Here's a thought...
Jacob, like "Nemesis," has the ability to take the shape of dead people. Jacob is actually inhabiting the body of Nemesis, rendering Nemesis formless. He is the black smoke monster. This is why he wants to kill Jacob so badly, because Jacob stole his identity. (The name "Jacob" does mean "supplanter" after all). The Man in Black at the beginning of The Incident is simply Nemesis taking the shape of a corpse. Perhaps he killed this person and assumed their form in order to have the conversation with Jacob. This could be what he meant by "I just ate."
As for his identity...
Nemesis is a grown up Aaron from the future, perhaps the result of not being raised by Claire. This is why Jacob now looks like a grown up Aaron (blonde, blue eyes). It also explains how, as "Christian Shephard," he was able to hold baby Aaron (himself), but not touch anyone else (like Locke), at least until he found his loophole. As Christian, he made sure that Claire was separated from Aaron, forcing him to be raised by another and thus becoming an evil nemesis that Richard Malkin foresaw and tried to prevent...
There must be a good reason why Nemesis' name was not revealed to us in The Incident, probably due to the fact that it's a character we already know. It beats a having a brand new character introduced at the very end of the series. And it also explains the apparent importance of Aaron. But then the question is, what was Jacob's original form? Was Jacob a formless entity to begin with?

I like it. I also wonder why he is left nameless. Two reasons:
1. He is someone we know
2. He doesn't exist
I mean when you think about two..none ever mentioned the existence of someone else existing on the island..someone who is very very important. And it reminded me of Fight Club, badly. I hope they don't take that road..but then he has to be someone we know.
When I first started reading this, I thought it was going to be stupid, but by the end, I really liked it! And, Monika, I really want to hear what you sound like. Obi Van! AHahahaaha, that's great.
It made me think of the producers saying "we had already saw Jacob".
They ment the identity of "Jacob" (wich at the time we thought is "Jacob") from the cabin back in season 3,NOT the Jacob from the beach.
I like this theory.
Good theory.....errclaw....calm down with the Monika kick dude, your a couple of steps away from stalker creepy. If you want her e-mail so bad ask her...till then ,bro....let's keep the theories in the theories room and the come on's for VH1 dating shows, please.
I'll admit this would be a huge slap in the face twist that I would rather like, but I simultaneously think this is kinda contrived too so I'm torn but I gave you five stars!!
Oooooh, cool idea! I like it.
no, the Hebrew name Jacob means "one who wrestles with God", which he actually did. See Genesis.
So he wants his body back, body back, body back - he wants his body back, body back, body back --- Ja COB! stole that dudes body, Jacob stole that dudes body
"Jacob, like "Nemesis," has the ability to take the shape of dead people. Jacob is actually inhabiting the body of Nemesis, rendering Nemesis formless."
so when they're sitting on the beach, it's a guy named jacob, talking to a formless expression of jacob after he inhabitated the body of the dark haired guy?
i have no idea what you're talking about.
I agree with March about who's talking to Jacob on the beach. But I had to laugh at what MIB ate! Hey they could be a title of an episode,"What MIB Ate". That's how he is able to become someone who is dead.....Gross! I hope they don't go there. In fact I will be really disappointed if they spend much time on MIB and/or Jacob inhabiting other bodies.
I like this idea in a way, but I'm curious as to why Nemesis/MIB would kick his own body into the fire? If Jacob stole his body, once he's stabbed and bled out why not just jump back in the body?
Or were you thinking once Jacob is dead and burned Nemesis/MIB would shape-shift back into his true form? Or is that not possible anymore once it has been stolen, so Nemesis just wanted to kill him as revenge and live out his days as the image of Locke?
I think this idea is somewhat relevant only because I think in s6 we will see Nemesis/MIB take the form of many characters including Jacob (Mark Pelligrino). I think one of the reasons he wanted Jacob dead is he can now use Jacob's image to fool anyone who knows what Jacob looks like. This may mean the people at the Temple, unless they have a way of knowing the difference between Jacob and Nemesis/MIB. Ben was fooled pretty easy though so I don't see why the others can't be fooled as long as Nemesis/MIB gets to the Temple before the word that Jacob is dead does. This shouldn't be too hard since he is a spirit he should be able to teleport to the Temple instantly.
@John
False, good sir. "Jacob" means "supplanter" or "he who supplants." As the story goes: "Afterward his brother came out withhis hand holding Esau’s heel, so his name was called Jacob" (Genesis 25:26). In the same chapter, you see that prophecy come to fruition when Jacob steals Esau's birthright.
You're thinking of when Jacob wrestled with the man/angel/theophany of God in 32:28, and is re-named "Israel" based upon this experience.
