OK, so in the second episode of this season, The Lie, Sawyer is running barefoot in the jungle with Juliet (after Frogurt becomes target practice).
While running barefoot he steps on something and is forced to pull it out to continue running away. From the hideous and infected look of his foot, I'm guessing that they will have to remove one of his toes ("Send that piggy to the market"- Sawyer talking about ways to coerce Ben into talking)
Now, this whole idea is revolved around the fact that this scene was in the episode. The scene would appear to have nothing substantial or ground-breaking in it but the fact that the director and editors left it in there for slightly over 10 seconds means that there was a reason for it.
The statue, I'm guessing, is a statue built to immortalize/pay tribute to Sawyer. He must do something so important, like save the island for instance, (while sacrificing himself) that the inhabitants of the island build this glorious tribute to him.
Short Version:
Sawyer gets shrapnel in foot.
Sawyer removes shrapnel.
Sawyer loses toe due to infection from the shrapnel.
Sawyer sacrifices himself (for the island).
Sawyer saves the island.
Sawyer is paid tribute to by the island inhabitants through a statue of his foot (because it was unique to anybody on that island and 4 toed)
Thanks for reading I hope you enjoyed this theory. Theory by Omar Rana

I'm sure you all remember the famous scene in the season three finale when it's finnaly revealed that the whole episode has been a flash-forward. The scene is later continued in the season four finale with Kate screaming at Jack about his ridicuolous idea to return.
I think that this was the perfect time to show that at least two of the losties left the island and at least one without a doubt has to go back.
What if Desmond did something he wasn't supposed to do...
something really, really terrible. Something like changing the future.
Daniel states that Des really is special and that the rules don't apply to him, he's the wild card.
Desmond knew Charlie was going to die, and he must of saved his fellow brit more than 10 times.
Characters don't die on LOST just becuase the writers wanted to make a more dramatic season finale.
Charlie was supposed to die becuase if he wouldn't, it would ultimately lead to something bad. Desmond changed the future by saving Charlie and Charlie turned off the Looking Glass station, which lead to the rescue of the O6.
Maybe Desmond changed the future just a little bit by saving Charlie but made things a lot worse by causing a 'time peridox'. The O6 weren't supposed to leave, becuase it didn't happen in the furute but, Desmond changed that.
I think the left behinders need the O6 to save them, and the island becuase they all have a greater destiny to possibly stop a very cataclysmic event like the end of all humanity (Valenzetti Equation?... etcetera.)
If the O6 don't go back...

So we now know several things for sure about Dr. Chang's baby.
1. Its a boy
2. He is of Asian decent
In my opinion there are 3 possible outcomes of who the baby is.
1. Its just a baby and has no significance to the story line. But we as "Lost fans", we have to think everything means something. So...
2. It is Miles as a baby. This seems to be the popular theory but I am not so sure. First just because the baby is Asian does not mean it has to be Miles. But Miles does have "I see dead people" qualities and wanted to stay at the Island instead of leaving to go back to the freighter and his age would be about right from baby in "Because you left" to current. It is also classic Lost to show us a baby, then have Charlotte mention she wants to find where she is born, and have the audience think it is Charlotte but actually being Miles. Or.....
3. Lost is an amazing show and I think they can do much better and create a mind blowing concept. Opton 3, Mr. Paik is actually the baby. Yes I said it, Mr. Paik, Suns father is Pierre Chang's baby. Here are my reasons. The baby and Mr. Paik are both Asian. Since time travel is involved anything is possible. We have a pretty sure that Daniel is filming Pierre, Comicon video. We hear the baby crying. Lets say Daniel is holding the baby at some point trying to make him stop crying and the light comes and he time travels to the past. We also know that anything a time traveler has with them will time travel with them (not so sure about a human but it is Lost). We also know that Widmore and Paik are friends or Buisness associates. So Daniel now travels back in time to some point with Baby Paik, but then Baby Paik is no longer with Daniel or any other time traveler so he stays at that point on the Island. The time baby Paik travels back could be when Widmore is even youn! ger than we saw in "Jughead" and Paik and Widmore grow up with each other on Island, hence how they became friends/business assocaites.
I know there could be some holes in option 3 but anything is possible now in our beloved show.
I am leaning more towards No. 1, I think No. 2 is too obvious and No. 3 is the coolest but I dont think Mr. Paik has a big enough role established for them to put so much into the story line now.
Please feel free to comment, good and bad are welcome. Theory by osutaco

Horace built the Cabin Jacob lives in? by Locke4God

Based on the conversation Locke has with Richard in 1954, Richard is aware of Jacob back then. I find it odd though that we have seen Jacob constantly connected to the Cabin, which we've seen Horace building somewhere in the mid 80's. That's 30 years after we've known Jacob to exist. Through conversations with Ben we've come to believe that Jacob is the superior to Hostiles and people like Richard, but if he was around long before the Cabin was built, then what connection could he really have to it. Also, Jacob, as the supposed leader of the Hostiles would probably have little interest in Horace, a member of Dharma which the hostiles oppose. So what does Horace have to do with Jacob? Most of the mysteries in lost are slowly coming into few or there are a few possible explanations that we can already foresee. But Jacob's relation to the Cabin and consequently to Horace seems to have absolutely no plausible ! explanation. The only possible outcome would be that we do know it was Horace who helped a young Ben and his father come to the Island. So perhaps it was Horace who was the real inside man helping Jacob and the hostiles elimate Dharma and his orders were to bring Ben to the island. Tragedy has befallen others who help Jacob and it wouldn't be suprising that Horace would be sacraficed much in the way Locke will be. We also have seen that Horace was building the cabin for himself as a way to get away from the Dharma Initiative on a temporary basis, which lends evidence that he didn't fully support them. If the cabin is Horaces though, and we believe that the cabin is also Jacob's, but we know that Jacob existed as far back as 1954, then I'm not sure how Jacob couldn't be a time displaced Horace. Why else would Jacob be in the cabin that Horace built? If Richard got to Horace and convinced him that Dharma was wrong, then Horace could have gone on to condemn Dharma, dyin! g, and becoming Jacob and claiming the cabin as his home. Theory by Locke4God

It seems to me that Charles Widmore has been training and motivating Desmond for many years.
Instead of marrying Ruth, Desmond “woke up” on a sidewalk, not knowing how he got there and decided to “follow” Brother Campbell - who is connected to Ms Hawking and to Charles Widmore. Ruth subsequently called Desmond a Coward, after which Daddy Widmore sent his daughter to the Abbey on an errand that just happened to result in the two of them meeting
Two years later, when Desmond first met Charles Widmore, the Great Man, after asking Des whether he had any military training, informed him that he wasn’t worthy of a so much as a gulp of MacCutcheon’s, let alone the hand of his daughter.
When Widmore’s colleague, Ms Hawking convinced Desmond that his “path” was to break up with Penny, she called him a Coward just before she walked away.
Des then joined the Army - where one can “become a man you can be proud of” - and during his Basic Training, CW gives him Penny’s (correct) address so that he can visit her there and regain her love before he is dishonourably discharged - for cowardice (or insubordination) - from the Army .
Upon his discharge from Military Prison, CW again accuses Des of cowardice and offers to bribe him to stay away from Penny and then arranges for Libby to “give” Des the Elizabeth.
Despite the fact that her Daddy intercepted the letters that Des had sent her over the years, Penny still loved Desmond enough to track him down at the stadium where Des tells Penny that he intends to win Widmore’s Sailboat Race to regain his honour.
IMO, it was CW, Ms Hawking and Libby - a Time Cop agent - who “nudged” Des onto The Elizabeth and thence onto the Island. The Implosion enabled Des’ mind to revisit his 1995 relationship with Penny and to “realise” (too late) that he could have chosen to stay with her ... and this Revelation sustained Desmond’s love - guided and supported by Daddy Widmore - enough for him to establish his Constant and thus enable Charlie to reach her briefly before his noble death. Note that CW, piggy-backing on Penny’s Listening Post info, set up the Kahana crew (including the MA-selected Science Team) and also including Naomi’s “cover story” Desmond photo.
In “Jughead”, we see Desmond “break in” to the Widmore-sponsored Faraday lab where he conveniently “finds” the Daniel/Theresa photo and is then conveniently educated by the extremely-well-informed “caretaker” - and marches off to visit Theresa - which leads Desmond (by the nose) right back to Widmore - who once again suggests that Desmond should resume hiding after delivering his message to Faraday’s LA-located Mum.
It seems to me that Widmore’s careful emotional button-pushing is intended to propel Desmond (and therefore Penny and Young Charlie) into situations requiring Desmond’s Courage - which he will be that much more eager to demonstrate because his Father-in-law led him to do so. Theory by Roland

I’ve been feeling for a while Charles Widmore and Christian Shephard are connected somehow. I’ve actually been thinking for awhile that the two of them are actually brothers and maybe children of this “Jacob” person or Hanzo. After watching “Jughead”, I feel like this is starting to come together and make more sense. If you compare it to the Biblical story of Jacob and his brother Esau, it starts to seem possible. You may remember I got the Jack/Claire sibling theory right in December of 2004 on Lost-Forum, and I believe that Daniel and Penny are siblings too, so now here’s my theory on how the Widmores and Shephards are part of the same family.
“The Lord said to Rebekah: ‘Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.’” – Genesis 25:23
This story starts with two brothers, much like the Jacob/Esau story in Genesis where the oldest was supposed to get Isaac’s birthright, or the promised land of Israel. Jacob, who was the younger, was prophesied to have the inheritance. However, Isaac believed his oldest Esau would get it. One day, Jacob, with the help of his mother Rebekah, tricked Isaac with his blindness into thinking he was Esau and Jacob got the birthright. Now let’s go into the LOST version of this story.
“Jacob” or Hanso, whoever you want to be the father, had two sons which would later turn into Charles Widmore and Christian Shephard. Charles was the oldest and was being prepped to take over for his father. Christian, the younger of the two, rebelled even though the Island does in fact belong to his family line. The two siblings fought constantly, Charles being boastful and Christian jealous. Christian ended up leaving the Island and went to LA, dishonoring his father and wanting to start a life of his own. Going back to the Bible prophecy, it fits with the brothers’ families being separated.
At this time, I think around when Locke showed up in 1954, the father then had to prep Charles for his leadership role. Thus why Charles says the Island is “his”. Locke comes and starts to disrupt it when he says “Jacob” chose him and sent him. Complicating things further, Charles starts a relationship with Ellie, who turns out to be Ms. Hawking, and she gets pregnant with twins. They turn out to be Daniel and Penny. At this time something happens to make Charles get banished and his father orders him to be banished from the Island. Either by the wheel or something else, Charles leaves and time jumps to the mid-later 1960s. But he and Ellie have to separate the twins for their safety. Ellie gets Daniel to the US, and Charles takes Penny to the UK.
Meanwhile, Christian finds out he can do pretty well as a doctor and takes that profession now in 1960s LA. He meets and falls in love with Margo, and they get married and have Jack. But Christian is haunted by his past and turns to drinking. He turns into a Don Draper (Mad Men) like character and starts to have numerous affairs; still having to hide his past from his wife, son, and co-workers. In the early 80s, he meets an Australian women named Carole and she becomes pregnant with Claire. Christian can’t have his past found out and to keep his daughter safe, he ends up helping Claire and Carole in Australia, but can’t be a part of his daughter’s life. He tries to be for a few years, but tells Carole to make Claire think he died and tries to go back to his life in LA.
Charles never gives up looking for the Island or his younger brother, who Widmore now believes will try to take the Island away from him again. By this time he knows about Ben Linus and his role as leader. He vows to get back to the Island by any means necessary, including paying his unknowing son Daniel to find the Island, and kill his brother if he has too.
Which all leads up to Christian going back to Australia to find Claire. Someone is now after his family and he’s trying to keep her safe. However, Charles finds Christian and kills him, going to another Bible story about Cane and Abel. Jack finds his father’s body, and he gets on the plane, not knowing his pregnant sister Claire is on board.
Which leads us to the Island. Christian is revived by the Island and reunites with his father. “Jacob” then uses his son to help train the next in line for the Island, Jack. However, Jack still wants to get off the Island, not knowing it’s his destiny to have it. This disappoints “Jacob”, seeing his grandson do anything to get off. They realize that Ben is going to turn the wheel and Aaron needs to get off the Island. Aaron is now next in line to inherit the Island. They devise a plan to get Claire on their side, keeping her safe from the time traveling, which leads to Kate and Jack raising Aaron in LA.
Which leads us to now. Ellie has switched sides and is helping Ben find his way back to the Island and to get the Oceanic 6 back. Jack and Aaron have to go back to their Island as a part of their destiny. But now that Desmond and Penny have a child, the rivalry starts back up and when Widmore finds out about his grandson Charlie, he’s going to try to use his grandson to get control of the Island again.
So it all comes down to who then inherits the Island. Is it Aaron or Charlie? This is what I think will lead us to Season 6. The epic show down between the 2 brothers and their families. Theory by Buffyfan145

Continuing on a theory I just wrote, but may or may not have been posted, we now know a lot about Richard. He wasn't time traveling when he met Locke as a young boy, but he is actually ageless. He's "old" as juliet says and I'd say way older than he looks in '54, but that is a big mystery.
I saw a couple of theories stating that Jughead is the source of the Island's energy. I'm not sure that makes any sense. Firstly I wasn't sold that Jughead was what was behind the concrete wall in the Swan but the more I think about it, the more I realize I can't find anything that would cause that outcome not to make sense. It does make sense. So if Jughead is there, and the power source is in the Orchid, then Jughead couldn't be the source of the power.
Also not all of the mysteries are being solved with time as the explanation. Richard is old, but why? There must be a larger explanation about what causes him to be this way, and why if he is so old and is so connected to the ultimate secrets of the island does he make himself the subordinate of the likes of Ben, etc.
Richard did say they choose their leaders from a young age. Not that Locke has gone back in time it is acceptable to think that at some point Richard will hear the name of Ben, and possibly go and recruit him in much the same way as he sought Locke out as a baby and young man.
One interesting thing about the bomb though that I did see. Radiation is known to cause complications with pregnancy, "sickness", and is used to cure cancer. Sound familiar? Theory by Locke4God

Ah yes, now it all makes sense. We've known for a long time that time travel is possible using the island. We know there was an incredible source of energy on the island making that possible. Last night, we finally found out what that source of energy is. It, of course, is JUG HEAD, the thermonuclear device placed on the island by the US Military for the purposes of testing. During that post-WWII era, there was a great deal of testing in the Pacific. Bikini Atoll is a famous test site out there.
Now you may wonder how this huge source of energy allows time travel. The location of the island lies in a peculiar area of the earth's gravitation field (remember the circa '80s lab, where the woman we believe is Faraday's mother was at a work station, with the instrumentation and so forth). Just like two ocean waves which get "into phase" can combine into a wave much larger than the sum of the two, the buried JUG HEAD's energy field, in phase with the earth's gravitational field, combine into an energy field much stronger than the sum of these two.
According Einstein's general theory of relativity, gravitation fields can not only attract mass, they can, commensurate with their intensity, bend light - we all know that this is what a black hole in space does. The other point relating to Einstein's theory is this: as a body approaches the speed of light, its mass increases towards infinity and time shrinks toward zero, RELATIVE to another body that is not so speedy. What we're still trying to understand is how the islands energy source affects different individuals. What is apparent though, is that this time travel capability seems to be different depending on how one comes to be on the island. Our heros timeline is a constant, with the island's time frame moving ahead or behind them. Richard, on the other hand, moves with the island. Daniel's group stays with our heros. I will be happy to go deeper into the general theory of relativity for any interested readers.?
Based on the above, here are two blockbuster theories that I have arrived at:
1. The Oceanic 6 must return to the island because they departed the island in a different mode than that in which they arrived, thus cause a "tear" in what is otherwise a wrinkle in the fabric of the space/time continuum.
2. That flash we're seeing - is actually some manner of detonation of JUG HEAD. In that instant in which the detonation occurs, there is a release of enough energy to move the island, and certain of those on it, through time. Actually, they're not moving through time so much as their passage of time, RELATIVE to our normal world, is altered. When Ben moved the Donkey wheel, he released the energy allowing the island move in time, but it is now erratically skipping through time.?

Others bury the bomb. Dharma discovers not the "unique electromagnetic fluctuations" Marvin Candle describes in the Swan Orientation film, but rather enormous amounts of leaking radiation. They figure out that it's a bomb, and it's going to detonate or cause some other catastrophe.
This is after the Orchid is built, so Dharma has some limited ability to manipulate time. The Swan is built to hold the bomb in stasis in the moments before it explodes. The timer wasn't discharging energy...it was actually resetting time for the stasis field.
A huge electromagnet, powered by geothermal energy, is required to power the time stasis machine. Marvin Candle (notorious orientation film liar) mentions unique electromagnetic fluctuations as a way to explain the magnetism to station personnel without freaking them out.
When the button isn't pushed, the whole stasis machine starts to overload. Turning the failsafe key was the ultimate solution -- a final burst of energy from the time stasis device channels the energy of the nuclear blast...somewhen else. Station implodes.
This also explains why turning the failsafe had that odd effect on Desmond's mind. Blowing up an electromagnet doesn't usually send one skipping through time...but a stasis generator? Maybe. Theory by Cutter XXIII

After watching Jughead twice and reading some theories, I now believe that John Locke is the key to Lost. What we've learned in season 5 is that there are rules to time travel and affecting the future. However, John Locke does not know this, thus breaking the rules by contacting Richard Alpert in the past. Not only in the past, but as we see in Jughead, Locke visits Alpert in 1954, 2 years before John is born. This very interaction betwee Locke and Alpert explains everything. This is why Alpert visits Locke as a child, and tries to get him to come to the island. This is also why the others know what is going to happen. This is why they get the lists and so on. From this very meeting, Locke changed the future. Yes Ethan shot him and did not know who he was, but that was before Locke was sent back to '54 and met Richard. After this meeting, Richard and the others now know what is supposed to happen. That is why Loc! ke and Ben and other people have referenced the qoute "This wasn't supposed to happen". This is why Ben was always steps ahead of everyone else in every shape and form. The fact that everyone proclaims Locke to be special is because he made contact with people in a time before he was born, thus telling Richard what will happen. Once Richard learns that Locke is born, he knows there is something with time travel. This is what I believe causes the separation between Richard and Widmore. When Widmore learns that Locke was time traveling on the island, he has the idea to want to research the island and it's properties, something Richard was against. A powerstruggle ensued and then you have the battle of Dharma(widmore) and the hostiles(richard). Back to Locke being the key though, by contacting Richard in the Past, Richard knows everything Locke is supposed to do. Remember, Richard is not affected by the island skipping in time, so where he is in 2008, ke knows Locke is dead, ! that's why when Richard heals him in 2005 after the 06 left, h! e tells him he's gonna have to die to save the island cause he knows what will happen because of Locke. You have to keep in mind that the writers are showing us where the 06 is in 2008, but are starting off season 5 with what happen to the losties after the 06 left in 2005. With the island losties skipping in time, there seems to be a theme with that. What seems to be happening is when they travel through time, it takes them back somewhere in the past, and then when it skips again, it takes them back to their present in 2005. I think this keeps happening for the next three years as the island skips between present and past time. When it skips into past time, it will skip into a time where it shows a piece of the island's history. First we saw the beginning of Dharma, then it skipped back to when the nigerian plane crashed, then it skipped to a time where Faraday made contact with Desmond, then it skipped back to 1954 where we meet a young Widmore and Richard and Ellie(who will play ! some important role in the show). It switched from 1954 to a time I expect to be the island present for the losties. I think what the writers are going to do is when the island skips back into past time, they will reveal a mystery of the island we wonder about. (Russeau, 4 toed statue, black rock, Henry Gale, the the incidents that happened with Dharma before 815 crashed). I think this happens for the next three years beofre the 06 go back. I think there is a reason the 06 needs to get back in 70 hours. I think the 06 needs to get back in 70 hours cause that's the earliest window they have, if they wait longer, eventually the island is going to skip into a time where the on-island losties may come in contact with their past selves. Remember the bunny experiment. The scientists could not let the bunnies see each other cause one of them was a past self of the other. If this were to happen to humans, then God help us all. Somehow the 06 will go back and will play a part in sto! pping the island skipping through timeTheory by Lostfanatic24

Hermit Crab: Constantly needs new shell to SURVIVE
'Jones' Issue tips it off:
When ever any new inhabetents comes to the Island the OTHERS must infiltrate them, which includes killing some of them, and then joining some of them and thus becoming the group they have infiltrated.
In the 50's the OTHERS become the soldiers
In the 70's The Others (as the soldiers) become Dharma (hence the hostiles)
In 2004 The Others (as Dharma) become the 815-ers
This is WHY cindy and the kids are not traveling with them, they are OTHERS now.
They HAVE to do this so they do not get LOST in time.
Latin Theory:
When the first bible was writen is was in Greek and another launguage....but Jerome was the first to translate it to Latin which became known as the Volgate Bible, the Bible used by Cathlics for the their first 1300 yrs.
Latin is considered ’ a dead language’ and besides, phoenician, is where all modern langauges come from.
I think they use this launguage as a constant, because Latin NEVER CHANGES, it is DEAD!
If it turns out The DeaD langauge does keep the Others in time with the Island because it can not Change, then...
(sorry for sounding like Jack, a broken record, but)
I may be right that the Island had to of originated/comes from/built in what is considerd to the 815-ers, the future...
Ok...Latin was not always a dead language...I do not know the exact date when it offically died, I think it is @ 8th century, but that makes me think that the Island cannot go past that date, but more over to keep the Others from ever having to worry about such a delema, it would make most sence that The Others come from a time in which the langauge is still onsidered DEAD...which would not be the times of most ancient civilazations, such as Rome or Egypt.....the ONLY catch may be that if in the FUTURE Latin is alive agian, If so, then we at least have a more specific period as to when the Island can exsist.
As For Juliet, before someone tells me, what about her, she is exempt becuse In Stranger in a Strangeland she is branded, ’amoungst them, not one of them’...she is no longer an OTHER....but she may become key into figuring out OTHER things...
We should remember Isabel pointed out that they have strict rules...Juliet would have bveen executed if it wasn’t for Jack.
Desmond is Jacob:
I know we have all been over this a ga-ton of times, but I never really thought or recall reading any ideas that Desmond could be Jacob.
Desmond has been officialy been named special...he does not have to follow the same set of ’rules’ as everybody else...but that does not mean that he doesn’t have any.
For a long time I though Desmond was a mole for Charles Widmore and now maybe even Ben, but the catch is, he never knew he was their mole!
-It’s possible that Libby was hired find and sell Desmond that boat, even though Libby is a nickname for Elizabeth, it might just be a cover...we don’t know WHO made that boat, what company.
Something else that is suspicious is the Monostary...Hawkings is obviously in ka-hoots with the monk and yet the day Desmond was dismissed, Penny shows up and askes him to go with her. -and we know now that Hawkings is capable of figuring out allgerythms to determan probable EVENTS.
As the ’Event Changer’ Desmond may prove to be VERY valueble.
And, it seems that it might come down to that the differant rules imply that Desmond may become ’unstuck’ from time to time and as some of us were already thinking, this may be why Jacob appears, or lacks appearance, to us, because he is ’unstuck’ too?
There may be consequences for being able to Change Events...like forever being LOST.
I have ALWAYS thought Jacob was a parody to Jacob Marley of Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol!!! Jacob the ghost of Island’s present, future and past! -and Desmond’s book, the one he wants to read before he dies, Our Mutual Friend, is also a Charles Dicken’s novel....and Christmas is when Desmond found his constant and talked to Penny!
-Naomi Dorrit is also of Charles Dickens referance, Little Dorrit and she had (a copy?) the picture of them both and was hired by Widmore
-I have heard people say that the whispers relate to Desmond when Hugo is outside the cabin in The Beginning of the End.
In Because You Left, Sawyer says, "...and now the ghost of Christmas future came banging at his door." Outside of the Swan hatch Desmond was in.
Also there is a sequel to A Christmas Carol , writen by a modern auther. The plot explains how Marley escapes from Hell.
All of Dicken’s works are primarily about ’imprisonment’. Theory by DarthLocke

It's just a few lines about John Locke.
--
So let's recap :
The compass is just a paradox-object (thanks to Cantigas). You know : like the chicken and the egg. We probably (time will tell) will never know where this object came from.
RECAP :
1) - Locke (501) is shot in the leg by Ethan. Richard gave him the compass.
2) - Locke (503) gave the compass to Richard and told him that Jacob sent him. That he's the so-called leader. He proposed to Richard to visit him the day he will be born. In 1956.
3) - In 1956 (411) Alpert assisted to the birth of John Locke. Years later (by time travel or just by normal means, like waiting ahah) Alpert visited Locke again (at the age of 6/8). He asked "What object was yours?" and the little Locke chose the knife, not the compass. Richard Alpert wasn't pleased. He thought "He's not the leader at all". But Locke did chose the right object : the knife. I'm sure that it is his knife from the future. How did it end-up here? Probably because in '54 (502/503) John Locke totally killed that dude from the past. So it was the destiny of this man to die because of this. Because of the knife.
So much for the ultimate "self-made man" theory. John Locke created his own myth by believing he's the one. Time-travel helped him that way. This and, of course, the all "I'm not crippled anymore" thing. Yeah, I'm sure Lukhs was right about that.Theory by Hugues Derolez

One interesting idea to keep in mind relates to the white light flashes on the island. The characters on the show are making it seem like an element of time travel exists, but I think it's something different.
Think about the structure of the show. In the early seasons the writers used flashbacks to help character development. In later seasons they use flashforwards to help bridge the gap of what "may" happen after life on the island. The only power that the writers still have over the audience since they have revealed flashbacks and forwards is makinging these seem like time travel.
I think the white light doesn't exactly mean that the characters traveled from present to another point in time. I think the writers are using the white light as a cover to implement flashbacks, and keep the audience guessing.
Example - after the white light goes off, Locke (who is unphased) suddenly appears walking up the side of the mountain and yemi's plane crashes above him (think about how many times locke disappeared on the island by himself and we never saaw where he went). I don't think locke time traveled from the "present" to the past. I think the writes are choosing to randomly show a flashback without making it seem like one. This could mean that certain people have been on the island longer than they may have appeared to be.
just a thought from a writers perspective of how they can use the white light to make everything seem more difficult to figure out than it actually is. Theory by G

According to Faraday "it has already happened and that is why time can not be altered". However, it appears as some things have already been altered i.e. Alex dying and Widmore changing the rules. However, what if some things were so important that if they were to change, it would mean certain doom for the Island and possibly the world.
Before, I get into my theory I'd like to reemphasise "the world" angle. Hawking told Linus that he only had seventy hours to get the six back or it would be disastrous. It could be the end of the world. I believe this end of the world would be caused by a time paradox.
The others and hostiles came from somewhere, but where? Many believe they are from an alien race or that they were on the Black Rock ship. However, my theory goes for a different approach. I believe the others are the offspring and descendents of the Losties. I believe that the Losties, traveling through time, eventually end up stuck in the past. This "past island" would have no inhabitants and they would be free to start their own civilization. This would be the origin of the others.
However something very important is missing, Jack and the O6. Many have already hinted that Jack could be Jacob (Jack is a short form of Jacob after all). Wouldn't it make since that the others great leader of the age would have been someone who was the leader of their ancestors. Without the O6 in place the others would not exist. This is a major problem for the Island. It needs them to be there or the timeline will not be fulfilled, hence the paradox.
Even more important to this end seems to be the Shepard line. Jack must return to the island. He needs to fulfil his destiny, much like Christian has already told him. Also, it appears his nephew is of great importance (maybe the next leader of the others). In fact, in the first episode, Claire says that she hasn't felt the baby kick for a while and feared he had died. What if Aaron had died and it was through the island's mystical power and preservence of the time line that Aaron was brought back to life in the womb.
Granted this theory, i'm sure, has holes in it, but it is a very sound theory. The others have to come from somewhere. Also, what could be a more important reason for the O6 to return than to stop a time paradox. Besides, there is an Adam and Eve in the cave, and many believe its some of the Oceanic Losties. What do you think? Is it possible or am I in a psychiatrist's office imaging all this... Theory by Jack=Jacob

Here is a quick theory, going back to the Evil Twin book and based upon the new developments and connections of Jughead.
What if Charles Widmore gets Ellie pregnant on the island. She is pregnant with boy/girl twins. They end up leaving the island to have the babies. Then they have a falling out and Ellie keeps the boy, Daniel, and changes his last name because she doesn't want anything to do with Widmore any more. Charles Widmore keep the girl, Penny. Then they are both trying, in their own way, to get back to the island. She figures it out, but he doesn't. Or she cooperates with Richard Alpert, who in turn recruits Ben, kills all of the Dharma people (who are also loyal to Charles Widmore) and keeps Charles from coming back to the island. This doesn't all completely add up, because since if Charles Widmore knows where Ellie/Eloise Hawking is (Los Angeles), he must know that she knows how to get back to the island, so why doesn't he just spy on her to figure it out? Or is she such a "private person" that he can't possibly spy on her? Anyway, I should probably post it in theories section, it j! ust all came to me as I was typing here...
Another theory: Ellie and Charles Widmore are twins. One is the evil twin. Which one? This also makes Daniel Faraday and Penny first cousins (if Daniel is Eloise's son). I'm too tired to develop this idea right now, but something to think about. Either theory also explain why Widmore would sponsor Faraday's research. Theory by Julia S.
Before I start id just like to say I’m not a scientist and can only put forward an explanation based on my own understanding, so I welcome any improvements, ideas or revisions to this theory.
I think an important question we should all be asking is how did the pocket of negative energy form?
Well I think that it’s a natural occurrence, if we look at the melted drill bit and Marvin candles comments, it’s clear that the energy cannot be moved in anyway. So it had to have been naturally produced by the island.
Now before I explain how I think it was produced, we first have to understand the Casmir effect. It‘s a real phenomenon and has been measured in the laboratory. The scientific description for this effect is the attractive force between two parallel surfaces in a vacuum. So in other words, if we have two surfaces which are placed extremely close together in a vacuum, then the space that exists between the surfaces will generate a negative energy.
This is where the islands Volcano enters the equation. A volcano is really just a large vent allowing pressurised matter to escape. Deep underneath the volcano there is large tectonic plates, which slip or rub together and the resulting force pushes the matter up through these vents. Now this is where it gets interesting, if we set up our island tectonic plates in a certain way, we can I believe using the Casmir effect and a little imagination, generate negative energy.
For example let’s place our islands tectonic plates conveniently in a vacuum, which is possible as large vacuum chambers do exist underground. Now imagine in this vacuum chamber our tectonic plates were exactly parallel and only an atom apart. Quantum mechanics states that because of the close proximity of the plates to each other, the atomic space between them must produce a negative energy.
Now, the amount of negative energy produced depends on certain factors, such as the size of the plates and also the distance between them. Since our islands tectonic plates must be extremely large and the distance between we’ve set at an atom, then in theory we can create a large amount of negative energy.
In practice however we would have created additional problems such as, how can we harness this energy? Since any negative energy created cannot according to quantum physics have contact with normal matter, then we’ve simply replaced one question with another.lol
There are other problems too. If the donkey wheel is what rotates this negative energy, then it simply isn’t big enough to be connected to these tectonic plates. And even if it was, then Ben certainly wouldn’t have been strong enough to rotate these plates by himself.
Also if this wheel was created back in ancient times, then where did they find the tools and know how to create this wheel? So many questions.
Another possible solution could be that the lava itself has been allowed to flow into two large plate shaped moulds, then when it cools down it forms two large plates. This would make more sense, as you would be able to rotate and move these plates around using a donkey wheel, which would shift the corresponding negative energy around between the plates.
Of course this could all be complete fantasy and I guess we’ll only find out towards the end of the series, if at all, but I’d love your comments on this.

Some of you have probably forgotten all about this, so let’s revisit shall we? Let’s go all the way back to the first season of Lost, episode 14 - Special. Claire is still gone and Charlie is back at the camp after being abducted by Ethan. Charlie reads in Claire’s diary that she had a dream about a black rock.
Here’s exactly what she wrote: “I had that weird dream again, the one with the black rock I can’t get away from. I try to leave it but it won’t let me.”
At that time we thought it was some kind of black rock – literally but we all know by now that it is in fact a ship found on the island.
So, here comes my theory. What if the reason that Claire is in the cabin is because Christian or Jacob wants her to “join” whoever were on that ship (for some other purpose). Or maybe she just has to “do some work” involving the Black Rock. It doesn’t necessary mean that she will join them but maybe inspect it? You know, figure something out about the people? There are a lot of possibilities.
And we don’t really know for sure who the people aboard the ship were, do we? It can’t be Dharma can it? Since Kelvin or Radzinsky mapped the Black Rock on the blast door map as “Known final resting place of Magnus Hanso/Black Rock”. (Magnus Hanso was probably a part of the crew)
Still, who exactly the people were stays a mystery. I surely hope that Darlton didn’t just make us, the viewers, know about Claire having a dream about a black rock if they’re going to leave it just like that. I don’t think (more like hope not) that it’s merely a coincidence. It was specifically Claire and no one else who dreamt about it.
Tell me what you think. Is it possible?

So after "Jughead"... here's what I'm thinking:
Elle (the woman with the gun) is Faradays Mother, aka, Ms. Hawking. It would put her as the proper age, akin with Widmore.
Now, Widmore's words to Ben in Season 4:
"I know who you are boy... what you are. I know everything you have you took from me"
Richard recruited Ben from an early age and planned the purge with him. Widmore was on the island up until the point of the purge. Ben had Widmore, errrr, tricked widmore, into turning the frozen donkey wheel, thus moving the island and creating a time paradox for Widmore. This would explain why Ben could not kill Widmore in the penthouse.
Now I also think that this is the 5th, 6th, or more, time that the island has been thru this time loop. There are certain people who guide it so that the time line is seen thru to the end, like hwking, richard and ben, so that there are no catastrophic time paradoxes. That is why they know so much (popular idea on this message board and others I know , so credit where credit is due.)
There are certain rules... you can't change what has happened in previous timelines. In previous timelines Alex never died. Widmore changed the rules by killing her. All bets are now off since the O6 left the island.
Charlie was the musician that programed the code in the looking glass in a previous timeline... In previous timelines Charlie died like Desmond remembered. Since Desmond prevented his death, and charlie was able to enter the code, thus getting the O6 off the island, the game was changed.
Now they have to get back in 70 hours of a time paradox will create such a rip in time that all of existence will stop... ????
Rambling thoughts. Apologies for that. Your thoughts?

Things were clearly set in motion when Ben turned the wheel. This is how I figure things played out...more or less.
So, Locke flashes back to the day the drug plane crashes and is then shot by Ethan. Seems to me this is the moment that set everything in motion. Locke tells past Ethan, “My name is John Locke and Ben appointed me as your leader.” Ethan is like, “pssh, whatever man…I’m gonna shoot you in the face.” But then Locke pulls a vanishing act(literally) right in front of Ethan. So Ethan thinks, hey, maybe there is a little something to this guy and he’s not just a nut job walking through the jungle. Ethan heads back to New Otherton and tells Ben, “Hey man, this guy named John Locke just told me you appointed him as our leader.” And Ben’s like, “Not bloody likely.” Then Ethan tells Ben that this guy Locke disappeared into thin air right in front of his eyes and blows Bens mind. Word spreads that some guy named John Locke who can disappear(or possibly time travel…we can assume that the others know about all that shit) says Ben appointed him as thei! r leader. Ben is not pleased.
Flight 815 crashes a few years later. As Mikhail is putting together dossiers on all the passengers he comes across a man by the name of John Locke and then his eye literally blows out of his skull in disbelief(I`m just guessing here, of course). So after he picks up his eye he calls Ben up and is like, `Hey, John Locke is on that plane…comrade(or something equally Russian sounding), to which Ben replies by gasping comically and tugging at his collar.
Now Ben is officially on a mission to find out who this guy is, prove who he isn`t, and possibly embarrass him in front of everybody(all of which we saw him do). He can`t have his minions thinking their new leader just fell from the sky as a cripple then got up and started running around all magical and leader-like.
Then, much to Bens surprise, he finds himself telling Locke exactly what he never thought he would…that he is the new leader of the others. Then he is off to turn the frozen donkey wheel and never return(sort of). Fate just bitch slapped him right upside the head.
As for Richard Alpert, we now know after episode three that he has known about Locke even longer than Ben and has been following him throughout Lockes life. Richard has been waiting for Locke all this time to take Bens place since he was obvioulsy not a fan of how Ben was running the show. If an ageless person knows anything, it's how to be patient.

So, after what I believe to be a great episode, 5.03 with the revelation that Charles Widmore was a "hostile", it got me thinking about who else could've been on the island before, then it hit me.
First we must look into Daniels mother. I think it is safe to say that Eloise Hawking, or Ms Hawking is Daniels mother. From 5.02, we know Ms Hawking is in LA assisting Ben, and from 5.03, thanks to Charles Widmore, we also know that Faradays mother is also in LA. Connection? Possibly.
In Episode 4.05, The Constant, we meet Faraday and meet his lab rat, Eloise. The very fact that he named his lab rat this, possibly a nod to his mother, is more than enough proof in my opinion.
Now, Ms Hawking is that very important person who has shown up in desmonds flashbacks, explaining to him concepts of time travel, and not being able to change events or save peoples lives. She is also the same person who is helping Ben locate the island, so he and the Oceanic 6 can get back.
Now, for a woman to know how to find the island and also know about its properties, then it is very likely that she would have to have been on the island at some point in her life.

In 5.04, we meet Ellie, another "hostile". She comments on the fact that Daniel keeps staring at her, and he comments that she looks familiar. Hmm, she does sort of look like a very younger version of someone, don't you think;

I believe that Ms Hawking is Ellie from the island and the handbook he has all the information about the island and its properties is a possession that his mother passed down to him from her time on the island.
OMFG, what if Widmore is Faradays father.....that is for another theory though =]

At the end of season 4, the island vanished... and everybody immediately jumped to the conclusion that it was because the island went back in time, or moved in space, etc etc..
I'm going to say that that's not actually true at all.
Some of the occupants of the island moved in time.
That leaves us with one mystery: why did it disappear as far as the O-6 were concerned...?
Easy... because it ceased to exist. It passed on. The island is no more. It has ceased to be! 'It's expired and gone to meet it's maker! It's a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! It's metabolic processes are now history! It's off the twig! It's kicked the bucket. It's shuffled off it's mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!! THIS IS AN EX-ISLAND!!
(please excuse me if the last paragraph is lost on you...)
Now... remember the scene in Back to the Future where Marty goes back in time and changes things? So... he starts to not exist in the future? Maybe that's what happened... maybe the "bad things" which Locke referred to were things which would destroy the island completely...?
The reason the O-6 need to go back is to, literally, SAVE THE ISLAND.
The problem with this theory? If going back in time the Losties managed to destroy the island somehow, the island wouldn't have existed when Oceanic 815 was flying by... and so on... and if the plane didn't crash, they wouldn't have been there to go back in time and destroy it... and so on.
But what if all of this, somehow, breaks the space-time rules? According to the highest known authority on time travel, Doctor Who, this would cause a cataclysmic event that would spell the end of the universe. Perhaps that's what Ms Hawkings' 70 hours refers to? The O-6 all have to go back so that they can, collectively, change something. They have to get back to the island, in another time, within 70 hours because, if they don't, the ENTIRE UNIVERSE will cease to exist - pretty much stopping any attempts to save the island :-)
When they go back to save the universe, by the way, they'll also save Locke... meaning that he won't be dead off-island after all.
Confused ramblings of a mad man? Absolutely.

I believe Charles Widmore was ejected from the island during the Dharma period for some unknown transgression and is trying to change the time-line of the Island in order to return and take over leadership there. When Ben's group states that they will cease to exist if the proper timeline gets altered, they are referring to themselves, not everyone on the planet.
During the time leaps by the losties, young Widmore found out that Desmond is "special" and can change the timeline of the events on the Island. He was present as a young man when the H bomb was buried and the hatch was built around it. Through a series of manipulations, (getting Libby to give Des a boat out of nowhere etc.) he arranged for Desmond to land on the Island and become the sole caretaker of the hatch.
Widmore owns Oceanic and can order his employees to do as he wants as demonstrated when he waylaid Sun at the airport. He was able to divert Oceanic 815 to fly over the Island to coincide with the time when he knew Desmond would fail to input the numbers and cause the event that crashed the plane. Perhaps he knew Lapidus would not follow these orders and arranged for the substitute pilot.

I have been bouncing all over the place with my thoughts on lost until i came across a website about some ancient libraries of alexandria which supposedly contained all the knowledge of the universe and existence
this website has many links that tie into the island. One correlation I make is that what is below the Orchid is a superconductor http://www.halexandria.org/dward156.htm no surprise there is a person name Michael Faraday who discovered phenomenon related to superconductivity in 1846. I also get the feeling that the properties that exist on this island may be in some relation to the fifth element due to the fact that the logo for Dharma represents the fifth element and time delay is related to the fifth element http://www.halexandria.org/dward124.htm. Also there are references to ancient mathematics which have theories on how the universe is connected, and also discusses connective physics which would explain how people who are dead are still communicating with the living. I know im not really providing my theory, i think i have found the pieces that in theory are real and could very well be the idea behind LOST. Im sure someone a little smarter than me could piece some of th! is together. With the addition of Faraday and physics i have no doubt that this is the direction they are going. Another topic which relates is this ORME,http://www.halexandria.org/dward466.htm it is also known as the philosophers stone could be the key to why Richard has not aged and another reason people want to find the island so badly. Also, the ancient temple and biblical realms may relate to the ark of the covenant being located on this island, "Hudson goes on to say that the Ark of the Covenant “was kept in Egypt out on the island of Elephantine, where they built an exact duplicate of the Temple of Solomon.” Graham Hancock in his book, The Sign and the Seal, notes that excavators have found, “on the island of Elephantine, the exact dimensions of the Temple of Solomon, where the foundation was and where the Ark of the Covenant was kept.” Anyway supposedly the ark contained ORME properties which explains it floating and what not, like i said im not smart enou! gh to put this all together but i find it strange that there a! re so ma ny ways that these topics relate to the show and could in theory explain some of what is happening. Anyway i could just be way into lost and trying to make something out of nothing.

this website has many links that tie into the island. Here's my thoughts on why Ben and Richard let the Oceanic 6 off the island and why they are suddenly so desperate for them to return.
Ben has conned Richard the entire time up until turning the wheel. He knew the future because it had already been laid out and he had been told it by Jacob. He knew he could be safe.
Richard thought letting people off the island was okay because he never dreamed that the wheel would ever be turned.
If it was turned, the island would need everybody that had been on it in recent 'memory' to return, trying to get it's Constant back. All these people who had left would also need to be each other's Constants.
Ben let the O6, Desmond and Lapidus off and actually hoped the rest of the 815/freighter folk would be off before he turned the wheel, too. He then purposefully turned the wheel, sending the island into disarray.
Jacob told Locke to move the island, yes, but that was before anyone left. Ben knew the plan would change should anyone leave, but he did it anyway. In spite of Widmore, in spite of Richard, in spite of Juliet in spite of everyone who hated his leadership of the island.
He then went and hired Sayid to pick off his enemies and gloated in Wdmore's face. He was fine with how things turned out.
But then he was 'arrested' by Hawking and the rest of the 'Time Police'-type people (I'm guessing including Jill). He had leadership of the island before and now thought because of that, he was above such petty punishments as being charged with being the man to bring the group back to the island.
He had never planned for the chaos he had caused to actually be pinned back to him and being given the responsibility to put things right again. He had hoped to be out of there with his money, a soldier and enough free time to rub Widmore's face in it. He used to be the leader but he's encountered far more powerful beings than he ever was, and they want him to put things right.

So, Ethan shoots Locke in the leg - and he's about to kill poor ol' John when the sky flashes. Why? Because Locke CAN'T die. They were in the past, and Locke exists in the future. Therefore, he's not allowed to die. (Which is why it made no sense that Richard said he was bleeding to death, but whatever.) If they're in the future, I suppose it's all fair game - except, that might make it possible for there to be two Sawyers if he hasn't left the island in real time yet.
Did you notice something else, though? Ethan didn't react to the light. John sure did - everyone did - except a few. I.E. the people who weren't traveling in time. As Desmond's awakening suggests, the "tweaked" past exists as a new memory. Ethan's dead - so he would have had a new memory, input in "real time" only, if he were to be alive.
This explains why Dan didn't recognize Desmond the first time they met on the island. He didn't yet have that new memory of the past. But then he DOES remember him when he bangs on the Hatch door.
One other thing to note - Desmond noticed the light. In this case, they didn't show Dan reacting, but I think it was more because he already knew what was happening and was desperate to give information to Des. This also backs up that Des is special and is flipping around through time.
So I'll be watching tonight if we see any flashes - who reacts, and who doesn't? But that's my theory. Any time Locke is in the past and about to die, we'll see another flash and the island will move again. And whatever is different, is only different in the new memories of characters in real time, whenever they are!

If someone whose consciousness is toggling between two Time Periods lacks a Constant, that person will suffer a nosebleed that will lead to a fatal aneurism.
A “dead” character in a Smokey Lucid Dream - in a Time Loop of his own (chopping down the same tree over and over) - will also develop a nosebleed, though how fatal can it be for a Dead Guy in a Dream?
The Orchid worker, drilling too close to the FDW “Exotic matter” chamber developed a nosebleed, headache and fell unconscious.
Time Disturbances like those in the vicinity of the Kahana (where Doc Ray’s left cheek scar “unhealed” right before our eyes) - seem to trigger suicidal “Cabin Fever”-type psychoses - Brandon and Regina come to mind.
Before returning to the Island and establishing his Constant, Daniel suffered mentally, not knowing why - presumably because he had a suppressed Future Memory that he hadn’t accessed yet.
So - Charlotte’s nosebleed indicates (to me) not that her consciousness is toggling through Time like Minkowski and Desmond, but that she has a “suppressed memory” of Time Travel - possibly she’s been on the Island before but doesn’t (yet) remember it. I’m hoping that someone (maybe Miles) can help her access those suppressed memories and save her life.

In previous seasons, the Others were taking survivors who were 'special' and on the list that Jacob gave them. It seems like whoever was taken has now joined the Others (Cindy and the kids).
With the new time-travelling aspect, perhaps the people who were taken, the special ones from the list, perhaps they were taken because they do not feel the effects of the Island moving in time like Sawyer and Locke. Perhaps when the Island moves, they move too, just like the rest of the Others. For this reason, the Others could accept them into their group.
As Faraday said, there are rules about time travel. When Sawyer, Locke etc move in time, they might possibly break one of these rules. They are dangerous. If Cindy and the other people from the list do not move in time like the rest of the others, maybe the Others took them because they would be safe with them and would not cause any problems if the Island were to move in time.
Maybe Jacob knows who would be affected and who wouldnt be, so made the lists. I don't know how he would, but then again, who knows anything about Jacob?

pls forget spelling and grammer, english is not my first language.
my theory is based on the fact that the producers kept saying that rule of phisics are obeyd.
the flash we see at the end of season 4th is being visable by everyone on the island. we were told that that flash occured because of some special reason, i.e bens turning the wheel.
next time we see the flash we see it from 2 perspectives. lock at the aircraft and daniel with the crew at the hatch. i believe that the producers tell us that only this specific people (this includes the
rest of oceanic 815 at the beach) are affected by the flash. i repeat again, what we see at the aircraft and at the hatch is the same flash, seen by different people.
the next time we see the flash is when daniel speaks with desmond and richard takes the bullet out of locks leg. once again i repleat this is the same moment. we see again that flash is not seen by
richard as previously was not seen by ethan. but we also see that DESOND DOES SEE THE FLASH.
what does it mean ? i will explain in a minute.
so after that flash we see Daniels dissapearing for some time (2 hours as Sawyer says). but we can assume that now we are in the late 80s in the dharma time.
back to the beginning of the episode we see Daniel down in the darma station. ok, here it is.
what about this. after daniels spoke to desmond and flashed appeared, daniels is at the swan station back in the 80s. what could he see ? a construction work ? what is he imediately change the clothes and go
on the dharma bus and he goes to the arrow station, see what he has seen and hes back on the beach ? his short missing is explained.
the rest of the episode is linear, lock meets the juliet and sawyer and we are aware that they are in the same time.
so far its easy and simple. what about desmond ? he did see the flash as daniel did. it can be explained this way. until that very moment desmond was not aware of this memory. he wokes up the other day and he rememberes, just because it has happened now.
why the others did not see the lighting ? well, what they seen was for example for ethan it was a men lying on the
ground, talking out of his mind and dissapearing.
but it had happened in the past but this past
was in the future. do you get it ?
as faraday said you cannot change the future, so if you go in the past and you live it, but whatever you were doing is not affecting the future, because what you were doing in the past is only happening from your perspective and in fact is doing in your time, ie future.

Ben,
Locke,
Michael,
The Island,
Tom
Okay there is a lot of brain hurty time travel stuff here, so try to bear with me. We have already seen two characters who supposedly cannot kill themselves while off of the island, Michael and Tom. Both of these characters died while on the island in subsequent episodes. Now we get to the tricky part: why these characters cannot die. I think that these characters cannot die while off the island because, when they eventually die on the island, the island has jumped and is at a spot PRIOR in time to when they are off the island. Let me give an example. Michael can't kill himself in 2005 because he goes back to the island in 2006, the island jumps to, say, 2004, and he dies on the island. Michael can't kill himself in 2005, because he cannot change the past, as Faraday has pointed out, and he technically has already died in the past! I think it is possible that the island began jumping in time when the hatch blew.! We just didn't notice because the survivors were jumping with the island. Michael and Tom re-entered the island during one of its jumps into 2006, and died during a later jump to some point prior to 2005 when they try to kill themselves. When Ben moved the island, the survivors were somehow re-introduced into normal space time, and they now notice the island jumping around them. I think the fact that Locke was able to die while off the island means that he did not die in the "past" as michael and tom did, meaning he does not die while on the island. I think that Ben realizes this as well, which is why Locke has to come back to the island. This part is important: Whatever the losties have to do when they get back to the island, I believe it will happen in the "past", meaning that the island will be stuck in a jump in the past when everyone re-unites for the "end game" event. We know that Locke can never have died in the past since he has died in 2008. Therefore, Locke must! be alive when all of the survivors re-unite! That is why his ! body is necessary; when there is a time jump, it won't just be a body. This theory can also extend to Christian. His body was brought to the island, the island jumped to a time when he was still alive, and voila, empty coffin. I think that whatever "end game" event occurs that re-aligns the island with normal time happens during a time jump, and so has technically already happened. Even though it technically already happened, the losties in 2008 have no way of knowing this. That's why Locke had to die; the fact that Locke was able to die even though Ben thinks he is pivotal to saving the island was enough to convince Ben that, since the all important Locke must be involved in this "end game" event, it must happen in the past, before Locke's death. The ultimate end to this theory is that the survivors return and set off this end game event, which will put the island back on track, like the needle on a record. The series will then resume from the moment Ben is moved off the island.

All righty ppl, who else loved the premiere? Anyway...I think I got an interesting grasp at some future events that are about to take place, and I'm basing these on my own opinions and not spoilers which I diligently read here ;)
Anyway moving on...There is so much to take in from the premiere. As some people may have seen in another post I did (I think under another name) I speculated that Ben got kicked off the island not only because of turning the wheel, but because since the island is jumping around, unlike Richard, he would regress to his teen form and therefor not be useful to Jacob or the island's current plan. This though is just a small part of my bigger theory. Here we go. We all know that LOCKE DIES *GASP* but in all honesty, I've been thinking about how he gets off the island and dies, and how the island may be stopped from jumping in time. The answer...I think Locke has to turn the wheel.
Think about it. If Locke turns the wheel he then will take the name of Jeramy Bentham, and then will be able to visit with Jack and the rest. Locke turning the wheel will also be a likely way to turn the island time jumping off. One push on, one push off. It's a switch. The only difference is that because Locke has to "die" the idea of him never returning like Ben almost seems like its a different situation. Maybe Locke can't return...ALIVE. If he returns dead then Jacob or smokey mc smokerson can take control of Locke and use him for their purposes.
Now let's look at Widmore for a sec. He claims that the island was once his...and he's a prissy brit, so the fact that the people that Juliet and Sawyer take hold of are either Other's or Danielle's team that defected to the others. There is no way in hell at this point that it would be logical to add a fifth freaking faction to the mix (losties(front and back), others(including hostiles), dharma, freighters) that isn't part of the already established mythology (ok...maybe the people who made the monster and the statue will eventually appear, but come one...how many sides does one conflict need). If there is a fifth group at the moment, it would have to be Richard's original hostiles before the purge, or the research team. Danielle is French, but that doesn't mean the rest of her crew were. Maybe they got nutso after landing and starting thinking that the island was theirs, but in all honesty I still think Richard is pulling the strings and at this point is his people.
Richard is probably one of my fav recurring characters because he adds such a different perspective on the Others. He always seems to be doing what is in everyones interest, he seems to actually be a truthful person (Juliet and Ben apparently missed out on "How to reveal plot twist as an other truthfully 101"), and lastly he doesn't seem evil. Like really almost every character has a dark side to them but seriously...does anyone else think this guy is like WAYYY to chill? He is like the padge lama of the others and has let the likes of ben f&^@ up the island for years, but he still seems calm and genuine, always providing answer...why is that? Cause the dude I think honestly has seen the end. He is just a constant on the island. The island lives, he lives, the island dies...well maybe it just loops all over again but that's irrelevant right now. What people should be noticing though is that creepy test that alpert gave to locke actually included the compass he gave him i! n the future. I don't really know what the compass represents at the moment besides probably saving locke the hundredth bullet to the leg when he inevitably encounters Richard in the next few episodes, but the compass is def important (probably points to Jacob, or maybe the temple, or even the next place Locke is always destined to go)
Anyway I'll end on this. SMOKE MONSTER IS SO BACK SOON. We know that Danielle and her research team encountered it, its like the only thing she actually seemed to admit having any knowledge too, and since the island is jumping, and team Lindelof and Cuse both promised us the story...well what better time to tell the story then have the cast witnessing Daniel's team getting just massacred by the thing. I don't know if we will necessarily find anything new about it soon, but I know its coming, we ALL know its coming, and I'm happy because its probably the one question I actually give two SH&(^S about finding out.
Anyway be gentle with responses lol, I hope u enjoyed my ramble, please leave feedback and NAMASTE.

So, I was just watching the season 1 finale, Exodus, and got to the point where Danielle crept into the beach camp, and approached our Losties. As they all stood around, most of them bemused by the frenchwoman, she exclaimed "The Other's are coming". This got me thinking...
There have been a couple of times that Danielle has exerted some strange behaviour, such as the time when she interupted Mikhail when he was about to mention he knew Locke had been paralised, amongst other things, which makes me think she knows more than She's letting on. Also If I recall correctly, it was mentioned that the original script for Solitary had Sayid ask Danielle what exactly her science team was researching, and she exclaimed "time."
Let's say Rousseau knew more than she was letting on, let's say she met some of the Losties who have been flashing through time when she was younger, and lets say she was aware of their plight, and the dangers that they may face if they ever accidently flashed to a period of time where their past selves were still on the beach...this would be extremely dangerous, right?
Therefore I speculate that the "Others" who were coming at the end of season 1, were the future castaways that were flashing through time, and the only way that they could avoid themselves, was for Rousseau to scare them all off the beach, and into the caves so they didn't come face to face with themsleves and cause a paradox(like some sort of time-cop).
Having said that, it still doesn't explain the black smoke on the horizon, and other stuff, so it could becomplete bo**ocks.
What do you think?

The Island
Lost Island is in a time loop. This time loop was created by the original, very advanced inhabitants after they figured out when the next polar reversal would happen. The Island (or what we know as empty ocean) exists directly across the globe from the largest mass area on earth-this causes the earth to be unbalanced (the magnetic field is greater over where there is more land mass), which at variable times in the earth's history has caused a polar reversal. A polar reversal is catastrophic-only few may survive in horrible, nightmarish conditions. The ancient inhabitants knew that by making the island into a time loop, (they built the frozen donkey wheel) this would even out the electromagnetism at the part of the world that is the Island and while the Island plays out as a time loop, the rest of the world moves forward in time.
The time loop starts from when the frozen donkey wheel was built and progresses past our future time but then starts over again after a certain point (it circles in time). Ben, Richard, and most of the others are aware of this loop and remember having lived through the circle, this is why they know things. When Desmond prevented Charlie's death long enough for him to unjam the signal and ultimately leading to the Oceanic 6 to leave the time loop-this caused the way of things to change. Jacob told Locke who told Ben to move the Island and this would have just reset the Island to the beginning of the loop-but since things had been changed-the Oceanic Six left their destiny-now the Island is jumping in time. The Survivors must return in order to restore the time loop and stop the chaotic time jumping. This is a new variation of time for Ben and Richard-these are new events for them. Right now the Island is no longer keeping the electromagnetic field of the earth stable-it i! s not keeping a polar reversal from happening-and the Survivors have 70 hours to return until a polar reversal will occur and "God help
us all".

The Numbers
I got an idea for connecting the timejumps into a logic. I got thinking:
Damon and Carlton are always trying to connect all the events in a strange network of coincidences, like the books some characters read have a story that relates to the character, or the numbers in Hugo's and the rest of 815ers life... numbers???
What if the time jumps, for some strange reason (like Carlton and Damon's apetite for coincidences..), are according to the magic numbers in the Swan Hatch? (I read a theory somewhere here that the Swan could be a mechanism to balance the Island's energy, so that it wouldn't be skipping like a record if it was needed to turn the wheel... but off we go!)
Imagine this, the Island is bouncing back and forth from the Past to the Present (the numbers as years it goes back in the past). That would be a wonderful excuse for putting our losties witnessing some past events on the Island.
So let's try this:
2004-4= 2000 - Desmond is in the hatch, yemi's plane crashes (5x01)
2004-8= 1996 - Desmond gets to the Island (unseen)
2004-15= 1989 - ?? event unknown (unseen)
2004-16= 1988 - Rousseau's team arrives to the Island
2004-23= 1981 - the Purge happens, and Widmore starts trying to find the Island (remember Miles saying that "[Widmore]has been searching for the Island for more than 20ys")
2004-42= 1962 - There are some military pre-Dharma in the Island whose purpose is still unknown (5x02)
2004-108= 1896 - Wow, that would be awesome... Maybe finding some people from the Black Rock?
That would explain why Juliet is flashing with our Losties, not with Richard's group. Because the only people who timeskip would be the ones who were not on the Island on the nearest iteration possible, year 2000.
Guess we'll only see if this is right on the rest of the season, but hey, still want your comments on this!

Because You Left,
The Lie
Well what do you know? This season's premiere was once again a total success. I really enjoyed it. I have also read many many many theories since i first joined this site 2 years ago and many of them have really made their points as almost valid!
Call me pessimistic but i stand to what i have always said form the beggining: This show, all the action, fantasy, drama and story is a way of the producers (who i admire the most cause you have to be a genius to create a show of that magnitude) telling us that all of their work won't matter until we have learned to value and always try to make our lifes better. To be better people.
Is the world coming to an end? Well in the show this is hinted many times but unless the survivors (and by extension us, the audience) learn to live our lifes as best as we can, the end will definately come.
I seriously believe that if the producers are going to present to us a decent ending of the series, they will have to surprise even themselves. I know that as you will read the next lines you are definately going to rate my "theory" with just one star lol but listen to me when i say that lost is not just another stupid we see on tv.
To me the series may end as following
1) The entire cast are actual actors who play in a show. The irony would fit perfectly to a show that has so many mysteries yet to be solved.
2) This is a story in a loop. Since you can't change the past Jack will always open his eyes and head straight for the burning wreckage of the plane crash, exaclty as he does in the pilot.
3) No explanation is given. A mysterious ending should fit a show that it has been mysterious from its very beggining.
4) This is a true story that has actually happened and we will get to meet the actual survivors of the plane crash through interviews after the show ends.
LOL I know, go ahead and crucify me, give me my one star i deserve it lol! But mark my words when i tell you this yet again: The show has the sole purpose of making the audience from tv-alcholics to better people. This show is too great (and crazy) to finish with a common surprise ending just like many other shows.

Widmore
Ben asked this simple question and Widemore gave a good answer. However, Ben failed to ask the important follow-up; "When did the nightmares start?" My theory? Widemore's nightmares started when Ben turned the wheel.
Widemore now is having memories of the "bad things" that will be happening on the island (I believe that the truly "bad things" Locke spoke of haven't yet begun). I believe that Widemore was on the island in the past with his group of people (maybe the ones who wanted to cut off Julie's arm) and they are about to become tangled up in a giant mess of death and destruction due to the time skipping stuff. However, unlike Desmond, Widemore isn't special (or special enough) to know that these are actually new memories and not nightmares.
You're probably wondering why Widemore wouldn't remember these memories earlier on but for that answer I will give a bit of analysis from the following awesome website:
http://lost-and-gone-forever.blogspot.com/2009/01/because-you-left-and-lie-two-for-one.html
"So – 2004 Ethan wouldn’t recognize Locke because he doesn’t shoot him until after Locke starts skipping in 2005. Perhaps, 2005 Ethan would suddenly have a memory of Locke from pre-2004 (if he were still alive) – but he didn’t start having that memory until that moment… just like Desmond didn’t have a memory of talking to Faraday (pre-2004) until after Faraday started skipping in 2005."
Does that make sense? It made sense to me (or at least as much sense as anything can after the premier) and I think it would clear up a lot of "loop-holes".
So anyway, I'll wrap this up before I keep going on and on and I'll get to my point.
Widemore is having new memories of the "current" events of our on-island losties and everything that's happening. But he thinks they are nightmares. I think eventually he'll figure out that they are memories (with the help of maybe Abbadon or Ms Hawking) and maybe, just maybe, he'll actually put aside his petty feud with Ben and actually help save the island. Yeah, the last bit is pretty far fetched but I definitely think the nightmares are actually new memories.

So, this is the first time I've ever tried to post anything but I figured I would give this a try. I believe that Sawyer will end up being Jacob.
For the last several seasons, including this season's premiere, we've seen at least two scenes in which Sawyer gets something in his foot, (ie: dart). What if this is foreshadowing that at one point, Sawyer loses a toe. Since he is currently time flipping to and fro in the present and the past, if he arrives to a time where just the original inhabitants are on the island, they could look upon Sawyer as a god. This could then explain the four-toed statue that was erected on the island. Sawyer would then become the island's god, which could easily be thought of as Jacob.
Of course, this is one of the only pieces of evidence that I have. But think about this, for almost every season, Sawyer has tried to get off of the island and has been stopped every time. Season 1: Walt was kidnapped and Sawyer was shot. Season 4: He sacrificed his escape so so the helicopter wouldn't crash.
Sawyer is also one of the only ones who knew Christian Shepard, having met him at the bar. Whenever Jacob needed Jack to do something, he could have sent Christian Shepard to Jack. He also knew that Kate is not Aaron's mother. Also, if you thought that about any initiation tests that needed to be past by the island, remember that Sawyer was the real one who killed Locke's father. Sawyer really passed the test, not Locke.
My theory is that Sawyer is Jacob and that Jacob is desperately trying to escape. The best man for that job is Locke. That's why Richard Alpert was trying to recruit Locke in the past when Locke was a boy. Sawyer told him to. It also means why the island is trying to get the 06 back. Sawyer is trying to change the past by getting the 06 to have never left the island.
So, that's my theory, it's my first. I just think it's interesting.
