Pilot episode's opening scene was actually Jack coming back to the island and that the point where Jack pivots around on the beach and sees/hears nothing, turns back around and sees/hears the crash site is the transition back to the present. Far fetched? Maybe. Possible? Sure, why not. – Forensic007
Here is further proof that when Jack woke up in the jungle he was really returning to the Island. I will be drawing similarities between Jack “landing” in the jungle and Ben “landing” in Tunisia.
Jack in the jungle + Ben in Tunisia
Both come to, lying on their backs

Jack:
After having helped the survivors of the plane crash he retreats into the jungle to tend to his wound: a deep gash on his left side
Ben:
Has a gash on his upper right arm.

Jack asks Kate to give him a hand and stitch him up.
Ben, using a scarf from the Bedouins he just killed, uses it as a tourniquet to still the flow of blood from his arm.
We all realized that when Ben landed in Tunisia he was time traveling. Many comments were made as to what could possibly have slashed through Ben’s arm. Was it the claws of a polar bear? A struggle with Halliwax?
Is the wound on Jack’s side also a claw mark similar to Ben’s wound? I presumed that Jack hurt himself in the plane crash. Did he really? Or did he also time travel the same way that Ben did?
In TTLG, Jack tells Kate that they have to “to go back”. They do go back! By time traveling they end up exactly where they started from...at the beginning, at the scene of the plane crash.
It’s not just Jack and Kate that “go back” but all the Oceanic 6 that return !!!
Say what…..
Here’s my explanation :
Jack appears alone in the jungle away from the plane crash.
Kate appears walking through the jungle, also away from the crash site. She comes upon Jack, who has already performed his doctorly duties at the crash site. They don’t seem too surprised to see each other.
Jin is looking for Sun, she is nowhere to be found at the crash site.

Sayid appears much later. As Jack and Kate return to the crash site we see Sayid and Sawyer fighting each other.
Sayid and Sawyer are eventually pulled apart.
Hurley is seen at the crash site, standing alone and utterly bewildered by his surroundings.
As if he came out of no where.
Doesn't Hurley's face resemble that of Ben's right after Ben stepped out of the hidden room used to summon the smoke monster to attack Keamy and his gang?

I had trouble figuring out how Aaron arrived. What we see is a pregnant Claire doubled over and in tremendous pain. Did Aaron travel back into his mother’s uterus? Or was it rather like Desmond whose consciousness traveled back in time. Finding himself in his own body but at another time and place. Aaron found himself in his own body but not yet born.
None of the Oceanic 6 were present at the crash site. Maybe the time travelling technique can't drop exactly where you wish to appear but instead lands you in the outskirts of the time frame that you wish to enter.
They all stepped into their roles once they landed safely from the past or is it once they landed safely from the future.

Ya but we don't know that Ben time traveled at all... we know Ben traveled through space, but time travel has yet to be proven. But if Ben did Time travel he remembered everything, why wouldn't the O6 remember everything, which they didn't in the pilot episode. I really like the idea that Jack woke up on the island traveling back to it, and then after that everything has been flashback, even the flashforwards are still flashbacks
I like that idea too but I have the same question: why can't they remember anything? Ben seemed to know every event before it happened, except from Alex's death.
Maybe Ben traveled to the future and he has the memories to what happened before, or maybe just traveled through space. Since the theory is that they went to the past, they don't remember what they haven't lived.
And I thought about something for Aaron. He wasn't moving. Claire only feels him move later on in the Pilot.
does anyone here remember when desmond was travelling through time? he couldn't remember sayid's name until the very end of the episode, when penelope became his constant. widmore is ben's constant; come on people!
also, i've rewatched that episode a number of times...maybe the flashbacks are showing how they all lost their constants and are trying to relive this experience to do something better than they did the first time. they just can't remember everything at the beginning.
and kate is so creepy in the pilot episode that for awhile i was thinking she was s hostile in disguise.
This is a really good theory and something I've been pondering as well.
What I'm wondering is if they go in and out of being aware that they have traveled back. For instance we see that Jack seems to know exactly where to go and what to do at the crash site but then he asks Kate what her name is....Maybe his consciousness is going in and out of that particular time period much like Desmond did.
Then Jack mysteriously disappears after the smoke monster attacks the pilot so there we could have future Jack consciousness and then we see him unsure of things again (so now we have past/just after the crash Jack).
We could play this same scenerio with the other 06 as well.
So now the next question is, if this theory is correct, is there a special camera trick that is used to give us a clue as to when we are seeing future Jack consciousness and when we see past/just after the crash Jack consciousness?
Maybe the special little camera spin (like what we saw just after Jack rushed onto the beach).
Then again, maybe only the actions/words of the characters are an indication.
Then, yet again, I could be totally wrong.
it's probably related to which eye the camera starts on; left or right.
I think you're looking into the 'wound' Ben and Jack share thing too much...It's very likely Jack got his during the plane crash, besides, if he was un-harmed there would have been years of 'why wasn't Jack injured in the crash?!?!' theories...so its natural they wanted to make it look more realistic...
Whereas Ben is more than likely gonna get his injury during a scuffle with Keamy and his men at the Orchid before he 'leaps'...
The waking up on their back's thing could be a constant theme in LOST...its generally to do with unconsciousness though (Desmond and the pool cue, Locke after the failsafe etc)
march said "does anyone here remember when desmond was travelling through time? he couldn't remember sayid's name until the very end of the episode, when penelope became his constant."
that was desmond's 1996 consciousness travelling to teh freighter in 2004. so, naturally, he wouldn't know sayid until his 2004 consciousness was restored.
this theory speculates that 2007 (or some other future date; using 2007 as an example) jack travels back to 2004. so, naturally, 2007 jack would KNOW the island in 2004 having already experienced it, and remember the island events and recall all the people.
i'm not too sure you didn't make my point for me, wickedslip. desmond is different than jack and i think that's very evident. the electromagnetic exposure has different types of effects on different people.
This is very interesting theory and has revealed many things I never noticed before, however what is the purpose of them travelling in time and going BACK to the Island? If they weren't going to have any memories of it, why would they want to experience it again?
