...and obviously Richard/Eloise/Charles and the Others are safe because they're still alive in 2007). Since they are dead, perhaps time will not restrict them (Christian could be at the Frozen Donkey Wheel back when the statue was still standing, and he obviously wasn't on the island then), and they will be able to go to 2007.

Obviously my idea has holes. If most of the cast is dead, how will we maintain any level of life/death stakes in the show, and keep emotional investment in dead people? Also, if the survivors are unstuck in time permanently, what's to keep them routed in 2007?

Ok, right after season 5 ended i wrote a theory about the reversed reality of the show. Briefly i will just sum up the key point of that thoery: LOST is all about people trying to change their lives to the best by controlling their reality (fate-destiny) and some people who just want to get at of it, and reteurn to their previous lives (science-free will.

on the island they have a chance to do that by facing enormously difficult tasks.

season 6 ill be a reverted reality for our losties. i beleieve that each and every one of them will be a better ''form'' of his/her older self. By saying that i mean they will have learned from their mistakes and will not repeat them. season 6 will be doing all things the other way, not just reacting like jack, but thinking like sawyer, not exploring trying to find the mystery like locke and falling into traps like sayid but making coordinated strategies for basic survival. the bottom line is that everyone has leraned their lesson and will not make the same mistkes ever again.
Reality might have also changed in the island. It is possible, that the reality, like the LOST logo, has changed from dark to light. everything will be clear in our losties minds now, enlgited. Just a small part like the LOST letters logo will be dark for them, their ultimate destiny in other words, but their paths to it will be clear-white. So the island has no more secrets for them, everyting is set for the end of the game and the white backgamon pieces have the majority of the table.

Everything will be different maybe even reversed. Charlie clear of drugs, Shannon and Boone together no fighting, Sayid not mass torturer, Sawyer not a conn man but an honsest bloke and all sorts of nice things. People rewarded from the island....

Here’s a theory that that assumes a few things. First of all, there’s an ongoing time loop with an established sequence of events (I’ll call this the correct timeline). Second, something happened this last time around that caused certain events/characters to be currently out of place. The major divergence from the correct timeline was the O6 getting off the island. Although most players have returned to play their proper roles, there are still variations, or variables, that are out of place. That’s why Eloise Hawking said that for the first time in a long time, she doesn’t know what will happen next.

Here’s what I think the correct timeline looks like. The Oceanic 815 passengers crash on the island, fight with the Others, the freighter make contact, some Losties head back to the freighter on a helicopter, but the difference is that the helicopter never gets separated from the island. Instead the passengers stay on the island and flash like the others, eventually landing back in the 1970s and dying there at some point. Maybe Ben still moves the island messing up the timeline, and maybe John Locke is the one who fixes it. But the difference is there is not return trip for those two back to the island, because there are no Oceanic 6 to bring them back.

Let’s look at a few things: the Losties back in the 70s seem to be have been there before, and it appears that Daniel Faraday was shot by his mother before as well. I believe he had the idea for the bomb last time too, and that the bomb, rather than causing the incident, actually lessened the damaging effects and allowed the Dharma Initiative to contain the electromagnetic leak. He saved the world, which is why him mother thought it was so important that he work on his research and return to the island.

Sun, Frank, Ben and John didn’t flash back to the 70s. Why? Because according to the correct timeline, Sun died in pregnancy and Ben and Locke are off the island. I don’t know what might have happened to Frank in the original timeline, maybe he was killed.

Claire and Aaron, according to Desmond’s vision, were supposed to have gotten on the helicopter. Maybe it was Claire, instead of Sawyer, who was on the helicopter. Claire wouldn’t have jumped, so the helicopter either crashed in the water sooner or was forced to turn back to the island.

So now we have a scenario where Sun, dead Locke inhabited by the MIB, and Ben are all on the island and variables. Jacob’s been killed. Desmond never should have gotten off the island. Claire and Aaron probably would have been living in the Dharma Initiative with Sawyer and group.

So why did things change this time around? My money is on the reemergence of dead Christian Shephard, with a change of clothes. I think the original appearances of Christian were of the smoke monster, but since he appeared in Jacob’s cabin, he’s been something else. I can think of three scenarios: he’s an agent of Jacob, he’s an agent of the MIB, he’s actually Christian who made a deal with TPTB to be allowed to come back and influence events in an effort to save Jack, Claire and Aaron.

815 Plane Lands or crashes on Island. then sequence of common events and then island is moved then 845 people skip through time. then some land in 1974 lock in 2008 then oceanic 5 come back to 1977.

In Lost world or in our world two thing stand out "religion and science".

Science : it tears apart each inch of thing and put out the sequence or mechanism.

Religion: it incorporates thing with out knowing but true thing(some are put to side track because of "want and greed" this is important)

Each one got its own significance. without incorporating thing we can't move forward which id done by religion or belief. without totally immersing in it we are not going know mechanism of things(i.e science).

Why did sawyer and co lie to 1974?
it difficult for people to understand new thing until there is a concrete proof or say it in the name of religion or god.

Before Island is moved every one was in same time line. But How come Lock is not in same Time Line?

Ben Moves Island. Lock and sawyer Skips time. then Sawyer lands in 1974. the Lock come in real world. brings Oceanic 5 to island. some land in 2008 some in 1977. sawyer is 1977. jack is in 1977. sun is in 2008 every one in their place.

I think Lock was lucky or he had a greater ability to survive the crash because of what he went through his life with immense pressure. Just because guy falls from sky i touch him he is still alive doesn't make me powerful.
Why are these never Aging. because they skipping time line like 815 but greater skipping than others like 10 years or 100 years but in a linear fashion unlike (815).


Now Fight is between people who think they are god and between people who think everything is natural.

I don't think Lost is really telling us it has to be either WHH or ALT. The question here is how can you change something when you don't know what originally happened? If Jack knew that the incident never involved the bomb, he could think involving the bomb would change things. But if he knew the bomb was used, would he still try to use it? No. It's just what Miles said about the best thing could be just to do nothing. They don't know what happened. They are just reacting very emotionally by the way, desperately trying to change things. It's a guess on their part. (Unless there is more info in that journal they haven't shared with us. Even Daniel's research on the Dharma Initiative could possibly not be accurate. Any history he'd read of the incident could have covered up the fact that the "hostiles" were there at that time and had caused it.) The real question we have here is whether this particular piece of fic! tion is going to go with an alternate time line next season. Personally, I don't think they have enough time to tie all that together and with all the confusion for some with the time travel, I don't think they would make it that complex. But this doesn't mean it isn't POSSIBLE in the Lost world.

I believe the little changes we've seen here and there (items moving in a refrigerator, photos on the wall changing position) are signs that someone is messing with the time line. This is why Hawking and Widmore are so concerned. The Oceanic 6 returning home was also something that changed. But they course corrected it by sending them back. This was important because whatever they did HAD to occur or it would endanger us all.
Part of this game has just been that, tampering with time and course correcting as it goes. So I think the show does try to give us alternative realities, but the incident was so important it couldn't be allowed to go down any other way.

Hawking didn't sacrifice her son as much as she did her relationship with her son as she pushed him in his work. She was hoping he would find a way out. She was hoping to change things which again means they can be changed.

The real question again is-what caused the incident? Juliet hitting a piece of a hydrogen bomb or just Radzinsky being stupid? If we knew the answer to that, then it would be easier to speculate about season 6.

I think the new season of LOST will start out much like the end of LOST: Via Domus ended. I think there was a very specific reason the game ended with all of them at the plane crash again and I think that when the new season starts we'll see that Jack wakes up much like he did in the Pilot at the plane crash of Oceanic Flight 815. I disagree with Faraday when he said they could change the future, beacuse if they did Locke would've never came onto the island, and Jacob would still be alive. I think that all the things that happened with Locke and Alpert at the end of Season 5 really did happen regardless of what happened with Jack because you have to remember that Jack and the Losties arn't creating new things in time, because they were always there in the 70's with the Dharma Initiative, the photograph that Sun and Lapidas found proves it. The only thing that will change now is that the Plane will crash as it in! nevitably has to, and Jack will be pitted against an 'undead' Locke in the struggle of Good vs. Evil, which the show has been aiming at this entire time. And just like Miles said, the nuclear blast was the actual incident the entire time.

It’s 1977. Two guys named Hugo and Miles are having a conversation about how they’ve traveled back in time. If 1978 hasn’t happened yet, if “The Empire Strikes Back” hasn’t been made, if flight 815 carrying Hugo hasn’t crashed, and if a freighter carrying Miles hasn’t found its way to the island: how is it possible for these two men to have memories of meeting one another?

In short, if the event of their meeting does not yet exist, how can they remember it?

The only way you can remember something happening is if it has happened. The incidents of time travel occurred in 2004 and 2007. Unless 2004 and 2007 have taken place, then Hurley and Miles cannot be in 1977.

Therefore, this cannot be the way things have always been.

It’s a basic paradox involved in the very idea of time travel (it’s probably one reason why we haven’t been able to figure out how to do it yet) and why it remains the subject of the purist fiction. Whether or not the writers of “Lost” have considered this remains to be seen, but let’s assume for a moment that they have. I believe this is how history has played out:

Original Timeline: The Dharma Initiative conducts their experiments on the island unabated and incident-free. Sayid is not there to shoot Ben. Ben never becomes an Other. The Others never take back control of the island. The Lostaways crash on said island. Through a course of events we will never witness, possibly involving conflict with a still-constituted DI, the island instructs the Lostaways to turn the frozen donkey wheel and travel back in time.

Timeline #2: The DI sets up shop on the island. This time, our Lostaways are in 1977 with them. Sayid has yet to make it off the island, to be manipulated by Ben, and, possibly, they have never met. Sayid does not shoot Ben. Ben never becomes an Other. The Lostaways attempt to cause the incident (perhaps to prevent their future misery and the hands of the DI) but fail because there is no Juliet to detonate their bomb. The DI maintains control of the island. The Lostaways crash on the island. Conflict between the DI and the 815 survivors – including some between Ben and Sayid specifically instigated by the island - ultimately results in the Lostaways traveling back in time.

Timeline #3: Sayid shoots Ben. Not having been forced into performing spinal surgery in the previous timeline, Jack decides to save his life. The Lostaways fail to cause the incident. The DI maintains control of the island. The Lostaways crash on the island. The island puts a tumor on Ben’s spine. Ben forces Jack to operate on him by kidnapping Kate. To put it mildly, this pisses Jack off (pun intended). Eventually, conflict again ensues and causes the Lostaways to travel back in time.

Timeline #4: Sayid shoots Ben. This time, Jack refuses to save his life. Ben is taken to the Others who adopt him as their own. But the Lostaways again fail to cause the incident (no Juliet). However, with Ben as their inside man, the Others are able to regain control of the island. The Lostaways crash on the island. Events very similar to what we the audience have witnessed take place. Conflict with the Others and the freighter cause the Lostaways to travel back in time.

Timeline #5: Sayid shoots Ben. Ben becomes an Other. The Lostaways fail to cause the incident. The Others regain control of the island. The island creates a fertility problem. Richard recruits Juliet. Ben falls in love with her. Even though she fails at her assigned task, Ben conspires to keep her on the island. The Lostaways crash, yada yada yada, and travel back in time.

Timeline #6: Sayid shoots Ben. Jack refuses to save his life. Ben becomes an Other. Juliet causes the incident. All bets are off.

Now then, maybe there are other timelines with other not-so-attractive, non-blonde fertility experts who don’t have awesome cleavage. Timelines with Faraday; timelines without Faraday. With the Oceanic 6 leaving the island; without the Oceanic 6 leaving the island. Perhaps there were similar time loops necessary in order to get the hydrogen bomb to the island in the first place. Perhaps Kate wasn’t even on the original flight 815, but was eventually summoned by the island to give Ben the required leverage in order to manipulate Jack into performing his spinal surgery.

Maybe this is the sixth timeline, maybe it’s the six millionth. No man can say. But I’ve always thought of the island as a conscious being. I believe it retains the knowledge of previous versions of history and is taking measures to produce a different outcome.

Why? The cause can only be determined upon seeing the effect.



PS – If my son and my grandson are spinal surgeons, I better not end up in the s****iest rest home in California.

So alot of theories are floating around about how Eloise Hawking knows certain information about the past and future. To some extent, Widmore and Ben are also in the know... as well as Jacob and Black shirt, and its clear their predictions do come true for the most part.

But one thing that is not clear at all is the motive of these individuals, who is on whose side, what is at stake, and what is the fallout from one side winning over the other. these mysteries have us all looking to season 6 for answers, but I think as always there is more to be rehashed from the past shows that have already been presented to us.

Eloise Hawking's relationship with Desmond for example -- the well known scene in Flashes Before Your Eyes has been used by many WHH supporters to prove Eloise knows what the fated outcome is, and Desmond when given the opportunity to change the past doesn't, and the common explanation is that he can't change the past even if he tried. Let's examine this scene and things Hawking said the might point to a different conclusion that can be drawn before we make up our minds that ALT is not possible.

Lets go to the scene where Eloise meets up with Desmond in the ring shop in 1996 while Desmond is on a time flash, and she is suggesting that Desmond must not take the ring from her... the recap from lostpedia states:

"Desmond meets Ms. Hawking in the antique store where he attempts to buy Penny's ring. He is warned that he must not propose or else he will cause the end of the world."

more directly:

"Ms. Hawking tells the astonished Desmond that he isn't supposed to take the ring, because his not buying it led to his original fate of ending up on the island and turning the fail-safe key. She also states that "if you don't do those things, Desmond David Hume, every single one of us is dead."


OK... so is it that Eloise believes he cannot change the past because of his original fate, or is it that he can change the past but everyone would die in paradox if he did? These are two competing concepts meant to corner Desmond into submitting to her will, but they are mutually exclusive concepts as they relate to WHH vs ALT as we all would agree. Either your fate is your fate and you cannot change it (WHH) or if you are privileged enough you can change it (ALT) but you then flirt with the possibility that you cause a paradox. (but we also know Desmond is unique in this area, and I'm guessing so does Hawking)

Lets boil it down -- do you see these words from Eloise:

• original fate
• not supposed to
• every single one of us is dead

...this to me implies that it IS possible that desmond can change the past and Eloise believed he would unless she strong-armed him into submission that his fate is binding... perhaps just like was done to her in her past concerning Daniel (more on this in a minute).

So why would she threaten a paradoxical death for everyone if the universe really does course correct to fit a specific destiny and there's nothing to worry about?

It sounds to me like there are competing motives at work... and theres more to the story about why Hawking (and Widmore to an extent) are trying to manipulate Desmond's actions. They obviously know the chain of events to a certain point, how exactly is another matter... but the question remains -- if an original fate cannot be changed then why all the effort from Hawking to make sure Desmond does not meddle with it when he's flashing in the past?

Its like the scene in A Few Good Men where they give two stories as to why PFC Santiago was not transferred off the base -- was it because his life was in danger or was it because he was a substandard marine? There's more to this story that we're not being told, I promise you that.

Motive and manipulations are key to Lost, everyone has been both a manipulator and manipulated on the island... everyone has their own reasons why. but if you cant change things, then i would think there would be no battle for control.

yet -- there clearly is a battle happening, and Widmore tells us matter-of-factly that there is a battle happening -- and manipulation has been there all along of the pieces in play... the losties, desmond, faraday, lapidus, miles, llana, locke -- most all of the characters on the show have been utilized in some scheme or another. why is the question.

but again, assuming its a power play for control of the island, it would simply be because things can change (ALT) and the person in charge will benefit.

Now lets go deeper on Hawking and Widmore -- is Daniels journal that arrived on their laps in 1977 how they know what is going to happen in the future? isnt it possible Daniel spent his 3 years between 1974-77 furthering his research on the island, figuring out specific events that happened, cause and effect scenarios, and wouldn't he reasonably have stored that information in his journal? i mean we already know desmond is mentioned in there... so perhaps desmonds uniqueness has been known for quite some time by hawking and widmore, and who knows what other gems are in there that tell the secrets of this crazy timeline we're seeing unfold.

But back to Faraday -- we know Eloise killed her own son before he was born, clearly this would be a detrimental moment in ones life... so the fact that shes so gung-ho about a set desiny in general could be explained by that whole scene, hawking shooting her unborn son... so thats the premise of her destiny way of thinking. or it could be that she tried to break out of that chain of events and was coerced by someone else, possibly widmore... which may be why Hawking slapped him across the face when they spoke of sacrificing Faraday to that fate.

But here the thing -- this is something Daniel flat out disagrees with just before he dies in poetic fashion. He tells Jack their destiny is not on the island, that basically they were dragged into this situation by Hawking. Faraday also comes right out and says you can change things -- he realizes that now. "This is their present" was his mantra -- and I believe that means more than 'any one of us can die.' It means that they are still creating their future, even though they are in the past... which means ALT is still on the table -- which of course is the whole point of detonating the bomb.

Lets for a second look at the whole incident scenario -- when you compare the timing of 1977 to the original blast door map, you see some strange inconsistencies in the dates. there are shut down times of 1981 and 1984 due to the incident, 4-7 years after the bomb would have exploded and dr chang was dead set on evacuation of the island right at that time... it seems reasonable to question that the incident we saw in the finale is not necessarily the same incident referred to on the blast door map. further, chang originally said that the incident occurred shortly after experiments began, but in 1977 the swan was just being built -- clearly there is an inconsistency here. so if the incident in season 5 is not the exact same incident that was referred to in the swan --- then i think we could be dealing with another instance of ALT here. and if thats the case then its almost certain the bomb going off has effectively changed the course of future events.

Now -- I cant imagine how the bomb going off would transmit the losties back to 2007 to meet up with the rest of the Ajira crew, so i wont even go there. For all we know they wake up after the bomb explodes, they then get on the last departing sub -- and the "bumpy ride" that richard indicated would make up the sub ride will get them back to a more recent point in time, reuniting with the rest of the crew.

Ultimately -- the nature of the characters in leadership roles needs to be fleshed out more in season 6 and i think it will, and once that happens we will figure out everyones motives, who is on whos side, and whether or not people are champions of pure destiny or champions of personal destiny.

but i submit that if its the latter, personal destiny, then that means ALT is what everyone is after...

ALT is why widmore is shelling out a million dollars for the log book, why ben is lying about every single thing on the island, why hawking is working her butt off down in the lamp post figuring out where the island will be... and who knows what the ultimate game is between jacob and black shirt, it could certainly be ALT.

i think its more than reasonable to conclude at this point that ALT is possible via the island, so the goal of the characters in power, and the nature of the game we are seeing --- is control over how time gets manipulated.

This is something I've been thinking about a lot. It plays out a hell of a lot better in my head, and this is the best way I can describe it.

First of all, I think it makes sense that the bomb detonated and the future is now changed, to an extent. The impact of either finale climax is enough to change things, but think of it this way: Time is indeed a record--a CD, perhaps, set to read-only. But the reason why the plan to blow up the hatch works this time, is because at the very same time this is happening, Jacob is killed, switching the disc off of read-only mode, if you will. It creates a chip in the record and once it comes around again, the needle breaks and the record skips off completely. The impact of Jacob dying AND the bomb going off must have an effect on the timeline. We were shown both of these events happening back to back in the episode for a reason beyond simply being held off until the end of the episode.

An opening shot of the beach where Vincent runs to meet Sawyer and crew in the previous episode. Sustain for a few moments, when suddenly screams are heard. Cue obligatory LOST intense/chase music. Jump cut to the hatch, circa 1977 with Jack and the gang fighting to keep Sawyer away from the pit, trying to get as far away from the blast radius as possible. No significant dialogue, just yells and 'We've gotta get outta here!'s. After about a minute, the detonation occurs. Light consumes everything, and fades to black. LOST opening title, but as it zooms in as per usual, the sound of a plane landing is heard, not the usual title sound.

No commercial, immediately go to a shot of a plane landing in an American city. Cut to inside the airport as people start leaving the plane, meeting families or just continuing about their business. The plane is inspected as normal, and prepped for its refueling and so on. Cut to a shot of the passenger list being signed off and confirmed (note that I am very unaware of the process that takes place after a landed plane has been cleared). There are several names with lines through them.

"That's it?" One of the attendants speaks to another, revealed to be Jill (Ben's butcher shop cohort).

Jill: "That's the last of them."

Attendant: "And the cancellations?"

Shot of the passenger list on a table, camera slowly moves up the page as dialogue continues.

Jill: "..We'll find them."

Attendant: "You'd better. Because he's not going to be happy about-"

Jill: "We'll find them."

Cue traditional suspense horn music in typical LOST fashion as the camera scrolls up the passenger list to reveal several of the crossed out names, including Jack Shephard, Kate Austen, Charlie Pace, etc.

Cut to commercial.

It is not a real theory, it's just my assumption.
Walt. What do you think about him? He is a strange boy. There is something fishy in this character. Don't you think so?

Here are my arguments:

1)In the first season he touched Locke's hand and asked him to forget about a bunker. He said it's something bad, if I'm not mistaken. But if Locke didn't open this bunker, Desmond would commit suicide and all people on the island would die too (nobody could save the world);

2) The second season: Walt appeared in the jungle when Sayid and Shannon had a date (but we know that at the same time Walt was with his father on the raft). Shannon tried to catch Walt and she was killed by Ana Lucia.

3) Bea Klugh told Michael, that Walt is special, and asked him unusual questions such as appearing in the places where he couldn't be, illnesses and headaches. Maybe she supposed that Walt has dual personality? ;))) It's a joke of course. But does anybody also think that her questions were very, very strange? What did the Others want from Walt? Ben said this boy was in the Jacob's list. In the list should be only good people. But is it exactly this case? As for me I'm not sure...

4) The 3d season: when Ben shot Locke, and John was lying in the mass grave, appeared Walt, who told that Locke had work to do;

5) Another problem is Walt's ability to kill birds or to make them be dead. The Others were afraid of a little boy. He scared the wits out of them;

6) And one more interesting thing is Walt's dream about Locke. In the 5th season Walt told Locke that he had a dream: Locke was in the suit, on the island, and some people wanted to kill him. I believe Walt meant the situation, which took place in the last episodes. So he had seen not Locke but MIB, right? So he had seen the future? I'm pretty sure it could be possible.

And here is my theory:

I think that Walt is connected, someway, with MIB or/and with the island. I suppose that Walt, who appeared suddenly in the different places, wasn't real Walt. Usually we see appearing of the dead people, but Walt is the only person which is alive and at the same time has this doubtful "double". Why? Was it the reincarnation, split personality in the metaphorical sense of the word? Such my ideas seem to me rather stupid. Has to be another explanation of this phenomenon.

So I would like to know your opinions :)

As we all know, the idea of having a constant (on the show) is presumably a way for someone to save themselves when they have begun experiencing the "side effects" created by the island's displacement in time. But what if this idea, like many others on the show, was just a vague introductory explanation which will eventually become a concept that is rooted directly to the show's bigger mysteries. For example, once the time flashes started happening we were led to believe that it was due to some kind of error made which needed to be fixed. later on in season 5 we begin to understand that there was more to this idea presumably that specific characters were being sent to certain times because there was something in those times that they had to accomplish.

ANYWAY...

What if the idea of finding your constant had nothing to do with surviving but instead was a way to bridge one's connection between two seperate timelines?

To further this idea lets take a step backwards.

For this theory's sake, let's say that when an event occurs that causes a break in the timeline, an alternate timeline comes into play, which does not cancel out the original timeline, but rather, runs parallel with it. An example of this sort of event would be such as the wheel being turned.

STAY WITH ME

Now as there are 2 or maybe even 3 alternate timelines running parallel with each other, the constant can be a way of returning to or travelling between these timelines.

Daniel Faraday noted that if anything went wrong that desmond would be his constant. This is because Desmond coming to see him at Oxford happened before any of these breaks in the original timeline.

Now onto what this means for our favorite characters. I believe this was the symbolism of showing Jacob touching each of them at points in their lives before any of these timelines. This was Jacob's way of implanting himself within all of them as their constants so that when things got to where they are now in 2007, he knew that they would all be able to return to this timeline.

PS. i still believe that in 2007 where Jacob was killed is not simply 3 years after the plane crash but a copmplete alternate timeline to what we have been watching for the first 4 seasons.

I've watched Lost for 2 years. I caught up on seasons 1,2 and 3 between seasons 4 and 5. I'm not sure the non linear viewing format is the best, but it is what it is (WHH). It seems to me that the central theme of the show is about "loss" or rather how we react to loss. Almost every character has lost a parent, mostly fathers, or another close loved one.These characters have gone through so much pain and I don't think it is in vain just to serve the machinations of demigods who are puling their strings.

I believe the main characters will find redemption. I also believe they will overcome the plans of both Jacob and MIB. I believe they will find a way to release their pain by refusing to be pawns, like Locke and Ben have been. In fact I think you will find the players including Ben and Locke(the real Locke) working together and sacrificing to overcome the prison they find themselves in. The model for this is Charlie. Charlie gave his life for the greater good and he ended well. Charlie overcame heroin addiction and the demise of his career to become a better person. I believe the losties will find redemption in each other. The test will be if they can overcome personal pain and agendas to work and sacrifice together. Bernard said: the most important thing is loving each other and being together.

It's Widmore and his ilk who want a war for control of the island. I don't believe the losties will play this game. In this game, if you fight, you fail. The lesson is: paradox rules. The losties job is to prevent the war. They will appear to lose
but in the end they will win and be redeemed. Refusing to play the kill and destroy game will break the cycle. Jacob wants this to end. MIB says he wants this human intervention to end, but he's lying. He hates humanity and wants to see them suffer and be destroyed. His lack of patience will doom him.

Desmond, as Faraday said, is "miraculously special".

This is due to his turning the failsafe key and the hatch imploding.

Further, desmond is basically a closed time curve himself, thats how he can time flash, see glimpses, act on the past and not cause any paradoxes but effect the past to suit his needs in the future as well.

This uniqueness stems from the island.

The island allows you to manipulate time (dr chang), exactly how we dont know, but at the same time no paradoxes can occur with the variables on the island (people). think of the island like a a giant timeline computer that is fixed on the edge of a black hole, effectively becoming a nexus for all possible time line scenarios... extending the known laws of physics on time travel and perhaps opening the door to other dimensions of time, or possibly even other "worlds" like in the Many Worlds timeline scenario in quantum physics. The Many Worlds scenario may explain via quantum physics how the losties all survived the plane crash to begin with, for example.

First question: as soon as daniel comes to the island his memory becomes healed because... why? And further, how does Widmore know the island will heal Faraday's memory?

Because of the new ALT timeline started in 1996 by desmond time flashing from '04 to '96 with new information from future Faraday to be used in past Faradays experiments in his lab at Oxford -- this series of events between desmond and faraday across time initiated a CHANGE in Faradays actual mental state, both in a new past timeline and therefor in a hypothetical future that has been actuated on the island.

So let's go a bit further here to illustrate what i mean -- and i will explain how ALT has happened due to the actions of faraday and desmond, how it benefited both of them in the past and future... and of course it ultimately gets the losties saved.

ask yourself how daniel faraday, after years and years of testing his time flashing device at 20 times a day (as he said in The Constant) with his head unprotected... effectively RUINING his memory over the years......

how when he came to the island did he magically regain his ability to think clearly? how exactly was daniel healed... island magic?

in a way... but it has to do with ALT as well.

I submit that faraday getting healed by coming to the island is not due to "magic" per se, its that he was able to give himself a shortcut across time from the island... the shortcut was his conclusive research that he sent via desmond to his past self. this would create a new hypothetical timeline (in invisible space possibly) that would not exist anywhere and not be accessible from anywhere but from the island.

isn't it possible that the automatic 'course correcting' nature of the island allows for the rebooting of consciousness of the people on the island after a change to their timeline has occurred? we have seen that exact rebooting scenario happen with desmond -- who is himself now a closed timeline curve. the specific scene where we see this happen is when faraday implanted a NEW memory in him at the swan hatch while faraday and crew were time flashing around on the island... faraday flashed into ~2002 and told desmond they needed help, that he was the only one that could help, and that he had to find eloise hawking... the sky flashed and instantly across time, in 2007 desmond got the message.

So back to faraday -- consider his mind healing a side effect, and evidence that the past has changed due to desmond acting upon events differently in 1996 while time flashing, changing the way the events originally went down.

Here is the timeline change for Faraday from The Constant:

in 2004, Faraday from the island gave 'unstuck' desmond instructions to go see faraday at oxford back in 1996 with the new settings of 2.342 @11 to make his experiments work at that time...

right here -- that is what creates a new timeline of events for faraday... and that conclusion can be supported in several logical ways:

1) it eliminates the need for faraday to continue testing eloise the rat at various frequencies, searching for the right combination over a long series of experiments that have been since proven to destroy his brain and memory... the shortcut future Fardady gives himself in the past basically saves his brain back in 1996. a new and improved consciousness has just been created for Faraday due to desmonds abilities.

so instead of searching for the right combination of numbers, doing more and more trials... the NEW information from the future frees faraday from that old chain of events, fixing his memory in the future on the island where that new timeline has been accessed.

actually he can, although he needed to come to the island and meet desmond to help him do it... and Widmore knew that somehow (back to this in a minute)

2) eloise the rat -- she ran the maze when faraday unstuck her using the data Desmond told him to use, data he could not have ever known unless it came from future Faraday himself... and the experiment worked. so what? here's what -- the rat died from temporal displacement about an hour later. so why did the rat die if everything worked? The reason eloise the rat died after she ran the maze is simply this -- Faraday said he was going to teach her to run the maze in about an hour.... but once desmond came into the picture in 1996 he altered that course of events, and Faraday never did teach her to run the maze. when desmond woke up 75 minutes later after passing out (flashing back to 2004) the rat was dead. The simple fact is eloise never completed the timeline of events she was 'supposed to' because Faraday never never DID teach her to run the course and complete that loop... all due to desmond passing out for 75 minutes and daniels been busy on the chalk board fired up by ! the working experiment -- so faraday never completed the original event loop so the rat dies from a paradoxical hemorage. It's not random in this case you see -- the rat was never able to come back to the timeline she departed from due to desmond changing the way events unfolded in 1996 -- and because of that she died.

The same rationale can extended and used to explain Minkowski's death from temporal displacement -- the present he departed from was not the same as the one he was trying to flash back into because of desmond making changes to the past at the very same time. and because they were outside the sphere of the island and were not unique like desmond -- the rat and minkowski were not able to stop the displacement and ultimately their demise.

But what about The Constant? you need the constant right?

3) Penny -- desmond never ever had penny's new phone number -- so when she moved to get away from desmond in 1996 after they broke up and make a clean break, desmond had to track her down and get her new phone number. why? per faraday's instructions, he had to be able to contact someone in both 1996 and 2004 to stop his displacement and save his own life. Think about this -- unless desmond is special and able to change the events of the past and retain that information in the future on the freighter, he doesn't survive the temporal displacement. so by tracking penny down and demanding her number and telling her he will call in 8 years -- he is able to set a course for change to be actualized in the future in 2004 and is able to save his own life with that new information. but more than his own life it turns out, getting in touch with penny is also what lets her know to come looking for him to attempt a rescue. so not only do the events of the constant heal daniels memory, it! heals desmond in that he finally gets to be with penny, escaping what he thought was his fate being bound to that island.... and it gets the oceanic 6 saved and off the island. that is a major change all initiated in 1996 via desmond's time flashing and actualized on the island in 2004.


4) Eloise Hawking -- the last time we see her she comments that for the first time in a long time she has no idea what will happen next. This could mean many things but one possible explanation is that a change to the fated course of events has happened because of desmond and her ability to see the future has been cut short. It could also mean that she was using Faraday's journal to predict the future all along, although that would not explain how she knew about the man with red shoes dying, or other things of that nature. so barring any further explanation that might expound upon the nature of Hawkings ability to see the future -- we are left to believe that a change has occurred and Hawking is left scratching her head about what is to come next.

Taking all this into consideration should atleast re-ignite your curiosity about the writing of this show, how ALT has likely been a key ingredient all along carefully disguised in ambiguity, and the plot has been masterfully crafted to cover up any clear answers about whether what we are being presented constitutes as WHH or whether ALT is indeed possible and has been happening all along. I believe the myriad manipulations by people in power on and off the island throughout the plot of Lost indicates a motive for change of certain outcomes, and the loophole to get around the natural laws of earthly physics resides on and around the island itself.

Desmond's absorption of the island's electromagnetic properties when he turned that fail-safe key did indeed make him 'miraculously special' -- and his uniqueness has been critical to introducing ALT timelines from within a base framework of WHH, time lines that are accessible specifically from the island.... and the fallout of conflicts inherent to course correction is what he have been witnessing ever since.

As we have now seen there are two Lockes. One inhabited by Esau and one inhabited by poor old dead John Locke.

The other 'living dead' that we have seen - Alex, Christian, Horace may have also been Esau inhabiting the dead.

We have also seen that characters can literally watch themselves if the time line is fractured.

Both of these phenomenon prove that it is possible for two versions of the same person to exist at the same time. This is what the final series is about resolving.

Daniel suggested that exploding jughead near the hatch will reset the timelines. Jack certainly believes that with the explosion there will be a chance that the flight does arrive in LA.

My theory is that the explosion does allow for the flight to complete its journey to LA however it doesn't mean that the Losties disappear from their parallel world.

So while the flight touches down in LA the Losties are still left on the island.

Let me start off by saying that I know very little about thermonuclear devices or electromagnetism, so this part of my theory isn't exactly "scientifically though-out". But with that said, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's entirely possible that even though it appears Juliet was successful in detonationg the nuke, that maybe it won't have the catastrophic results that we would expect a nuclear bomb to have.

I'm not sure exactly how it could happen (again I'm no expert on the properties of nuclear science). But what if the bomb had some kind of crazy reaction with the electromagnetism, that somehow negated both the electromagnetism AND the radiation for a short time. And kept it at bay underneath the ground just long enough (108 minutes?) for the DHARMA people to have a chance to contain it, by pouring the concrete. (Remember Faraday did actually want the 'Others' to pour concrete over it to begin with. And the Chernobyl incident, which was a nuclear leak, was also contained by concrete)

If you think about it, whether Jack was always meant to bring that bomb to the Swan site, or not; There still was ALWAYS gonna be an 'Incident' involving the electromagnetism. So SOMETHING would have had to happen to subdue it long enough for them to pour the concrete over it. And they never would have been able to get close enough, if it never stopped drawing metal towards it, would they?

Anyway, that's my theory on what might have really happened with the infamous 'Incident'! :) Here is my theory on what could happen in the opening scene of season 6! Enjoy! :)


Season 6 opens with a shot of Jack's eyeball. It pans back a little, and we clearly see that he is on an airplane. He has a look of satisfaction on his face. His plan has worked! We even see other familiar faces all around the plane, including some of the characters who had died on the Island. But then his expression turns to surprise. He still has his memories of everything that happened since the last time he was on that plane!

All of a sudden he hears someone say "Hello, Jack". He turns around, and two rows behind him, there sits John Locke, grinning ear to ear. Jack gives him a friendly nod of the head, and turns back around, thinking to himself "How does he know my name? I don't recall meeting him before the plane crash". A few moments later, John walks up and sits next to him (meanwhile the audience is thinking "Shouldn't he be in a wheelchair?").

Jack, still in disbelief, says to him "I'm sorry. Do we know each other?". Locke chuckles, and replies "Jack, if I didn't know that this was all a dream, I'd actually be offended, considering everything you and I went through together. Did you know that you were the only person who actually came to my funeral?"

Jack has a look of horror on his face. He simply cannot believe it. The look of shock and disappointment on his face can't even be described with words. He can't even think of anything to say, so he just stares at Locke, with his jaw on the floor. Locke just grins, and says "I'm afraid it's true, Jack. I'm sorry to have to tell you this. But you're still on the Island.....And all this you see here? It's your conscience re-living this moment of your life. Our plane should actually be crashing any minute now".

Jack, of course, starts to have a panic attack, when he hears this. Locke pats him on the shoulder and tells him "It's OK, Jack. We'll be moving on before the crash. You've already witnessed that before. No since going through it again, right? And besides. There are much more important things I'd like to show you."

Still seeing the look of panic of Jack's face, he sees Cindy and tells her "I think we're gonna need a couple drinks". Then we see the opening Lost logo!

From that point, we could get an episode or two, where Locke takes Jack to various places (Ebenezer Scrooge, style), showing him the terrible consequences of what might have happened, had his plan actually succeeded.

So what do you guys think? I think this could be a pretty interesting scenario, if something similar to this happens! :)

I believe that the cabin was never jacobs, but instead was the MIB. I think the ash that surrounded the cabin was there to keep him in the circle. This is why Illana and her crew were upset that the ring was broken, they knew that he was out and messing things up. I also think that when they called frank a canidate it was for jacob to assume his identity like the MIB did as locke becuase they might of known that since the ring was broken jacob was going to die or at least the form he was in at the time.

Either this or it is jacobs cabin and although the show showed Illana and jacob meeting it was mis direction and she is really working for the MIB and thats why they burned the cabin down. Its possible that she started working with jacob but was later approached by the MIB, and the show has yet to show it though.

In the past month I have posted a couple of theories that implied a new group of characters would be introduced in season 6. A common response I received goes something like this: "That's crazy talk. We only have 17 episodes left. That isn't nearly enough time to introduce new characters." Some went so far as to threaten to stop watching the show if new characters are revealed! This post is a rebuttle to that line of thinking and posits the theory simply that there will be new characters introduced in Lost's last season.

To begin with, the writers thought it perfectly fine to introduce new characters in Jacob and Blackshirt with only 18 episodes left (technically 19, if the two parts of The Incident are treated as two separate episodes). We may or may not see J & B again, but it is hard to argue that they are not critical characters to the Lost story. If such important characters can be introduced so late in the series, why would it be strange to believe that other important characters would follow?

Part of the brilliance of the show lies in the economical sense of the writers, directors, and actors. They have shown again and again an extrodinary talent for communicating much in a very short time. Think of S2,E7 "The Other 48 Days" - in one episode we have a full story that joins the 815 survivors together. Think of S5,E8 "LaFleur" in which, in just a couple of brief scenes, a full loving relationship between Juliet and Sawyer is uncovered; it is remarkably believeable due in large part to Mitchell's and Holloway's performance. Think of the previously-mentioned scene between Jacob and Blackshirt (S5,E16 "The Incident") - it only took three minutes and 45 seconds for the Lost production team to introduce a brand new context with these characters, turning the Lost story on its head.

Seventeen episodes? That's an ample amount of time for storytelling with this production team.

In addition, while not all the remaining loose ends will be answered, it seems likely that a few key items referenced previously will be part of season 6:

• "There is a war coming". Widmore's prognostication will certainly come to fruition in the story, perhaps as the ultimate climax for the series. It may be that the war is a fight among a small group of people requiring no new character introductions, but I think that when Widmore says "war", he means something on a much larger scale. He sent a full team of mercenaries (Keamy and company) to the island on a freighter just to capture Ben - one man. Widmore is not a stranger to the military, and if he sent such a large, well-trained and heavily-armed team for a one-man extraction mission, it is fairly safe to assume that "war" to him means something much bigger. A big war means new characters.
• The Temple. We've seen its front door, we've seen underneath it. We know several of the Others are currently there. When the Temple is revealed, are we ! expecting that we'll only see Others we've seen before? I am guessing there are new characters we'll meet at the Temple that will, like Jacob and Blackshirt, expand the context of the series.
• The Black Rock. It may be that Richard's ship-in-a-bottle and the flashback of Jacob awaiting the Black Rock's arrival are the last images we'll see of the ship. On the other hand, the writers may choose to tell that story over several episodes, or in as few as one. If the story is told, and there are enough known family connections to the crew of the ship to make its telling likely, it will require new characters and introduce us to some we've only heard about thus far.

Considering the economical sense of the Lost production team, and some important mysteries that are likely to be revealed in season 6, it is easy to believe that new characters will be introduced, further expanding the context of the Lost series.
